Her hands ran along the wall, searching for any irregularities. Then, near the baseboard, she found it—a small panel slightly loose to the touch. Prying it open revealed a narrow compartment filled with folded papers and photographs.

Her heart raced as she pulled them out one by one. Most were innocuous—old receipts, faded postcards—but one stood out: a single sheet of paper bearing handwritten text.

"Yeah, just tired," she replied quickly, avoiding his gaze.

They worked in silence for a while, but Evelyn's mind was elsewhere. Every time Liam moved or spoke, she flinched, worried he might notice something off about her behavior.

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she excused herself and fled to her car, clutching the note tightly in her hand.
