Chapter 4

Nolan has always been impatient, and he's been fussing over my hearing for years. Now that I can hear, he can't wait to tell the whole world.

A few close girlfriends from the neighborhood have come over.

The backyard is decorated exquisitely and lavishly, and even the food is being prepared by a Michelin-starred chef who was brought in for the occasion.

"Mr. Langdon truly loves our Mrs. Langdon. Who wouldn't be envious?"

"Absolutely! Our Mrs. Langdon is so blessed!"

Most people in our social circle know how to read the room, and they keep complimenting Nolan.

Nolan smiles, pulls me close, and plants a kiss on my cheek, his joy evident.

"Scarlett is the love of my life. She's the only one I'll ever love! I..."

Nolan's words trail off abruptly in my ear. He's spotted Vivienne too.

Vivienne approaches me, her pregnant belly leading the way.

"Long time no see, Scarlett."

Her fair, delicate hand extends towards me, but before I can react, Nolan steps in front of me.
