Chapter 37

I barely got any sleep that night. Not because of the nightmares. Not because of the suffocating feeling of being watched. Not even because of Cole invading my thoughts.

No, the real reason?

Chloe was the worst sleeping partner in existence.

At one point, she nearly kicked me off the massive bed. How I had ever managed to share a bed with her growing up was still a mystery to me.

By the time 5:00 a.m. rolled around, I gave up on trying to sleep. The sun had barely begun to rise, the sky still covered in darkness, but I had a plan, and I needed to act before the rest of the house woke up.

I slipped out of bed carefully, brushing my teeth and taking a quick shower. Then I pulled on a pair of grey sweatpants and a black hoodie, tying my hair up in a loose ponytail.

Quietly, I made my way to the door—only to freeze.
