The Caribou robot, its metallic body gleaming under the pale light of dawn, watched as Lania swiftly sketched a spider in her hand. With a fluid motion, the spider sprang to life, sliding from her palm to the ground, where it grew to the size of a mechanical animal.
"Wow! You really are an artist," Josh exclaimed, his eyes wide as saucers. "The spider you drew looks real, like one of those giant tarantulas from horror movies." His voice trembled slightly as he added, "But... why does it have rainbow colors? And that smiling cloud on its abdomen... it's unsettling."
"Hey! Thanks," Lania replied, tilting her head modestly as she stepped between Josh and the Caribou. "It's my special touch, something that makes the artist stand out."
"You mean like a signature or a trademark?" Josh asked, rubbing his hands together to warm them.
"Yeah, yeah... something like that," she murmured, avoiding his gaze. Her focus was already on the battle ahead.
The spider, though made of ink, was as tangible as any living creature. Its long, segmented legs shimmered with iridescent hues, and the subtle sound of its movements evoked the crunch of dry leaves beneath a predator's weight. It faced the robotic Caribou without hesitation, using its limbs to block the animal's massive antlers as they tried to ram it with ferocity. Metal clashed against hardened ink, producing an echo that reverberated through the cold air.
"Alright, I think that's enough... and I'm just getting warmed up," Lania said with a half-smile, her fingers nervously playing with the edge of her scarf.
The Caribou, furious, seemed to emit steam from its ears as it attempted to advance, but the spider held its ground.
"Yeah! Go, Spider, beat that thing!" Josh cheered from behind, his words brimming with youthful enthusiasm. The Caribou's growl thundered like a distant storm, shaking the atmosphere.
"It's time to finish this," Lania declared, pointing at the robot with determination. The spider obeyed instantly, opening its massive jaws to attack. But just as victory seemed within reach, two robotic grizzly bears burst into the fray, roaring with a blood-chilling ferocity. The spider retreated, forced to defend itself against three fronts simultaneously.
"Damn, more enemies," Lania muttered under her breath, her face tense. At that moment, a robotic Arctic fox darted past her, tearing a sleeve from her coat and revealing an intricate gallery of tattoos on her left arm.
"Are you okay?" Josh asked, concerned.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. It just ripped my coat," she responded quickly, though her tone hinted at something deeper beneath her apparent calm.
"Wow! Those are some cool tattoos!" Josh exclaimed, momentarily forgetting the danger surrounding them. "You've got a cat, a dog... and that weird thing— is it some kind of snake-lion hybrid or something?"
"Yeah, right!" Lania flashed a brief smile before regaining her serious expression. "But this isn't the time to admire my friends. It's time to use them."
"Your friends?" Josh repeated, confused.
Before he could say anything more, the tattoos on Lania's arm sprang to life, emerging from her skin as if they were dormant creatures awakening from a long hibernation. A white dog with razor-sharp fangs, a cat the size of the fox, and a snake-lion chimera materialized before them, their bodies vibrating with magical energy.
"That's what I meant by 'my friends,'" Lania explained, crossing her arms.
"That's next-level stuff," Josh admitted, his eyes gleaming with awe. "I wish I could help, but I still haven't recovered my energy, and besides... it's freezing out here." His voice trembled as he rubbed his hands together in an attempt to generate warmth.
"Of course, only you would go half-naked in a place where it's below ten degrees," Lania retorted with a teasing smile, though her gaze remained fixed on the battle unfolding before them.
"Yeah, I know," Josh muttered, his teeth chattering.
"Alright, guys, it's your time to shine," Lania announced, her voice firm yet charged with emotion. Each creature that had emerged from her tattoos bore a unique hallmark: the dog sported tiny glasses perched on its snout; the cat had burning red eyes like embers, and the chimera displayed a vibrant rainbow coursing along its back like a river of light.
"You added doodles to all of them too," Josh observed in amazement, pointing at the creatures.
"It's a signature, like I said," Lania replied proudly. "So they know it's my work."
Without further ado, the tattooed animals lunged into battle, confronting the robots with ferocity. The cat, agile and lethal, engaged in a deadly dance with the robotic fox, while the dog charged one of the grizzly bears with surprising strength. The chimera, for its part, faced the second bear, its roars thundering through the icy air like rolling storms.
