Chapter 4

The next moment, Ivo's playful voice sounded in my ear.

"Scarlett, I told you I'd make you regret it."

As he spoke, the container holding the cornea in his hand was smashed to the ground.

Glass shattered everywhere, like the last straw that broke the camel's back.

Hope was gone.

In an instant, I violently pushed him away.

"As you wished, I regret it now!"

Looking at my hollow eyes, devoid of any light.

Although he knew I couldn't see, hearing my words and looking at my eyes.

Ivo's heart skipped a beat.

He felt inexplicably flustered.

"What are you doing looking like that? I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine."

But in my anger, a sweet, metallic taste welled up in my throat, and I suddenly coughed up blood.

In that moment, Ivo, his face now splattered with blood, was dumbfounded.

Seeing me faint and fall to the ground like a kite, he instinctively wanted to pick me up.

But he was stopped by someone who arrived.

Eliot picked up my unconscious form in his arms, his hawk-like eyes glaring fiercely at Ivo.

"A taste of her own medicine? Do you even know that the eyes you have now were given to you by Scarlett?"

"This was her last chance, do you really want her dead!" With a dramatic flourish, Eliot slapped the corneal transplant consent form I had previously signed onto Ivo's face.

Ivo's hands trembled as he held the form. When he saw that he was listed as the transplant recipient, tears streamed down his face.

"Tell me this isn't true, right?" he pleaded.

Eliot let out a derisive snort in response.

"Stop deluding yourself. I truly regret ever entrusting Scarlett to you in the first place."

With that, Eliot scooped me up in his arms to carry me out.

Seeing this, Ivo desperately grabbed Eliot's arm.

"Put Scarlett down. I need to wait for her to wake up so I can ask her myself. If I'm in the wrong, I'll accept it!"

His voice was harsh and grating, each word seemingly laced with blood.

But Eliot wouldn't allow Ivo to touch me anymore. He viciously kicked him away.

Ivo tried to persist, but found himself surrounded by the bodyguards Eliot had brought along.

Realizing force wouldn't work, Ivo, that proud man who ruled the business world with an iron fist - the great Mr. Huntington himself - fell to his knees at Eliot's feet.

Tears and snot mingled on his face, smearing it entirely.

He begged pitifully, "I was so wrong. Please, I'm begging you, let me keep Scarlett. Please?" He gripped Eliot's pant leg desperately as he spoke.

But Eliot just looked down at him coldly.

His voice was emotionless and flat.

"Does this situation feel familiar to you?"

At those words, Ivo's whole body froze, then he shook his head frantically.

But Eliot couldn't stand seeing Ivo like this, and reminded him pointedly:

"This is exactly how you treated Scarlett in the ballroom at the charity gala."

Hearing that, the color drained from Ivo's face.

He kept muttering over and over:

"It's my fault, it's all my fault."

But Eliot didn't want to hear any of that nonsense. He simply picked me up and put me in the Ferrari.

His voice was icy as he said one final thing:

"Your belated remorse is worthless."

"If you're really sorry, then stay away from Scarlett from now on."

With that, the car sped off into the distance.

Ivo could only run after it desperately, unable to catch up.

It was Kinsley who finally stopped Ivo's mad dash.

She looked at his pathetic state with pity, begging him tearfully:

"Ivo, stop chasing them. They're long gone, you'll never catch up."

"It breaks my heart to see you like this." If placed in the past, Ivo would have patiently comforted Kinsley upon seeing her tear-stained face.

But this time, he didn't.

Instead, he angrily shoved Kinsley hard, knocking her down.

His voice was icy cold: "Wasn't it you who said that my corneas were bought with your money? Wasn't it you who claimed that Scarlett had blinded me?"

"What's the real truth here? What else are you hiding from me, making me look like a fool dancing to your tune, huh?"

At the mention of these things, Kinsley clearly panicked.

"Ivo, listen to me, it's not what you think. You have to believe me, no matter what happens, I will always love you. That will never change."

But Ivo just scoffed coldly and walked away alone.

"You make my skin crawl!"

Kinsley anxiously followed him, but Ivo showed no mercy, kicking Kinsley away.

"Stop following me."

"I can't guarantee I won't hit a woman."

Hearing this, Kinsley didn't dare move.

Ivo wandered the streets, searching for any sign of me.

Realizing he was like a headless chicken, he called his secretary to investigate.

At that time, I was still unconscious, unaware that Ivo was going crazy trying to find me.

I don't know how long I slept, but it felt like my entire life flashed before my eyes.

I realized that half a lifetime of hard work had amounted to nothing in the end.

The desire to remain in this hazy state grew stronger, but just then...

I heard a faint calling at the edge of my consciousness.

"Scarlett, Scarlett?"

I suddenly jolted awake.

Opening my eyes, I was blinded by a harsh light. After regaining my bearings, I finally saw Eliot's handsome face, streaked with tears.

Belatedly, I realized with shock that I could actually see again.

I mumbled to myself in disbelief.

"I can see?"
