New Threat Rises

The ruins of the temple lay in eerie silence, the last embers of golden fire flickering against the cold stone. Yue Rin stood amidst the carnage, her chest rising and falling with each ragged breath. Blood dripped from her shoulder, staining her torn robes, but her grip on the spear remained firm.

The assassin was dead. His body had turned to ashes, devoured by divine flames. The shadow beast had been vanquished, its sinister presence wiped from existence.

And yet…

Something felt wrong.

The air was too still. The battle should have attracted attention, yet no reinforcements had arrived. Was it a trap?

A faint chuckle broke the silence.

Yue Rin's body tensed.

The sound came from above.

She barely had time to react before a powerful force crashed down from the temple ruins. Yue Rin leaped backward just as a dark figure landed where she had been standing, cracking the ground beneath him.

A new enemy.

He was tall, dressed in a flowing black coat with crimson embroidery. A single silver mask covered the lower half of his face, but his golden eyes gleamed with malice.

"Impressive," he murmured, brushing dust from his coat. "I didn't expect you to kill him so easily."

Yue Rin didn't lower her guard.

"Who are you?" she demanded.

The man smirked. "A messenger. Unlike the fool you just burned alive, I am not here to test you. I already know your strength."

Yue Rin's grip on her spear tightened. This man was dangerous. His presence alone sent shivers down her spine, and his aura was suffocating, like a beast waiting to strike.

He took a slow step forward. "But there's something I need to confirm."

Then he moved.

Yue Rin barely had time to react before he was in front of her—faster than anyone she had faced before.

His palm struck her chest, sending her flying backward.

She slammed into a broken pillar, pain jolting through her spine. She coughed, tasting blood, but forced herself to rise.

Too fast. Too strong.

The man watched her with mild amusement. "Still standing? Good. I was hoping you wouldn't break too quickly."

Yue Rin wiped the blood from her lips. No choice.

Golden flames erupted around her as she channeled her divine energy, her spear glowing with raw power.

The man's golden eyes narrowed slightly. Then, for the first time—he smirked.

"Show me, then," he said softly.