"That'll do it," Lania murmured, watching confidently as her creations fought hand-to-hand against the mechanical beasts. The robots faltered under the relentless pressure of the magical beings, their clumsy movements no match for the fluidity of the living creatures.
But just as victory seemed within reach, the robots exchanged what looked like an almost intelligent glance before beginning to merge. Their metallic bodies fused in a shower of sparks and smoke, forming a colossal figure: an enormous eight-meter-tall moose, its antlers gleaming like sharpened daggers under the dim light. With a deafening roar, the metal giant crushed Lania's creations as if they were insignificant toys.
"No, my friends!" Lania screamed, her eyes flooded with fury and pain. "You'll pay dearly for that, you damn machine!"
The moose, towering and menacing, advanced toward them with steps that shook the earth. Josh, seeing the imminent danger, yanked Lania to the side just in time, shielding her from the devastating sweep of the moose's antlers, which uprooted entire trees as if they were blades of grass.
"Are you okay?" Josh asked, concerned, as he slowly released her.
Lania flushed as she realized she had been pressed against the boy's bare chest. "Yes," she replied quickly, pulling away with a sharp movement and avoiding his gaze.
"Hey, if you can make those... things..." Josh remarked, gesturing to the surrounding chaos.
"They're not things," Lania shot back, irritated. Her tone made it clear that these creatures were far more than mere inventions.
"Alright, your friends," he conceded with a mischievous grin. "So, can you make me some new clothes?"
"Huh?" Lania looked at him dubiously, thrown off by the sudden change of subject.
"Just say yes or no," Josh insisted, crossing his arms.
"Well… in theory, yes," she admitted, though her furrowed brow revealed her skepticism. "But what are you planning?"
Josh gave her an enigmatic smile before responding, "I think I have no other choice. I'll have to act." His expression shifted abruptly, turning serious. "With the little mana I have left, it should be enough," he muttered under his breath.
Suddenly, his body began to tremble. A guttural scream escaped his throat as his skin became covered in dark brown fur. His muscles expanded, tearing apart the remnants of the clothes he still wore. A bushy tail sprouted from his back, and his nails transformed into razor-sharp claws. His scream morphed into a chilling howl, echoing through the forest like an ancient call.
When the transformation ended, Josh was no longer human. Standing before Lania was a werewolf with brown fur, its golden eyes glowing with a mix of ferocity and determination under the moonlight. His voice, now deep and gravelly, sent a shiver down her spine.
"Don't worry, it's still me," he assured her, though his appearance suggested otherwise. "I'll handle this, but I need you to use your power to create something that'll immobilize that giant."
Lania could only nod, unable to form words. She had never witnessed Josh's transformation up close, and the sight was both awe-inspiring and terrifying.
"What a nightmare," she whispered to herself, hugging her arms as shivers ran through her body. She had seen many strange things in her life, but this was different. This was something she would never forget.
Josh's nails were no longer nails but long, sharp claws capable of tearing through metal with ease. His eyes glowed with deep black irises, red pupils like burning embers, and yellow sclera that seemed to smolder under the dim forest light. He licked his fangs with a rough tongue before darting forward with superhuman speed. With precise movements, he used his claws to climb the robotic moose, scaling its metallic body as if it were a living mountain. His goal was clear: reach the creature's head. Perhaps it was intuition, or maybe his wolf instincts were guiding him, Lania thought as she watched the scene in amazement.
"Hey! Lania, what are you waiting for? Stop him!" shouted the boy-turned-werewolf, though his words came out more like a deep growl. "Or should I say wolf-boy, ha, ha... depending on how you look at it," he added, half-joking, though his tone remained menacing.
Lania shook her head, trying to focus. Quickly, she removed her other glove, revealing small snake tattoos on each of her fingers. She knew what she had to do. "I need to make them big so they can help us," she murmured to herself. "But that'll drain my mana… I need to save some." A part of her mind wandered briefly. I don't want Josh running around naked, she thought, and a blush crept up her cheeks. She shook her head again, annoyed with herself. "What nonsense I'm thinking... Now's not the time for that. It's time to act."
Meanwhile, Josh continued trying to gouge a hole into the robotic moose's skull. But the gigantic creature wasn't about to give up so easily. Its antlers began transforming into sharp harpoons, firing toward him like lethal projectiles. Josh dodged with superhuman speed, but one of the harpoons struck his leg, piercing through his flesh. With a pained roar, he severed the cable holding the harpoon and yanked it out of his body. Surprisingly, the wound began to close almost instantly, as if his new form possessed regenerative properties.
