Chapter 20

Eve's eyes widened as he struggled against the blanket that was drowning him. When he tried to sit up, he groaned in pain because his entire body was aching from last night's beating.

He rubbed his enchanting and innocent doe eyes and roamed them around the empty room, but there was no one there. He yawned but winced when he felt a sting in his jaw as a result of the kicks.

Where's he? He has no memory of when his roommate with anger issues left his bed. The only thing he remembered was being writhed into the sheets and eventually passing out.

Nonetheless, he cares less about where Alpha has gone. It's a good thing he wasn't the first thing he saw in the morning.

When he tried to get out of bed, he hissed. However, a small object that appeared to have been with him all along left the bed with him. He flinched at the sound of a glass hitting the floor and, with puzzled eyes he picked up the small bottle.

What's this and how did it get on my bed? He scrutinised the bottle, fiddling it between his fingers. Pills?

"Ah!" He gasped in fright when he was suddenly slammed against the closed window, and his breath was cut off by a rough hand on his neck. He winced because his body was already bruised enough to bear any additional pain. He attempted to escape, but collided with something wet and muscular.

"Don't touch things that don't belong to you!" The angry beast squeezing his neck growled, tightening his grip and causing Eve to choke. Alpha fixed his gaze on the gauging thing fighting for his life in front of him.

Oh, so this medicine is his. Turns out Alpha accidentally left the bottle on Eve's bed when he tried to cuddle with him last night.

"I-I wasn't...I found it on the floor and was returning it to your desk," Eve made an attempt to defend himself. His eyes were tightly shut, and his heart was pounding incessantly.

"Did I ask you to do that?" Alpha snarled. In an attempt to push Alpha away, Eve's fighting hands landed on a wet and cold chest and felt the muscles pulsing beneath his hands.

Alpha looked down at him, about to give him another good beating when his gaze was drawn to Eve's cheeks and the visible baby fat on them, which was more visible due to his scrunched nose and clenched eyes. Alpha's grip naturally loosened slightly.

"So, what's next? You want me to express my gratitude."

Eve flinched at the sudden gentleness in his voice, his hands slipping down from Alpha's chest to his stomach. Eve slowly opened his trembling eyes which locked with the unmoving silver brown ones. "I-I wasn't-"

"Touch my stuff again and you're doomed for your life," Alpha didn't let him complete as he leaned forward, face inches away. It scares Eve how strong this person is, or how he could easily kill him and no one will bat an eye on this matter.

Alpha let go of his neck but didn't move, remaining towering over him with his tall and lean body. Eve frowned at him, wondering why he wasn't moving, but when Alpha scoffed annoyingly, something twitched under Eve's hands, causing him to realise his hands' position.

"Fuck!" Eve yelled, temporarily deafening Alpha's ears. He quickly retracted his hands, a flush covering his cheeks. The terrifying moment had abruptly turned awkward. "I'm sorry."

"Whatever," Alpha said, his deep and smooth voice sending shivers down Eve's spine and making his legs weak.

Alpha let him go completely and went to his bed, where he changed into a dark blue t-shirt, his hair still wet from the shower. When he was dressed, he caught Eve staring back at him.

"Didn't know you're creep as well?" Alpha smirked.

Eve's eyes widened as he quickly looked easy, cheeks turning deep red.

"W-Why did you do that last night when I was only doing what you asked me?" he tried hard to not show his weakness, and Alpha snickered at his pathetic attempt at an act of bravery.

Alpha stood from his bed and trapped Eve again, looking straight into his eyes making Eve panic. "Did what?"

"Didn't you ask me to bring you apple juice?" He was scared but he wants answers.

Alpha's body tensed without his conscience, and Eve saw his emotionless dead eye twitch for a split second. "What is this nonsense you're talking about? When did I ask you to bring--" It's as if he has no idea what Eve was spitting. But his eyes widened as if something clicked in his head, he grabbed Eve's arms and pulled him closer. "What else did I say?!"

