A heartbeat of silence.
Then—the first one lunged.
Lu Yan moved before it reached him.
His blade sang through the night, cutting clean through flesh and bone. Blood misted the air. The beast never touched the ground alive.
DING!
[You have slain a Level 5 Moonshade Beast.]
[XP +1000]
The pack howled.
Then—they charged.
Shadows surged forward. Claws. Teeth. Malice.
Lu Yan raised his hand. The forest answered.
The ground split apart. Roots erupted like living serpents, lashing, twisting, impaling. A beast was lifted into the air, its body snapping like a twig before it even had a chance to scream. Another was pulled under, swallowed by the earth itself.
DING!

[You have slain a Level 6 Moonshade Beast.]
[XP +1500]
But they were learning.
A Level 7 warrior broke through, its movements sharper, smarter. It twisted through the roots, dodging the grasping vines with inhuman precision. It adapted.
Then—it vanished.
Lu Yan's instincts screamed. Behind you.
He turned—just in time.
The beast was mid-air, claws aiming straight for his throat.
Lu Yan's eyes burned.
Forest Manifestation.
The world obeyed.
Trees groaned, bark splitting apart. Jagged spears burst forth. The beast's trajectory shifted—just slightly, just enough.
Lu Yan moved. His blade cut once.
The creature collapsed.
DING!
[You have slain a Level 7 Moonshade Beast.]
[XP +2500]
Another came. Another fell.
The last of the pack was dead.
And yet—the air was wrong.
Colder. Heavier.
The leader had arrived.
A presence descended on the battlefield, suffocating in its weight.
The mist coiled tighter. The night seemed to bend.
Then—it stepped forward.
Level 8.
The beast was massive, a shadow forged of sinew and muscle, moving like liquid darkness. Its silver gaze locked onto him—not with rage, not with instinct.
With understanding.
It studied him.
Then—it grinned.
Lu Yan felt something cold coil around his spine.
This thing was different.
The beast disappeared.
Not a step. Not a leap. Gone.
Then—pain.
The impact hit like a mountain, sending him crashing through trees. Bark shattered around him as his body rolled to a stop. His ribs screamed. Blood dripped from his mouth.
Fast.
Too fast.
The beast was already there.
It loomed over him, its grin widening. It had won.
Lu Yan wiped the blood from his lips. He stood.
The beast moved.
Lu Yan moved faster.
His blade lashed out. The beast dodged—but the forest did not let it.
Roots surged from the earth, twisting around its limbs. The trees closed in, their jagged spears aiming downward. The earth beneath its feet broke apart.
The beast snarled.
Lu Yan's sword pierced its skull.
The body jerked.
Then—stillness.
DING!
[You have slain a Level 8 Moonshade Beast.]
[XP +5000]
The air shifted.
The mist began to lift. The forest belonged to him again.
Lu Yan exhaled, wiping the blood from his blade.
