Elias kept his word.
The next day, he walked into Sterling Enterprises and handed in his resignation letter. The CEO, Mr. Sterling, was surprised but respected Elias' decision.
Vanessa, however, was not pleased.
"You're really quitting because of her?" she scoffed, arms crossed as she blocked his path to the elevator.
Elias looked at her calmly. "No, I'm quitting because of me. I don't want to work somewhere that makes my wife uncomfortable."
Vanessa's jaw tightened. "She's manipulating you."
Elias shook his head. "No, Vanessa. She's loving me the way a wife should."
He stepped past her and into the elevator without another word, leaving Vanessa standing there, defeated.

Elias returned home that evening, relieved but also uncertain. He had no job now. His savings were running low. And though he didn't regret his decision, he felt like he was back at square one.
Lani greeted him with a warm smile and a tight hug.
"Thank you," she whispered.
He kissed her forehead. "For what?"
"For choosing us."
Lani didn't care about the money. She didn't care about the job. She only cared that Elias was finally putting his family first.
But Elias couldn't shake the feeling that he needed to do more.
---
A week later, while Lani was at work, Elias was out searching for job openings.
That's when he got a call from an unknown number.
"Hello?"
"Elias, it's Mr. Sterling."
Elias frowned. "Sir?"
"I heard you left because of my daughter." There was a pause. "I respect a man who puts his family first."
Elias stayed silent, unsure where this was going.
"I have a better job opportunity for you," Mr. Sterling continued. "One where you don't have to work under Vanessa. Something that fits your skills."
Elias blinked in surprise. "You're offering me another job?"
"Yes. A management position at one of my companies—higher pay, better benefits, and completely separate from Vanessa."
Elias hesitated. "Why would you do this for me?"
"Because I believe in rewarding hard work. And frankly, Vanessa could use a lesson in humility."
Elias let out a small chuckle. "I can't argue with that."
"Take the night to think about it," Mr. Sterling said. "But if you want stability for your family, this is it."
Elias hung up, staring at his phone in shock.
Could this be the fresh start he needed?