"You ask me to call you Will-uaghn!"

Eve's face swung to the other side as he stumbled, coughing profusely as Alpha's punch was quite painful.

"If you love your life, never finish that sentence!" he huffed like a wild animal out of control. With burning eyes, he glared at Eve's coughing self, grabbing a fistful of Eve's hair and pulling him back to face him. "Did you hear me?"

Eve was perplexed as to what he did wrong this time. He cried out and nodded weakly. Alpha threw him, causing him to fall to the floor.

Alpha suddenly sat on his bed, his face hidden in his hands. "Ughh!! Fuck!" He groaned furiously.

Eve watched the horrifying scene with utter dread and confusion. Alpha's empty gaze was already startling enough, so when the menace peeked at Eve through his unnerving eyes, it's as if the time in the room froze.

Heart thundering in his ribcage, Eve slowly and unconsciously crawled backward until his back hit the wall beneath the window.

"Pft—! Hahaha!!" Alpha bursts out laughing out of nowhere, causing Eve to suck in his breath.

"Oh, yeah, now I remembered." He slowed down to smiling menacingly, wiping away his tears, no longer looking angry, but his current expression scares Eve even more than before. "I really asked that."

He stood up from the bed and squatted in front of Eve, almost causing the poor boy to shit his pants.

"Are you high?" he whispered in Eve's face. It's you who seemed high. Eve wanted to spit it loud in his face but he could only shake his head in fear. "Wanna see how it feels like to be in heaven? Open your mouth."

"N-No..." Eve was paralyzed to the spot. Alpha's words and menacing aura held him in a tightening grip. Alpha chuckled at his frightened expression while playing with the bottle of the drug. When he started to open the bottle Eve pushed him away and tried to flee, only to be pulled back by his collar.

"No!" Eve struggled harder. And Alpha pinned his wrists on the wall. "Are you insane?" Eve cried out.

"You want to know how insane I am? I can cut every part of your body if someone challenges me without blinking," Alpha smirked wickedly when Eve started to beg him.

"N-No, please! Let me go!"

"Pussy!" he laughed and rose, stuffing the drug in his pocket. "Weak and pathetic!"

Eve clenched his chest and let out a sigh of relief, but still didn't feel out of danger.

"Hey, fat cheeks," Eve frowned at the name. "Never let me find you messing up with my things or else I won't go as easy as now," Alpha barked, transforming into his usual infuriating self.

And with that he left the room, leaving Eve with his thoughts.

Is he mentally ill? Why does he always seems like a completely different person with a completely different personality every time I meet him?

He exhaled, his legs still weak. What a great way of starting a day, he thought.

My first encounter with him nearly killed me in the sheets, then he gave me this wound, and then the next day he acted all kind and sweet and then made those guys beat me, last night he acted as if he was in so much pain, and now he acts as if he's insane. Which of his true selves among all these encounters? I'm not sure anymore.

Romantic, isn't it?

Meanwhile, River and Sage were making their way to pick up Eve for the class that he has yet to attend.

"Come on, River, don't be so heartless. Tell me the real reason," Sage whined, while clinging to a very frustrated River's shoulder.

He was happy. Happy because River wasn't being an asshole with him, but rather being as gentle as he could. Which Sage finds strange, but he wasn't complaining. However, he regrets dozing off last night though, and couldn't get to hear River's reason.

And now River is refusing to tell him. Or maybe scared.

"Stop crying goddamnit. You're so annoying Ziggy, it's your fault for sleeping. Stop complaining because you lost your chance," River rolled his eyes annoyingly at Sage's trying to act cute with his puppy eyes and a pout. River gulped and blinked profusely trying hard to resist him.

"But-" Sage's mouth got shut by a firm hand.

"Stop it now. I'll not fall for that," he pulled the grumbling boy to his side and continued their way to Eve.

