The officers close the door and take the unoccupied seats at the table
across from Audrey. Officer McKenna starts the recorder and states who they are
and who she is for record purposes. Officer Evans meets her gaze and begins
asking her questions. "Miss Lee, walk us through the events that lead to the
commotion in the parking lot." Audrey
clears her throat and begins. "Abigail and I were in our apartment. I was in
the shower and had just gotten dressed when the doorbell rang. Abigail answered
the door and I heard a man's voice." Audrey closes her eyes in an attempt to
remember the morning's events. 'Did you see the man? Did your sister invite him
in?" Audrey slowly opens her eyes and replies "I thought that is was our
neighbor Vince but his voice sounded strange…I didn't see the man."
Audrey tries to remember every detail and describes the day to the
officers. Abigail had gotten a strange phone call the previous day and seemed
on edge. Audrey had noticed that her sister seemed a little wired and buzzed.
"I drank way to much coffee this morning." Abigail said. Audrey rolls her eyes
"You have to watch it, you know that it gives you migraines Abi." She notices
that Abigail keeps subconsciously wiping at her nose, like a little kid, as if
she has phantom snot. Suddenly Abigail exclaims "Oh shit!" Audrey turns her
head to see the scene before her. Abi is wearing one of Audrey's white
sweaters, and her nose had just erupted blood all over it. Audrey's gorgeous;
snow-white sweater that she had gotten for Christmas, from her ex-boyfriend,
Mark, that now resembled a used tampon. "Damn it Abi, you better hope that the
dry cleaners can save my sweater." Audrey remarks rather annoyed. "I'm going to
take a shower while there is still some hot water left."
The hot water caresses the knots in Audrey's neck. As she massages the
shampoo into her hair, she feels like one of those women in television
commercials, and smiles. A shower has always been a moment of tranquility and
meditation to Audrey. With a sigh, Audrey stretches her arms and massages her
neck as the warm water envelopes her. "This is what inner peace feels like."
She thinks as her fingertips massages her scalp as she rinses her hair. "This
is heavenly." Smiling she tries to search for another word for the television
commercial that she imagines herself in. "This is…Freaking cold!" Audrey gasps.
Abruptly, the shower had started spitting cold water. Audrey dries herself and
starts to get dressed. The shower had left her wanting, much like when a partner
reaches climax too early during sex. "Self-centered cow." She mutters as she
pulls on her shirt. "Always uses all the hot water." The sound of the doorbell
ceases Audrey's tantrum immediately.
