"The city is... empty."
The once bustling and lively Hongdae was completely empty and gloomy, with moss covering the concrete roads and buildings, and vines hanging down the walls.
It was almost like an apocalypse scene; the only thing missing were zombies.
Though there were monsters.
Si-Woo pulled his sword out from the goblin flesh, eyes looking around the area with a serious expression.
"Damn, there are more dead bodies than living ones." He kicked the goblin corpse away without a care before approaching In-Su, who was staring at the corpses of what seemed to be a mother and daughter, hugging each other tightly. A dagger was in the mother's back while another was in the daughter's forehead.
"...Yeah. Not everyone knows how to survive in this situation." In-Su relaxed his clenched fists as he looked at Si-Woo over his shoulder. "C'mon, we need to see if there's any food."
"And new clothes." Si-Woo pulled on his shirt with a grimace, blood and sweat covering his skin.
"We can't go into a mall." In-Su walked toward one of the clothing shops, peeking inside. He saw the mess inside, but there was no one. Raising his arm, In-Su broke the glass door with his elbow before reaching inside and unlocking the door.
"If this world is like a video game, then large places like schools or malls are prone to be dungeons." Stepping to the side, In-Su let Si-Woo enter the shop first.
"As expected from a gamer." Si-Woo entered the shop holding his sword in front of him, eyes looking around the shop to see if there were any potential enemies.
"Shut up." Rolling his eyes, In-Su followed the other male when the situation was clear and safe.
Both males headed toward the clothing racks, grabbing the clothes they wanted. In-Su didn't bother using the changing room; he unbuttoned his shirt and tossed it to the side.
Now wearing a slim-fit black turtleneck sweater that showed his body curves, In-Su nodded in satisfaction. The clothes were easy to move around in and provided the warmth he needed.
"Hey, catch." In-Su turned around to catch the coat that Si-Woo threw at him, making him look at his friend confusedly.
"Seriously? Isn't this a bit too much?"
"Hey, fashion is important. Imagine we walk down the street, we need the drama and the coat blowing behind us."
In-Su just chuckled at Si-Woo's words before wearing the long dark coat he gave him. Not going to lie, wearing this made him feel mysterious and more like the main character.
"White coat?" In-Su looked at Si-Woo's appearance. Brown button-up shirt and white coat. A bit of a weird choice since he is the fighter, to think he would wear something that can get dirty quickly.
"We're the opposite. You wear black, and I wear white." Si-Woo pointed his finger at his friend with a teasing grin.
"Like Kim-"
"Okay, stop. We don't need the copyright."
"We're Korean, there are like a hundred people named Kim."
The two left the shop and decided to go to a convenience store to find some food. In-Su looked around his status window, trying to see if there was anything useful for them to use.
"Hm... oh, here it is." In-Su found what he was looking for. Pressing the bag icon, he saw that he indeed had storage.
[Traads Slime (x20)]
'Seems like goblins didn't drop anything other than exp.' He closed the window before looking at Si-Woo. "We have storage, meaning we can put the food inside it. The limit is 100."
"Wait, seriously?" Si-Woo quickly brought out his status window, his eyes flickering to the bag icon, and he pressed it.
[Traads Slime (x40), Goblin Daggers (x10), Hobgoblin Bracelet (x1)]
"Hobgoblin bracelet?" Si-Woo pressed on the item and a bead bracelet appeared in front of him.
[Hobgoblin Bracelet: raises strength by +12 and defense by +9.]
"Sweet! An item." Si-Woo slid the bracelet onto his wrist, fist clenching slightly as he felt his body become stronger.
"Must be lucky." In-Su didn't bother to hide the jealousy in his voice, shoving his hands inside his coat pocket.
But Si-Woo didn't seem bothered by it. Instead, he just grinned proudly as he showed In-Su the bracelet. "Chill. If we find another item, I'll give it to you."
"You better."
Arriving at the convenience store, Si-Woo saw that the store was a mess. The glass door was broken, shelves had fallen to the floor, and items were scattered everywhere.