However, they were shocked when the door opened on its own. And Alpha barged out of the room with a bitchy and furious face.

"Hey, dude good mor-" River waved.

"Fuck off," Came the reply.

"What happened to him?" Sage inquired frighteningly, as Alpha speedily walked past them like a wild wolf. He still gets shivers after his encounter with Alpha from last night.

"Nothing, that's his normal self," River sighs.

They knocked and the doors opened after a few seconds. However, both of them got shocked when they saw Eve.

"What the heck? What happened to you?" River asked worriedly.

Sage pushed River away and pulled Eve to himself. He observed Eve's bruises and wounded face.

"Alpha did it?" he asked slowly. Seeing how concerned he looked Eve shakes his head. "Then who? Come on, tell us?"

"Last night when I was getting back to my room some guys-" he started but got cut off by River.

"Fuck!" River grunted. Sage blinked in confusion at him.

"Whats the matter? Do you know why they did this-"

"Ziggy, stay with him!" River cut him off, making them both confused.

"Wait, where are you going?" Sage watched as how River's eyes flickered and couldn't meet Sage's gaze anymore.

"To search those bastards," he left without saying anything.

With a terrifying growl, he strolled his way in the search. His burning eyes darted around the area, looking for the same faces he ordered last night to stop Eve's path until Alpha came and found him.

When he arrived at the cafeteria, the guys were laughing and jokingly hitting each other. He approached them as those in his path stepped aside to save their lives.

"What did I fucking warn you about?!" River punched the first person he came across, which silenced the entire crowd. Their faces twisted in panic and fear, as he delivered another painful punch to his nose. River clenched his teeth at him, danger dripping from his face as his shadow loomed over the guy, and none of his other friends came to his defense. He dragged him out of the cafeteria by his collar.

"Answer!" River growled when they were outside.

"T-To not to touch a single string of his hair. But we weren't planning to," blood dripped from his nose, that he breathed from his mouth. "But we c-couldn't do anything, Alpha came out of nowhere. He ordered us to hit that boy until he said to stop. A-And you know we can't disobey Alpha."

River shut his eyes at the words. He let go of the guy who landed with a thud on the ground. River grunted and clenched his fists, but not out of rage, but rather out of guilt.

The guilt of taking advantage of Eve. It's not the first time he had done anything like that, so why he's feeling down this time?

"Fuck, it's all my fault. I should have been more careful," he breathed heavily, rubbing his face he turned around but his eyes were immediately filled with fear as he saw Sage standing there with a bitter expression. "Ziggy? Why are you here?"

"You did the fuck what now?" Sage roared, just when he thought they were making progress, River always have to do something that made them take two steps back in their relationship. "Oh hell, I can't believe you?"

"Ziggy listen to me," River run up to him and tried to grab his face but Sage slapped his hands away. "I had no choice, I was fucking desperate and wanted to take you away from Alpha at any cost. So, when I saw Eve in the hallway I just asked the guys to keep him there for a while but I didn't expect Alpha to pull something like that."

"Are you kidding me? He's Alpha, what do you expect from him?"

And if the cost is hurting Eve again, if Sage can be closer to River after bruising that poor kid, then Sage doesn't want to make that progress.

"I'm sorry, I just want to get you out of that room-"

"And you did that by using that innocent kid who fucking trusts you more than anyone."

"And I'm sorry for that," River tried to convince him making Sage glare at his not-at-all-sorry face.

"River you're not," Sage snapped with a disappointed face. "I can tell by your face."

"Okay, I'm not. I don't really feel sorry for what I did because I can do anything when it's come to you. But I genuinely feel bad for him after seeing his condition. Alpha, that son of a devil that I pray really doesn't have mercy for anyone." River tried to convince him, but Sage didn't listened to him.

"And I thought you can get better," He turned on his heel and began to walk away.

"Hey wait! Listen to me! Ziggy?!"
