"Thank you," I said softly, looking up at Cole.
He didn't even blink. "No need to thank me. I'm just doing my job."
A slow smirk curved my lips as an idea formed in my mind. A ridiculous, reckless idea.
"Then do your job properly," I said, tilting my head.
Cole frowned slightly. "What?"
I crossed my arms, feigning innocence. "I can't sleep, and your job is to protect me, right? If you were lying next to me, you'd be doing your job properly, and I'd actually be able to rest."
His expression remained unreadable, but I didn't miss the slight twitch in his jaw.
"I'm good out here, thanks," he said flatly.
I sighed dramatically, leaning against the doorframe. "Cold-hearted as ever."
Cole didn't respond, just stared at me with that intense, unreadable gaze.
What the hell was I even saying? Why was I flirting? Why was I trying to get him into my room?
