A kaleidoscope pattern—somewhat similar to Uchiha Madara's—appeared in Uchiha Kiyo's eyes, slowly turning.
At this time, Uchiha Kiyo didn't have the luxury to admire his unique Mangekyō pattern.
No matter how it changed, surely it wouldn't look ugly, right?
Instead, he allocated a small portion of his chakra to maintain the flow of Yangyuan Gong, providing nourishment for his ocular cells and preventing cellular overdraw.
The remainder of his energy was devoted entirely to the evolution of his Sharingan.
This wasn't about any external manifestation—but rather a deeper, internal perception.
Uchiha Kiyo focused wholly on sensing the changes occurring within his eyes.
As the three tomoe spun violently, his consciousness was suddenly transported to a strange domain.
It was pitch black.
No—not exactly black.
There was an absence of matter here.
An emptiness that could only be described as… nothingness.
"What a mysterious place. Where am I? What are the rules here?"
Uchiha Kiyo remained calm, carefully observing his surroundings.
Unfortunately, the method of his entry into this place was unique.
Here, his actions were restricted. He could only perceive the void before him—everything else was veiled.
His movement wasn't physically blocked; he simply hadn't entered with his body.
Only his consciousness was present, perceiving a single direction in the infinite void.
"Although it's somewhat different from my expectations, it makes sense.
But there's no such scene in the original series…"
No one was there to answer him.
He was alone.
And yet, in this strange realm, his thoughts accelerated.
His cognitive clarity was sharper than ever. Before long, he came to a realization.
"Other Uchiha awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan through intense emotional trauma.
Their bodies were overtaxed. Their minds, overwhelmed.
Most barely remained conscious—let alone lucid enough to perceive a place like this."
"But I'm different. I knew exactly when the Mangekyō would awaken.
I prepared for it. I was well-rested. My body was in peak condition.
Even as my eyes devoured chakra, I replenished them instantly with Yangyuan Gong."
"As a result… I was granted this rare opportunity.
When my Mangekyō awakened, I entered this mysterious domain."
A spark of pride filled Uchiha Kiyo's heart.
He had done something no other Uchiha had accomplished.
An inexplicable sensation swelled within him.
Others suffered unbearable losses—killing their loved ones or watching them die—before unlocking the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Most descended into madness, while only a rare few lived long enough to master its power.
Yet Uchiha Kiyo had achieved this in just two years.
And he did so with barely any pain.
"Two years… Is that even a long time?"
Not really.
He decided to name this realm the "Place of Rules."
Here, despite being disembodied, he could still feel sensations from his physical self, and even exert minor control over it.
However, he sensed that dividing his focus too much would eject him from the space.
"That won't do. I still have work to do!"
Within his body, the burning in his eyes intensified.
As the three tomoe accelerated, spinning like whirlpools of chakra, Uchiha Kiyo suddenly saw it.
Before him appeared three massive paths—glistening with incomprehensible energy.
"Are these the rules? Do they really manifest like this?"
That was his first thought.
But then he understood:
"No… Rules don't have a physical form.
This must be how my mind interprets them.
I've always likened rules to 'Dao'—conceptual paths—so this is how I perceive them."
"Rules are everywhere, woven into the fabric of the ninja world.
In truth, they should look more like… a web."
With that realization, the scene changed in his mind.
The massive paths did not physically shift—but now, he saw them differently.
A giant web spread before him.
Not just one—multiple, overlapping webs.
Each "rule" formed a strand, distinct yet deeply interconnected.
"Yes… This makes more sense."
He reverted the web back into the "Dao" form.
It was easier that way—to follow distinct paths than to decipher a chaotic network.
His thoughts grew deeper as he gazed into the ethereal constructs.
"There must be countless rules shaping the shinobi world.
Chakra alone involves many layers of rules.
The overall structure must be vast… and terribly complex."
Then, through observation, he noticed something strange.
Even though he perceived the rules as "paths,"
there was an underlying network still present—a lattice woven beneath the Dao.
Yet some parts of this network appeared… incomplete.
There were gaps where information seemed to be missing.
"It's not that the rules are flawed—it's that my perception is limited."
"No… That's not entirely correct."
"I'm not perceiving these through my own power…"
"The Sharingan…"
Suddenly, he understood.
The Sharingan—his bloodline's sacred dojutsu—was the very thing allowing him to perceive these rules.
"Why these rules, though? Why not others?"
"Because my Sharingan has a natural affinity with them.
They align with the abilities I've already developed… or perhaps with the powers I subconsciously desire."
The nature of awakening played a role.
When Itachi awakened Mangekyō, he gained Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu—tools of illusion and destruction.
When Obito lost Rin, Kamui awakened—allowing him to escape from reality.
The Sharingan responded to emotion.
But Uchiha Kiyo?
He had no overwhelming emotions at that moment.
He felt calm.
Detached.
His mind was not clouded, and so, the Sharingan did not forcibly imprint a rule upon him.
Instead—it gave him a choice.
"Could that be why I'm here?"
"Not just because I had enough chakra… but because I hadn't yet chosen?"
"That makes sense…"
The burning in his eyes surged again.
A warning. He had to choose. Now.
He turned his attention back to the paths.
Fire.
Earth.
Water.
Wind.
Lightning.
Lava.
Ice.
Wood.
Life.
Killing…
He accepted chakra-related rules easily—those were foundational.
Even Life made sense.
But then—Killing?
Would choosing that path make him a murderer?
"No… That's not it."
His eyes moved on—and locked onto something strange.
Destiny.
"Huh? Why is this here?
This is the Naruto universe—not some world of divine prophecy."
But upon closer inspection…
"No… This isn't destiny. It's time-related."
A different rule entirely—one that had clearly been discovered and shaped by someone before him.
And then he saw another:
The Rule of Six Paths.
His breath caught.
"This… must be tied to the Sage of Six Paths…"
He didn't have much time.
His Sharingan was stabilizing. The window was closing.
He had to choose.
Uchiha Kiyo swept his eyes across the many paths again.
And then—he made his decision.
The Rule of Destiny.
The Rule of Six Paths.
As he exited the Place of Rules, his mind was flooded with new knowledge.
His Mangekyō Sharingan solidified.
Its power—now aligned.
He had chosen his path.