"Damn robot... you'll pay for that!" Josh growled, resolute. He renewed his assault on the same spot with heightened ferocity, hammering away repeatedly like a human—or rather, lupine—can opener.
Lania, on the other hand, unleashed the five snake tattoos on her fingers, making them grow to an impressive size. With a firm gesture, she sent four of them toward the robotic moose's legs. The serpents coiled around the metallic limbs, pulling in opposite directions with tremendous force. The enormous mechanical beast began to wobble, struggling to maintain its balance until it finally collapsed with a deafening crash.
The fifth serpent, however, she kept at its normal size. Small, yes, but also quick and precise. The pink snake slithered up the moose's back with feline agility, heading toward its head where Josh was still battling the unyielding metal.
"Come on, little one! Protect him!" Lania shouted, referring to Josh. Though she knew the boy was stubborn, she also realized he was risking everything to stop that machine.
The snake arrived just in time. It saw the harpoons preparing to fire again at Josh. Without hesitation, it leaped straight ahead, wrapping itself tightly around all the cables from tail to near the head. With a swift motion, it redirected the harpoons elsewhere, shielding the werewolf from a fatal fate.
Josh, his voice thick and guttural due to his transformation, growled in frustration: "Why won't you break already, you damn tin can? I think I need to apply more force." He let out a powerful howl that echoed through the icy air. His claws grew even longer, becoming weapons as sharp as steel. With a fierce roar, he plunged his claws into the weak point he'd been attacking and pulled with all his might, finally tearing through the metal. He climbed inside the breach, searching for the moose's core system.
A moment later, he emerged from one of the robot's eyes, clutching a handful of chips in his hands. Crushing them with a sharp motion, the robotic moose shut down completely, lying lifeless on the forest floor.
With a great leap, Josh descended from the inert body of the robotic moose, landing with a solid thud on the snow-covered ground. He glanced over at Lania, raising a thumb in approval. "Good work!" he exclaimed with a tired smile before collapsing, falling unconscious. His body slowly began to change back, reverting to its human form.
Lania rushed toward him, worried, but as she got closer, her cheeks flushed red when she realized Josh was completely naked. "Oh no... he's naked!" she muttered, quickly averting her gaze while trying to control her blush. Without wasting a moment, she sketched a blanket with a swift motion of her hand and signaled one of her snakes to drape it over him. She also left some basic clothing she had just drawn beside him.
When Josh woke up, feeling the biting cold around him, he noticed the blanket covering him. He sat up with difficulty, his body still weak, and looked over at Lania, who remained turned away, avoiding his gaze.
"Put those clothes on, you pervert," she said dryly, though her voice betrayed a hint of discomfort.
Josh glanced down and realized his state. He blushed intensely, grabbed the clothes she had drawn, and quickly put them on. Once dressed, he approached her, nervously scratching the back of his neck.
"We should get moving fast to somewhere we can find real clothes," Lania commented without looking directly at him. "What I create doesn't last long." With that, she sketched a sturdy, functional snowmobile. They climbed on immediately and sped off, leaving behind the battlefield and the remains of the robotic moose.
In Nigeria, in a coastal city of Lagos surrounded by sea and towering buildings that seemed to float like artificial islands, something strange occurred. One of the tallest skyscrapers suddenly split in its upper section. The structure began tilting toward the water, dragging dozens of trapped people inside with it. Desperate screams filled the air as the occupants cried out for help, fearing certain death in the ocean's depths.
Just as the tower was about to collapse into the sea, something extraordinary emerged from the waters. A gigantic skeletal hand rose from the waves and halted the building's descent. The cries of terror transformed into gasps of astonishment mixed with panic. The people, now suspended midair thanks to the bony hand, began murmuring among themselves, wondering if they had escaped drowning only to face an even more terrifying fate.
"Stay calm, I'm here," a feminine voice resonated—soft yet authoritative. Before them appeared a hooded figure, cloaked in a black robe that billowed in the wind. She seemed to have materialized out of thin air, as if Death herself had been personified. Her presence commanded respect, and though her face remained hidden beneath the hood, her eyes glowed with an ethereal light that struck fear into those present.
