Part 2: The Quest for the Glimmer of Light
Lin Wan nodded. "Okay, you should try to get in touch with Li Yi as much as possible in the next few days, see if you can test his tone, and try to get him on our side. I will continue to collect evidence from the side and cover for you. Remember, don't be reckless, and contact me immediately if there's any situation."
Su Yao nodded firmly. After saying goodbye to Lin Wan, she walked alone on the way home. It was already deep night. The dim streetlights shone on her, stretching her lonely but resolute figure. She silently swore in her heart that she must seize this opportunity, take the initiative to befriend Li Yi, and with his help, uncover the truth of that year and clear her father's name.
In the following days, Su Yao walked on thin ice every day in the company. On one hand, she carefully dealt with Zhang Feng's entanglement. On the other hand, she tried every means to get close to Li Yi. But the company was so big, and as a small employee, how could she approach the company's senior leaders? Every time she caught a glimpse of Li Yi's figure in the corridor from afar and just mustered up the courage to go forward, she was interrupted by the gazes of her colleagues or the busy work. And Zhang Feng, seemingly aware of Su Yao's unusual behavior, troubled her more frequently. He either deliberately assigned her heavy work or ridiculed her in front of everyone, making her exhausted.
One day, after finally finishing the work at hand, Su Yao was about to go to the pantry to take a breath when she bumped into Zhang Feng at the corner. A flash of displeasure crossed Zhang Feng's face, and then he sneered, "Su Yao, in such a hurry. Are you rushing to meet your lover?"
Su Yao's heart tightened, but she forced herself to remain calm on the face. "Manager Zhang, don't talk nonsense. I'm just going to get a glass of water."
Zhang Feng leaned closer to her and lowered his voice, "I advise you to be honest. Don't think I don't know what you're up to. If you dare to ruin my business, you'll be in for it!" After saying that, he swaggered away.
Su Yao looked at Zhang Feng's back, trembling with anger, but there was nothing she could do. Returning to her seat, she looked out at the bustling city scene outside the window, her heart filled with confusion and helplessness. Just then, she noticed that the new intern, Xiao Yan, was looking at her quietly, with concern and curiosity in her eyes. Xiao Yan seemed to realize that Su Yao had noticed her, and she lowered her head in embarrassment, pretending to be busy. Su Yao had an idea in her mind. She thought that this Xiao Yan might become an 'ally' of hers in the company. After all, she had witnessed Zhang Feng's various forms of harassment towards her and might be able to help.
Before Su Yao could figure out how to talk to her, her phone suddenly vibrated. It was a message from Lin Wan: "Su Yao, don't be discouraged. I've found out that Li Yi will attend an industry seminar in the convention and exhibition center in the city center tomorrow. This might be a good opportunity for you to get close to him."
A glimmer of hope flashed in Su Yao's eyes. She tightly held her phone and secretly made up her mind that she must seize this opportunity and take the initiative to befriend Li Yi. She knew very well that Li Yi not only held a special position in the company but might also possess some crucial information that had been unknown. If she could gain his trust and work with him, perhaps she could break through the thick fog in front of her and uncover the truth of her father's unjust case back then. Even if the road ahead was full of thorns and difficulties, she would never back down. She was determined to clear her father's name and bring those secrets hidden in the dark for many years to light.
