The Beta’s Hidden Treasure

Back to the Game

I slipped my headset back on and launched TWO again.

The familiar black screen appeared, followed by a brief moment of weightlessness.

Then—

I opened my eyes and found myself back in the inn.

Just like before.

The wooden ceiling. The dim lantern. The slightly stiff mattress.

It was like I had never left.

I sat up, stretched, and checked my status window.

> [HP: 100/100]

[Stamina: 100/100] (Fatigue: None)

Everything was completely restored.

I clenched my fists.

"Yeah… this beta version is definitely something else."

But enough of that—I had a town to explore.

---

Leaving the Inn

I grabbed my rusty dagger, adjusted my basic gear, and headed downstairs.

Alex, the innkeeper, was still behind the counter, wiping down a wooden mug.

He looked up and grinned. "Heading out already?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Need to stock up on some gear."

Alex chuckled. "Then you should check out Old Man Garrick's shop. He's got everything a newbie needs."

"…Good to know."

I waved and stepped outside.

The town of Lioran was just waking up—villagers setting up market stalls, adventurers passing by in light armor, and a few NPC kids running around.

It felt so alive.

But I wasn't here to sightsee.

I needed items.

More specifically, I needed to see if this beta version had anything special hidden inside the game.

---

Finding the Merchant

The town's general shop was a small wooden building with a faded sign that read:

> [Garrick's Goods – Quality Supplies for Adventurers!]

I pushed the door open, and an old man with a thick gray beard looked up from behind the counter.

> [Garrick – Merchant]

He raised an eyebrow. "A new face, huh? You here to buy?"

I nodded. "Yeah. What do you have in stock?"

A glowing shop window popped up in front of me.

---

[Garrick's Shop]

Weapons:

Iron Dagger – 20 CP

Beginner Sword – 30 CP

Training Staff – 25 CP

Armor:

Basic Leather Armor – 50 CP

Traveler's Cloak – 15 CP

Items:

Small Health Potion – 5 CP

Stamina Recovery Herb – 3 CP

Mystery Item ??? – 10 CP (???)

---

Wait.

What was that?

I narrowed my eyes at the last item.

[Mystery Item ???]

It didn't have a description. No stats. No information.

But in every game I'd played, "???" usually meant something rare—or something broken.

I smirked.

"Jackpot."

---

Buying the Strange Item

I tapped on the item and checked the details.

> [Mystery Item ???] – 10 CP

Description: (??? – Beta Item?)

I didn't hesitate.

"Hey, old man. I'll take this."

Garrick raised an eyebrow. "That thing? Hah! I don't even know what it does."

Even better.

I tossed 10 CP onto the counter.

The old merchant shrugged. "Your money, your problem." He slid a small, black gemstone into my hand.

It wasn't heavy. It didn't glow. It didn't even look special.

But my status window had glitched when I touched it.

I took a deep breath and focused on the item, pulling up its details.

> [Mystery Item ???]

Type: Consumable

Effect: EXP Boost (+50% EXP gain for 1 hour)

Description: A rare beta item that enhances experience gain.

I froze.

"…Wait. This is an EXP buff?"

My eyes widened.

+50% EXP? That meant if I farmed slimes, instead of 2 EXP per kill, I'd get 3 EXP.

That wasn't huge, but in the long run? It could save me hours of grinding.

I grinned. "Okay, this is actually amazing."
