Beneath Winters Manor, Magical Britain [31st October, 1980]
–Scott Winters–
"I am Athena. My purpose is to help you assimilate your inheritance. Please confirm if you wish to proceed."
The voice said, for the nth time as he sat on the comfortable lounge chair, looking at the bonfire, wondering what to do now. As if on autopilot, he replied once the speakers stopped repeating the same message.
"What is the inheritance that you speak of?" The same question that he had been repeating for who knows how long, despite not getting a concrete answer.
"I am Athena. My purpose is to help you assimilate your inheritance. Please confirm if you wish to proceed."
He groaned in frustration as he threw his head back, looking at the ceiling, which had a nice wooden finish to it. He wondered if it was real or not because the chair, despite looking like it was made of leather and was uncomfortable, felt like soft wool and he just sank into it once he sat his ass down.
"What is the inheritance that you speak of?" He said, once again, trying to get some measure of what this inheritance would be. He has always been a wary wizard, paranoia was his motto because people out in the world really were out to get him and the only way to stay ahead of anyone looking for him was to be paranoid, to the extreme.
He didn't get this far by just trusting the words of a clearly recorded message coming from a dubious ship that may or may not be of extraterrestrial origin. He chuckled as he thought of all the reports and articles he saw of clear alien activity and UFOs and stuff. Back then, he thought of the reports being accidental sightings of clear wizard activities, something that needed to be investigated before magic was further exposed to the No-Maj population.
To think that he himself would turn out part alien was….shocking to say the least.
"I am Athena. My purpose is to help you assimilate your inheritance. Please confirm if you wish to proceed."
"Oh, shut up!"
"I am Athena. My purpose–"
"What will happen if I verbally confirm the inheritance that you speak of? He asked with gritted teeth.
There was a clear pause in between as if the machine was thinking, which was absurd, "Once Scott Winters accepts the inheritance, two things shall happen. The soul of Scott Winters will be introduced to certain memories that will help him assimilate the memories better, and a short video and audio briefing will be given to better understand the circumstances of your life." The voice spoke, with a clearly more humane voice, nothing like the old robotic voice it had before.
"Huh," He said to himself as he began pacing in front of the fireplace. Some memories, and then a briefing? Like a movie?
This just got a whole lot more complicated but he had a feeling that this ship would not hurt him and besides if Nathaniel really had that sort of intent towards him, he would have felt it.
Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and centred his mind, thinking of all the things he had done with his magic, of how close he had come to death several times and how, each and every time, he had gotten out of each fight, alive and well to live another day, all thanks to the unique powers he had, powers that no one else in the entire Wizarding World had right now or were recorded having.
It was safe to say that what Nathaniel was saying must have some merit, or else there would have been someone out there with the same powers as him. The fact that he could use his powers with so little magic, relative to the output of the spell, was ridiculous enough but that the same magic could also cut through, or rather, burn through every single piece of magic out there, that led some credence to Nathaniel's words about his mother being an outsider, an otherworlder if he remembered correctly.
With a steely glint in his eyes, he looked straight ahead, in the direction of the door, that led to somewhere, and said, "Initiate the process."
There was a pause before blue veins of light began criss crossing across the floor before the entire floor pulsed a deep dark red, flooding his vision with red before it all went dark.
The next time he opened his eyes, he found himself lying down, on some soft grass, looking at the light blue sky. He shot up the next moment, wand in hand, or rather, he tried to get his wand but failed to get it as none of his equipment was on his person at the moment, including his two wands, two knives, his knuckle dusters, his taser, and even his emergency poison powders were all absent from his clothing. He had specialised clothing made by his contacts back in the States that accommodated all his weaponry whilst also making it easily accessible.
Looking around, all he could see were swathes of green as far as his vision could reach and the light blue sky. Nothing more.
"Hello, Scott." He turned around, hands raised in a combat stance, only to relax as he found nothing there. So, it was that voice again.
"Now what? I initiated the process. What's the next step?" He asked out loud, since the robotic voice did tell him that it was a two part process.
"The briefing of your birth shall begin now."
Briefing of the birth? His brows furrowed before they widened in horror as he all but screamed, "Nooo!" He didn't want to see his birth. That would be traumatising in all the wrong ways.
His vision darkened before a pretty lady appeared on the screen. He immediately froze as he instinctively knew that this lady was his mother. Red hair that had all gone white at the roots. His heart twisted as he saw the state of her being. She was all bloodied, her face was gaunt and her cheeks were sunken but he somehow knew that this woman was pretty, very pretty when she was not on the verge of death.
She was in some sort of metallic cabin with blood littering her entire combat uniform as she waved her arms back and forth all around her, releasing little gusts of red flames that sputtered out as soon as they reached a certain distance away from her hands.
As if knowing what his next question would be, the video feed zoomed away, showing a rather familiar ship that was hurtling through what looked like space but had far too many stars near the ship for his liking. MACUSA had an entire division dedicated to the study of the stars, just in case divination ever became an art for the masses so he knew more about space than 90% of the world's population but even still, he knew that his mother was not going through normal space.
It was far less volatile and most definitely did not contain growing waves of dark blue that seemed to be chasing his mother's ships. He could see her struggle as every wave of her hands created a large wave of fire that seemed to vaporise the blue wave but the blue energy wave seemed to be never ending, reforming as soon as the red fire sputtered out of existence.
The situation was clear to him. The blue wave seemed infinite and his mother most definitely did not have infinite energy to do…that. He realised that if he was reading this correctly, his mother was a being on a whole other level, like level the planet with ease, level.
That was the level of damage her attacks were causing as she became more and more desperate to escape those blue waves that seemed to be hell bent on reaching his mother. In the end, what he feared came to pass as his mother seemed to have exhausted her energy and could not create continuous flames that could stop the blue wave, and part of the blue wave ended up slamming into the rear of her ship, sending her ship tumbling even further.
In a last act of desperation, his mother lashed out with all her might, releasing a truly titanic wave of flames. He was pretty sure that he saw a star being obliterated by her flames before the flames reached the blue wave and destroyed that as well. It was clear that had his mother been in proper shape, she could have easily fought her way out but the way she was clutching her stomach now, he had an inkling of her state of injury at that moment.
That giant wave of flames seemed to have stopped the blue wave for the moment but his mother was still tumbling uncontrollably through space. His eyes narrowed as he saw her place both her hands on the deck before flames began surrounding the entire ship, creating a flaming construct all around the ship.
He saw the blue waves coming back from the corner of his vision but by the time the waves could come closer, a glowing hole made up of the rainbow appeared in front of the flaming ship as it crashed into the portal.
Then the view changed. He squinted as he saw the familiar green and blue Earth coming closer and closer until the city of London became visible to him, the giant visage of Big Ben finally being useful for something, right up until the ship crashed into the snow and dragged itself across the snow-filled land, creating a giant crater all around it.
"That was how Jean found her way to this universe. The universe where you were born." The same voice from before, the voice of Athena spoke as the video feed ended there.
He had so many questions that it was not even funny.
