The New House

December 6, 1917

The lady that was sharing her home with the Petersons was kinda rich. She had a nice car and a big house. "Wow, look how big this house is, mom!"

"Yes Henry, it's like a hotel!" Even though they were in shock it was good for them to know that they had a nice place to stay. Then the lady that was driving the car said, "I forgot to ask, what are your names?"

"Well I am Lesa Peterson, this is my husband Bill Peterson and this is our son Henry Peterson."

"Who's the other guy?"

"I am Larry Peterson. What's your name?"

"I am Matilda Harper, I don't live with anyone else. Anyway, follow me. I'll show you where you're staying for the night." They got out of the car and walked up a staircase and through a hallway. They reached a big room that had 1 bed and 1 bunk bed. "I call the top bunk!" Henry screamed. "I guess that means I got the bottom bunk," said Larry. "That means Bill and I get the bed."

"You guys get settled." exclaimed Matilda. At 5:30 PM Matilda called them down for supper. They were having turkey and potatoes.

"This food is amazing. I only get meals like this on Thanksgiving!"

"Well thank you Henry. I will take that as a compliment." All of a sudden there was a knock on the door and the sound of crying.

"Hey Dad, I heard a noise coming from outside."

"Ok Henry, I will go see what's outside the door." Bill opened the door and saw a girl around the age of five standing outside. He picked her up and placed her inside the house and asked, "Where are your parents and what is your name?" Then the little girl said, "My name is Mary. There was a big noise and when I woke up I couldn't find my parents so I knocked on this door for help."

"Ok. Hey Larry come to the door for a second!"

"What's wrong and why is there a little girl in the house?"

"She lost her parents. Can you come outside to help me look for them?"

"Okay."

"Hey dad, where are you and Uncle Larry going?"

"Larry and I are going to look for some people outside."

"When will you get back?"

"Probably at midnight and hopefully with some people to help."

"Ok."

We were having supper and then a five year old knocked on the door. My dad went to the door to see what was happening. He opened the door and brought her inside. The five year old said that she lost her parents so my dad and uncle went out to look for them. I am signing off now. Henry

For the rest of the night Bill and Larry looked for people to help. Henry, Lesa and Matilda played Go Fish. Mary slept with Matilda that night.
