Chapter 1

Seven months pregnant, I was stabbed in the abdomen while trying to save my husband, Donavan.

That accident not only cost me my child but also left me unable to conceive due to excessive blood loss.

Donavan wept uncontrollably, vowing to treat me well for the rest of his life and never leave my side.

When faced with the women his mother-in-law tried to push on him, Donavan kicked them all out and immediately had a vasectomy.

He said he could live without children, but he would never betray me.

Everyone in New York City said I had a husband who doted on me to the bone and cherished me like his own life.

Two years later, I caught Donavan having car sex with my pregnant stepsister.

"Brother-in-law, our son is about to be born. When are you going to divorce my sister and marry me?"

Donavan's expression turned cold:

"Seraphina is my only wife. Know your place. Just focus on giving birth to the child. If Seraphina finds out, I won't spare you."

My stepsister pouted, her movements becoming more seductive. Donavan, overcome with desire, pinned her down beneath him. "Little temptress, if you please me well, I will reward you with a few more after you give birth to this one."

So the so-called eternal loyalty and that surgery were nothing but lies to deceive me.

Feeling utterly disheartened, I called the Gevano Family, the wealthiest in Los Angeles:

"I'm willing to marry the deceased young master of Los Angeles. Please help me leave Donavan."

In the video sent by my stepsister Britta, the car was filled to the brim with contraceptives and various adult toys.

And Donavan's expression was one of intoxication and madness I had never seen before.

Britta sent a few more messages.

"How's that, my dear sister? Enjoying the show?"

"I heard this car was supposed to be Donavan's gift to you, but he insisted on test driving it with me first. He wanted to leave traces of our lovemaking in every corner of the car, saying it would be more thrilling that way."

"You didn't actually believe Donavan had a vasectomy, did you? That's hilarious. Someone of his status, how could he not want an heir?" "Not even a game to fool you, you idiot. Donavan said you're nothing but a hen that can't lay eggs, and you're stiff and boring in bed. I can not only give him a bunch of sons, but also make him feel like he's in heaven and earth."

"You're just as useless as your mom. She couldn't keep your dad back then, and don't think you can keep Donavan, you good-for-nothing."

I opened the last two pictures at the bottom.

One was a paternity test.

And in the other, Britta was having a prenatal checkup, with Donavan tenderly kissing her pregnant belly.

I covered my mouth, tears spilling through my fingers.

The husband who swore he'd never betray me had really cheated.

Even the so-called vasectomy was nothing but a scam.

Donavan finally came home, and seeing my swollen eyes, he quickly pulled me into his arms.

"Seraphina, did I come home too late? Are you upset? I'm sorry, there was a last-minute meeting at the office. I promise I'll come home earlier to be with you from now on."

The scent of lust hadn't completely faded from his body.

I never knew before that Donavan was so good at lying.

"No, it's just that tomorrow is Blossom's death anniversary, and I'm feeling a bit down." "Darling Seraphina, I miss Blossom too. Let's visit his grave together tomorrow. Don't be sad, sweetheart. I've got a surprise for you."

Donavan led me to the front door where a brand-new sports car was parked outside, painted in my favorite shade of royal blue.

"Seraphina, do you like it? I placed the order a year ago. It's the only one in the country, and I drove it straight here as soon as I picked it up, just for you."

Remembering that he had just spent two wild hours with Britta in this very car, a wave of nausea washed over me.

"I rarely drive. It seems so wasteful."

"I don't care about that. As long as my darling likes it, I'd happily spend every penny I have. Come on, let me take you for a spin."

Donavan swung the car door open with a flourish.