"I guess there were some lucky survivors." In-Su looked around the store, frowning at the items scattered on the floor.
"Ugh, there's no food left." Si-Woo grabbed two soda cans from the floor before giving one to In-Su.
"Not even canned food?" In-Su cracked the can open before taking a sip of the drink.
"If you want canned food, we need to go to a mall or raid a food factory."
In-Su and Si-Woo walked out of the store with empty hands and empty stomachs, at least they had drinks.
"So, where are we going next?" Si-Woo asked.
"I don't know yet... we need to find a safe place." In-Su threw the can away after finishing the drink.
"What safe place can we find in this kind of area?" Si-Woo sighed as he pointed at their surroundings, knowing well that finding a safe place in this whole new world was like finding a needle in a haystack. Not impossible, but it would take a really long time.
Si-Woo stopped walking when he noticed that In-Su was not at his side. Turning around, he saw the brown-haired male standing and staring at the empty air. "In-Su?" He walked toward the male and tried to see what he was staring at. His blue eyes widened in fear when he saw it.
[Warning! Warning!]
[Apocalypse Level Monster Appear!]
[Ancient Dragon (LvL 1,0000) Is Roaming The Area!]
"Rooooarrr!!!"
Flying across the red sky was a huge dragon that could easily cover the whole city with its body. The roar of the monster was enough to make the whole ground shake. The wave of its wings flapping was strong enough to almost lift them off the ground if not for Si-Woo stabbing his sword into the ground as an anchor, his arm wrapped around In-Su's waist.
"What the fuck is that...?" Si-Woo's face turned pale as he felt his body shaking in fear. No matter how strong he was, there was no way he could fight a dragon the size of Jeju Island and at LvL 1,0000.
"Si-Woo... Si-Woo! We need to hid-" Both males froze when they felt the dragon's eyes on them. They slowly looked up to see the dragon hovering above them, staring straight at the two.
Si-Woo's grip on his sword tightened as his breath quickened, body trembling in fear, his instinct screaming for him to do something.
"A-aaah!" Si-Woo suddenly jumped to his feet, shaking fingers gripping his sword as he prepared to attack the dragon when suddenly something flew past them.
A skeleton that resembled a large bird coated in black fire caught the dragon's attention. It let out another roar before chasing after the weird fire skeleton.
[Ancient Dragon (LvL 1,0000) Is Leaving The Area!]
In-Su and Si-Woo let out shaky breaths as they fell to the ground, unable to believe what had just happened.
They had almost died.
"Seriously. You two almost died."
Both males quickly turned around when they heard a girl's voice behind them.
Standing not far from them was a dark-skinned girl with short ginger hair and dark eyes that resembled a cat.
"...A kid?" In-Su looked confused at the sight of the young kid dressed in bright colors, something completely opposite of the apocalyptic world.
Bright yellow crop jacket, orange turtleneck sweater, dark brown trouser shorts, bright yellow knee socks, and bright purple sneakers.
Too many colors in one outfit. It was almost like she didn't want to choose one color and slapped everything on.
"Hello? Is that all you can say after I saved your lives?" The girl looked at In-Su and Si-Woo with an annoyed expression. Based on her accent, it was clear that the girl was foreign.
"Save... you mean that skeleton is yours?" Si-Woo sheathed his sword away after he finally calmed down.
"Yup." From behind the girl, a goblin skeleton wearing human child clothes appeared. Black fire emanated from its body, but it didn't burn the clothes. The skeleton was the same height as the girl, at 4'1", both of them were shorter than the two males.
Si-Woo quickly stood in front of In-Su at the sight of the monster, but when he saw the skeleton quickly hide back behind the girl nervously, he lowered his weapon.
"...What is your role?" Si-Woo asked.
"What's yours, old man?"
Si-Woo looked completely offended being called an old man when he was only 22 years old. In-Su was the older one here.
