Bo Yu's fingers tapped out sharp clicks on the tactical holographic screen, the blue light reflecting the rigid tension in his jawline.
The layout of the laboratory slowly rotated in the air, the intersecting infrared alarm lines resembling a poisonous spider's web, with Tang Yao's coordinates pulsating at the center of the web.
"Energy wave peak detected on the seventh underground floor," came the encrypted signal from the undercover agent Sima, crackling through Bo Yu's earpiece. "But Ouyang old fox has placed a particle disruptor on the fifth floor…"
"Then we'll take the drainage pipes," Bo Yu interrupted, his wolf claw slashing open a hidden passage marker. Sparks flew from the metal wall as his claws scraped across it. "Murong is adept at ground combat, but within the water circulation system—" He glanced toward Dr. Shangguan, who was preparing an antidote, his white coat still stained with the purple crystals from their earlier breakthrough through the toxic fog zone.
Duanmu, the reporter, suddenly twisted the tripod of her camera into a climbing hook. "I bet there's a spare diving suit in the warehouse on the third floor. Last week, the drone spotted condensation marks on the transport crates."
The group froze for a moment, but Bo Yu chuckled softly.
He pulled open his collar to reveal the burning red marks at the back of his neck, his werewolf bloodline allowing his retina to reveal the labyrinthine underground piping system in a ghostly blue hue. "In fifteen minutes, the storm system activates. The water flow will wash away 80% of our scent signals." As the first drop of artificial rain splashed on the bulletproof glass ceiling, Bo Yu's back muscles tensed like a bowstring drawn taut.
The laser grid flickered to life at the far end of the corridor, and Bo Yu smelled the acrid scent of ozone burning.
Thirty-six scarlet light blades crisscrossed into a deadly cage. A cybernetic guard took a step forward, only to have half of its foot severed, the cut oozing a sizzling blue smoke.
Dr. Shangguan suddenly threw his scalpel at the overhead light, the shattered bulb causing three laser beams to refract eerily off the walls.
"Energy pulse interval is 2.3 seconds!" Duanmu screamed as her press badge was sliced in half by a passing laser beam.
Bo Yu's pupils contracted into vertical slits as his wolf claws dug into the ground, sending concrete debris flying. The shards, incredibly, created brief openings in the laser grid.
Sweat streamed down Bo Yu's throat, seeping into his combat suit, and he suddenly closed his eyes.
The burning afterimage on his retina began to rearrange in the darkness, and the flickering laser paths slowly traced the energy flow through the underground pipes.
When a specific frequency vibration reached his feet, he yanked Dr. Shangguan's medical box and hurled it toward the southeastern ventilation duct.
"It's a resonant cavity!" The insane laughter of Zhuge, the scientist, erupted through the speaker. "The little wolf cub can even smell my quantum resonance device…"
Bo Yu, however, seized the moment to throw the locator, tangled with Tang Yao's hair, into the air.
The light blue roots from the locator grew wildly through the laser rain, drilling into the cracks of the ground following the resonance frequency.
When the navigation arrow suddenly bent 90 degrees toward the floor, Bo Yu quickly tore open the alloy shield left by Murong. The dark silver fragments spun in his palm like a top.
"Shangguan, load your modified neurotoxin into a smoke grenade." Bo Yu's voice was calm despite the blood dripping from his lip, his canine teeth piercing through it, the scent of blood riling his werewolf bloodline. "Duanmu, use the electromagnetic pulse to create a three-second blind spot—I'm delivering a shocking greeting to our military advisor."
The torrential rain outside formed a waterfall against the bulletproof glass, and Bo Yu's combat suit clung to his muscular form.
He gazed at his team as they fastened their safety lines and suddenly recalled the night Tang Yao was kidnapped. Her hair had been damp with those same icy water droplets.
When the roots of the locator suddenly emitted emerald-colored fluorescence, Bo Yu's wolf claws reached down to the trembling floor. As they pierced the ground, concrete debris exploded like fireworks.
The fragments of the dark silver shield emitted a buzzing sound within the energy vortex, and the blue light from the locator's roots solidified, weaving a glowing spiderweb beneath their feet.
Dr. Shangguan instinctively grabbed Duanmu's wrist, the clinking sound of test tubes colliding drowning in the cracking of steel beams.
The feeling of weightlessness lasted less than two seconds.
As Bo Yu's combat boots slammed onto the metal floor, the acrid scent of electrolysis filled the air.
The seventh underground floor's ceiling was covered in honeycomb-shaped energy storage units, with a central diamond-shaped crystal casting a ghostly green light on thirty-six prisms. The refracted beams wove shackles around the transparent chamber where Tang Yao was imprisoned.
"The resonant cavity is at the crystal base!" Duanmu's camera lens suddenly exploded with sparks. She ripped the smoking storage card from it and slid it into her brooch. "But those prisms…"
Before she could finish, the fragments of Murong's shield suddenly shrieked.
The red marks on Bo Yu's neck glowed like a branding iron, and he grabbed two spinning pieces of metal, his claws grinding against the alloy, sending sparks that arced through the air.
When the second wave of prism beams came, the group realized that translucent data streams were swimming through the light screens.
Dr. Shangguan suddenly slapped a neurotoxin cartridge into a shotgun. "It's a tangible firewall! That crazy Zhuge has quantumized the entire defense system!"
A low growl rumbled in Bo Yu's throat as the fabric at his shoulder tore with a sharp sound. Dark-blue wolf fur broke through his skin.
The energy patterns on his retina now appeared as clearly as a circuit board, and he saw Tang Yao's eyelashes melting—the drops of water falling from them seemed to open microscopic cracks in the quantum layer upon touching the base of the chamber.
