The morning sun cast a warm glow over the city, but within the confines of their apartment, a palpable tension lingered. Abhay sat at the kitchen table, a steaming cup of tea in his hands, his mind racing with thoughts of the previous night's encounter.
Yue Rin entered the room, her eyes reflecting concern. "Couldn't sleep?" she asked softly.
He offered a faint smile. "Too much on my mind."
She took a seat across from him, her gaze unwavering. "We need to talk about what happened. About your past."
Abhay sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I was involved in... operations that required certain skills. Skills that made me valuable to powerful people."
"And now those people are after you?"
"It seems so. Kingslayer was just the beginning."
Yue Rin reached out, placing her hand over his. "We'll face this together. But you have to let me in, Abhay."
He nodded, gratitude evident in his eyes. "I will. No more secrets."
As they shared a moment of understanding, a sudden noise shattered the tranquility. The windowpane cracked, and Abhay's instincts kicked in. He pulled Yue Rin to the floor just as a bullet whizzed past, embedding itself in the wall behind them.
"Sniper!" Abhay hissed, scanning the surroundings.
Yue Rin's eyes widened in fear. "What do we do?"
"Stay low. We need to get out of here."
Keeping close to the ground, they crawled toward the back door. Abhay's mind raced, calculating their options. It was clear that whoever was after him had no qualms about targeting those he cared for.
Once outside, they moved swiftly through the alleyways, seeking refuge. Abhay led them to an old, abandoned warehouse—a place he knew would offer temporary safety.
Inside, Yue Rin's breaths came in rapid gasps. "This is insane. How long can we keep running?"
Abhay clenched his fists. "We won't. It's time to take the fight to them."
"But how? We don't even know who's behind this."
He met her gaze, determination burning in his eyes.
