It was a hectic ride from Baya's house to the school compound which looked so old, with the sound of cars driving into the building and the rustling wind filling the air.
Baya pulled over in the parking lot before alighting from the car. The girls joined her, neither of them excited to be here.
Anna, being a witch and the weakest of the species, had to act like nothing, an insect crawling back to their den.
"My dear, I will wait for you to take the exam that will confirm your admission and the class you will be admitted to," Baya paused, studying the uneasy look on Ophelia's face. "Anna, please take her to the hall where the exam is being held."
"Yes, Mama," Anna muttered before leaving for the hall.
Ophelia tightly held her admission letter, which included her seat number. She walked behind Anna, her gaze scanning the surroundings crowded with students, indicating that it was their resumption day.
"This is the hall where the exam is taking place," Anna said, pointing in the direction.
Ophelia entered the hall, which was already filled with students. She didn't need anyone to tell her that she was late.
"Who are you, and what are you looking for here?" A young woman with honey skin tone, wavy black hair, and brown eyes asked.
"Oh, I am Ophelia Gaian Gidaf. I am here to take the admission exam," Ophelia informed, hiding her nervousness.
The lady stared at Ophelia from head to toe before requesting, "Miss Gidaf, let me see your admission letter."
"This is it, ma," Ophelia stretched it to the lady, who confirmed she was really there to take the exams.
Given the fact that Ophelia was already delayed, she decided not to ask any questions before handing over the answer booklet and question paper to her. "You have thirty minutes to finish, Miss Gidaf."
Ophelia smiled faintly before starting to write.
When exactly thirty minutes had passed, the lady began collecting the answer sheets. She didn't even wait for Ophelia to finish before taking the answer booklet from her.
"Damn! I thought it was going to be a magical practical question."
"Me too. I didn't even study before coming."
"I should have registered last year. It was a combat exam."
Ophelia pretended not to hear their words before walking out of the hall, feeling grateful.
She knew that if it was a combat or magical practical question, she would never receive the acceptance letter.
"Ophelia, how was the exam? I heard it was a written exam about—"
"Besides the fact that the lady didn't allow me to finish, I knew everything," Ophelia revealed, silencing Anna.
"You never can tell, so let's wait for the results to be out," Anna muttered calmly, a teasing smile on her lips.
Ophelia remained silent, trying her best to trust her instincts and not be negative.
They waited for an hour before the exam results came out. Seeing students rush to the administrative block to check the results, Anna and Ophelia headed in that direction.
They barely made it to the middle of the crowd, everyone pushing their way to the front to search for their names and the class they were admitted to.
"Who is this girl who came first in the exam?" A loud voice echoed, silencing the crowd.
A girl coming first? It had never happened in the history of MRC.
"Ophelia Gaian Gidaf."
The name made Anna and Ophelia exchange glances. They quickly squeezed themselves into the crowd until they found their way to the front.
It turned out Ophelia came first with 90% and was admitted into class 6:6, the most popular class containing the strongest and most intelligent students in the final year. Not only that, Ophelia was the only student admitted to that class.
"Anna, I did it," her voice suddenly echoed, embracing Anna.
"Hey, this is definitely not the time for this. What you need right now is to get your ass to the admin block and change your class! You should be in either 5:5 or 6:1," Anna said, upsetting Ophelia.
She is probably jealous of me, Ophelia thought inwardly.
They walked out of the crowd to the admin office, all eyes pinned on them, wondering how it happened.
Was she that intelligent and strong? Who exactly is she?
"You have to request a change of class when you get in there, okay?" Anna persuaded as they arrived at the front of the admin office.
Ophelia pretended not to hear her before knocking on the door. She knocked twice, and with permission to enter, she walked in.
"You must be the highest scorer, right?" A young man with chocolate-toned skin asked calmly, his gaze fixed on the file he was looking for. "Congratulations, Miss Gidaf," the man said, stretching over the acceptance letter to Ophelia.
He stared at her from head to toe, not wanting to release the letter just yet. She might be intelligent but not strong enough to be in that class.
But according to the rule, only the highest scorer would be admitted into class 6:6 this year.
"Are you a vampire? Witch? Werelion? Weretiger? Or—"
"Sir, please just give me my acceptance letter. I am not here for this talk," Ophelia cut him off, her sharp tongue not failing her in a moment like this.
The man let go of the letter, earning a death glare from Ophelia who took the letter from him before storming out of his office.
"He changed the class?"
"Anna, I am not changing class. I worked for this and achieved this. Stop trying to scare me or are you jealous of me?" Ophelia asked before leaving.
Anna exhaled, following her behind until they arrived at the parking lot. They hurried to their grandmother before breaking the news to her.
Instead of the normal excitement anyone would feel, Baya suddenly became sad.
No one who doesn't know that being in the ratio six classes is nothing but death and class 6:6? The special trained students? No amount of training, not even special Borns with rare kinds of powers and gifts can overcome the special trained students' gifts.
Even for Gata, it was hard surviving in ratio six class all through her college year.