"Duanmu!" Bo Yu suddenly threw a fragment of the shield into the air. "Use the electromagnetic pulse to hit the three o'clock direction of the prisms!"
The female reporter swung the modified camera strap, its metal clasp catching the spinning fragment.
As the blue-purple electrical light shot from her brooch, the thirty-six prisms suddenly trembled like a disturbed swarm of bees.
Bo Yu seized the opportunity, using the ground to propel himself into the air. His spine bent into an impossible arc, clearing the light screen's blockade.
"Stop him!" A shrill scream echoed from the speaker, "That thing is cultivated from werewolf bone marrow…"
The rising wolf claws were faster than the warning.
Bo Yu tore through three data beams, the claws dripping silver liquid metal as they were burned by the quantum radiation.
When he landed heavily on the crystal base, his pupils contracted into two red vertical lines, the howls of his ancestors hunting under the moon resonating in his ears.
The shockwave from the energy core blasted everyone to the ground.
Dr. Shangguan collided into a metal rack filled with experimental records, yellowed pages scattering like snowflakes; Duanmu used the tripod to block the ventilation duct, her hair standing up straight in the chaotic energy currents.
Only Bo Yu remained, embedded in the eye of the storm, his wolf claws deeply embedded in the crystal's core. The ancient bloodline coursing through his veins fought for control with the quantum resonance cavity.
"You're going to destroy..." Zhuge's synthetic electronic voice suddenly distorted into a manic laugh. "No, wait! This wave is…"
The explosion of the crystal shattered all sounds.
Bo Yu was thrown toward the ceiling thirty feet above, but mid-fall, he twisted and flipped, his claws scraping five radiant sparks along the surface of the chamber.
The quantum prisms shattered like wilting petals, and the liquid that had confined Tang Yao began to pour out from the cracks, gathering on the ground into a stream that sparkled like starlight.
"Medical team!" Bo Yu's roar was tinged with blood foam.
As he ripped open the chamber door with his bare hands, the edge burned black from the antimatter coating.
Dr. Shangguan scrambled toward him, his scalpel spinning in his hand, precisely cutting the nerve connection at the back of Tang Yao's neck.
Duanmu's camera shutter clicked awkwardly.
The female reporter backed up, filming the ground full of crystal fragments. "Exclusive news! The quantum defense system actually uses biological resonance technology…"
Cheers were cut short by a sudden alarm.
The entire laboratory floor began to modularly reorganize, with hidden weapon slots opening like venomous snakes baring their fangs.
Bo Yu handed the unconscious Tang Yao to Dr. Shangguan and turned, just as he saw dozens of cybernetic guards with night vision goggles emerging from the ventilation ducts. Their mechanical arms, adorned with Ouyang's family crest, grinned maliciously in the dim light.
"Spread out!" Bo Yu kicked over a reassembled metal control panel.
The two-ton alloy block smashed into the first cybernetic guard, and Bo Yu used the recoil to propel himself behind a load-bearing column.
Bullets whizzed past his ear, and the air was thick with the burning scent of wolf fur.
Dr. Shangguan suddenly launched three syringes filled with antidote: "Their respirators! Aim for the neck vents!"
Duanmu leapt onto a falling filing cabinet, and the modified brooch shot out an electromagnetic net that ensnared three enemies.
Seizing the moment, Bo Yu surged forward, his wolf claws tearing through the bulletproof ceramic armor like paper.
A cybernetic guard suddenly self-destructed, and the splattering liquid metal etched a skull pattern into the wall, but Bo Yu cleaved it in mid-air with the shield fragment.
"Left hallway!" Duanmu screamed suddenly.
Her brooch detector was flashing wildly. "There's a heat source..."
Before she could finish, the entire wall collapsed with a roar.
Six guards, equipped with exoskeletons, broke through the wall, their sonic cannons shattering all glassware.
Bo Yu was thrown to the ground by the high-frequency sound waves, blood leaking from his ear canals. The energy patterns on his retina instantly scrambled into chaos.
The intense pain only triggered the ferocity of his bloodline.
He rolled away from the second sonic wave, and as his canine teeth pierced his tongue, the ancient hunting instincts overtook his body.
When the third guard raised his weapon, Bo Yu had already vaulted over the charging cannon's charging tube, grabbing the guard's chin and snapping it with a brutal twist—a bone-shattering crack mixed with the explosion of the overloaded weapon.
Dr. Shangguan injected the last dose of stimulant into his thigh, and with surgical precision, severed a guard's Achilles tendon.
Duanmu swung the tripod and smashed the surveillance camera, the splintering lens reflecting countless figures engaged in bloodied combat.
When the last cybernetic guard fell, Bo Yu's wolf claws were buried deep in a guard's mechanical eye socket, crushing the chip transmitting data.
"The strategist is stalling for time," Bo Yu tossed the brain tissue off his claws, looking toward the slowly opening gate at the end of the corridor. "Tang Yao's signal just flashed…"
The ground suddenly trembled.
A low-frequency vibration, beyond human hearing limits, resonated from the ground. All metal surfaces rippled like water.
Duanmu's detector went black, and Dr. Shangguan's scalpel shook violently in his palm.
When the gate finally opened, Bo Yu's pupils reflected a massive steel figure nearly filling the entire passage—the hydraulic tubes at its joints coiled like giant serpents, and the red light from its single scanning eye scorched the ground.
The communicator in Bo Yu's suit crackled with static as he felt a bullet wound on his collarbone.
He watched as the steel puppet raised its alloy fist, the size of a truck, and suddenly noticed the old logo of the Tang Family Corporation engraved on its surface.
The sound of the rain mixed with blood as it pooled at his feet.