"You little-" In-Su's fist hit the back of Si-Woo's head before he could curse in front of a child. Stepping forward, he smiled softly at the girl and introduced himself. "My name is In-Su, and I'm a healer. This is my friend, Si-Woo, and he is a Paladin."
"In-Su!"
Si-Woo looked at his friend with a disbelief expression, not believing that he had just revealed their roles to someone they had just met. But when In-Su gave him the look.
'Leave it all to me.'
Si-Woo took a step back and let In-Su do the talking. The male had his own plan, Si-Woo noticed. He then remembered about the synergy. If this kid could control that skeleton, she might have a dark role.
"...Paladin?" The girl looked at Si-Woo with a disgusted expression, making the older male suddenly feel irked by being looked down upon by a literal kid.
The girl sighed before she held out her hand toward In-Su. The skeleton goblin shyly peeked from behind the girl. "My name is Alya, and this is Skelly. He's my friend. I'm a Necromancer." She introduced herself; the skeleton goblin waved his skeletal fingers like a shy child.
"Necromancer?!" The two males looked at Alya with wide eyes. In-Su at least thought she was a dark magician or something.
To think that the kid who looked like she barely even ten said, "I'm twelve." Alya suddenly spoke as if she could read their minds.
"That doesn't make it better."
"Damnit... even a child has a better role than me..." In-Su muttered.
"You're a healer, right?" Alya walked closer to In-Su and showed him her bleeding palm, blood dripping from the cut wound.
"What happened?" In-Su quickly knelt down in front of the girl, gently taking her hand into his.
"I tried to touch the gate." Alya watched In-Su heal her wound.
"Gate?"
In the background, Si-Woo and Skelly stared at each other in disdain, the clash between holy power and dark power.
"Yeah, the gate separates this city from the village." Alya pointed up, making In-Su follow her finger.
[Safe Zone locked. Find The Boss Area To Unlock The Bridge]
Is what In-Su saw on the dark red sky. "...Safe zone?" Alya nodded her head. "Yeah, there's a whole other island across that bridge." In-Su furrowed his eyebrows before looking over at what Alya pointed to next, and his eyes widened in shock.
"Si-Woo." In-Su slowly stood up as he continued to stare at what he saw.
"Hm?" Si-Woo looked at In-Su, missing the way Skelly was giving him the middle finger.
"What are you looking at?" Si-Woo walked toward his friend, looking at what he was staring at. "...What the..." Si-Woo's eyes widened when he saw it.
A large bridge loomed in the distance. It wasn't a modern bridge like he always saw but a bridge made from large and small bones.
"What the fu- I mean, what is that?" Si-Woo quickly stopped himself from cursing in front of Alya.
"A bridge that leads to the village. It's a safe zone where no monsters can enter," Alya explained.
"So in game terms..." In-Su crossed his arms over his chest, "That village is a starter safe zone. We're still in the tutorial."
"Or in other terms, the save point," Alya added.
"Alya." In-Su looked down at the girl before he held his hand toward her. "I know we just met, but we want you to join our tea-"
"Yeah, sure." Alya shrugged her shoulders as she casually accepted In-Su's offer.
"So fast! And without hesitation too..." In-Su sweatdropped.
"I didn't save you for nothing." Alya put her arms behind her head as she grinned at the older male. "Having a healer on the team is important no matter how strong you are. You don't seem like a bad guy; I've got a good instinct."
"Alya..." In-Su looked at the girl with teary eyes, finally someone who appreciated a healer.
"Also, you can always punch someone to heal!" Alya smirked darkly as she punched the empty air. "I mean, you literally choose who lives or dies. And I can use the corpses to create my undead soldiers."
In-Su stared at the girl before matching her smirk. "You're a smart girl. We have Si-Woo who can deal with big enemies... imagine the undead soldiers we can make."
"Hehehehehe...."
Si-Woo and Skelly watched the two giggle creepily, dark aura surrounding them.
"...So, can you poop?" Si-Woo looked down at the skeleton goblin who shook his head.
