An ambulance was called, and Asher was rushed to the hospital. Most of the family members went with him, their faces pale with worry.

I barely paid attention to the hushed conversations or the judgmental glances thrown in Cole's direction. Instead, I grabbed his wrist and pulled him along, leading him upstairs to my room.

Once inside, I shut the door behind us, blocking out the rest of the world. Cole stood there, silent, his fists still clenched, blood smeared across his knuckles.

I turned to Alfred, the butler, who had followed us up. "Can you bring me a first aid kit?"

"Of course, Miss Caldwell," Alfred replied with a nod before disappearing down the hall.

Cole exhaled sharply. "Astrid, I don't need a—"

"You do."

He looked at me, and for a moment, neither of us said anything.

A few minutes later, Alfred returned with the kit. He handed it to me with a polite nod. "Will that be all, Miss Caldwell?"
