JANE
His face turned red as he trained his blazing eyes on me, and a muscle in his jaw twitched.
Sofia and James showed me the true nature of Rosario when I was too naive to understand his manipulative ways. They saved me and my family from falling into his trap.
My brother Jake would have been working under Rosario if not for James and Sofia. I could never let any harm come their way because of me.
"Jane! You know I'll take you at any cost. You are mine. You aren't getting out of this tonight."
I stuck my chin up in the air.
"I don't plan to. Either I'll go with you or I'll die right here."
"What do you mean?" A deep frown etched on his face.
"Forget about your revenge on the Andersons and I'll come with you, willingly. Touch a strand of hair on any one of them and you'll see me die tonight. Your obsession will end with my death. The choice is yours."
Right at this moment, a part of me wished for Dominic to miraculously come here and save all of us from this nightmare.
But the sane part of me never wanted to see his face again, even if I was about to die. He was just as bad.
"Jane." There was a threatening edge to his voice. "You are not in a position to demand anything from me."
"Oh. But I am. See this gun in my hand. I'll shoot myself. And it's not an empty threat. These people have protected me and my family for so many years. This is the least I can do for them."
"Jane. Don't do this. James and Chris will be here soon," Sofia pleaded, trying to change my mind.
But I knew, right now, no one could do anything. He had all the cards on his side and I had just one thing which could help us…help them, getting the upper hand.
That was me, and I wasn't going to pass this chance up if it meant taking them out of this trouble, once and for all.
I smiled sadly at Sofia as the girls watched me, concern etched all over their faces. They wanted to help, but they couldn't do anything.
"Choose." I looked dead in his eyes.
He gritted his teeth while glaring at me, seconds turned to minutes, the silence prickling my skin, and my hand ached from holding the gun up for so long.
"I know you. You don't love anyone except yourself. You didn't love your brother. All this revenge shit you are doing, it's nothing but your ego.
You want me, right? Fine. I'll come with you. But are you ready to let go of your ego or should I shoot?"
"Don't you dare," he shouted and moved forward but stopped when I pointed a finger at him.
"Stop right there or I'll shoot. I am not afraid of death."
His chest heaved up and down as he glared at me and finally, he let out a frustrated sigh.
"Fine. I won't bother them again," he spoke begrudgingly, turning his icy gaze towards Sofia and Sheena and a look of pure disdain crossed his face while I let out a soft sigh.
Time for me to go back to hell.
I didn't know what the future had in store for me, but I'd have to face it. Yes, I could and I would.
I shut my eyes as a tear slipped down my cheek, images of Mom, Jake and Dom flashed before me, making me open my eyes with a snap. I couldn't let myself be weak.
.....
Dark tarmac stretched before me as I stood there in a stolen, blood-stained outfit and without any of my personal belongings. The cold air seeped into my fingers like ice shards and a sense of foreboding lingered in the night air.
Rosario's tall frame loomed over me like a shadow, his gaze not straying too far while his soldiers flitted around, getting his private aircraft ready for flight.
"Will you please put it on?" Rosario drawled lazily.
My body was numb from the cold, chilly air biting into my skin but I refused to take his jacket, the only lifeline that could save me from this cold.
"How many times do I have to tell you, I don't need it?" I whispered angrily without looking at him.
He grabbed my arm and pulled me against him, making me flinch. I tried to prey his hand away but his grip was too strong.
"Don't give me that sass, understand? You were always mine and it's time you accept the reality." He glared at me and I glared back.
"Do you see your name etched anywhere on my face? No? Guess what, I am not yours." I ground my teeth so hard, I thought they'd come out of my gums.
His other hand went to my waist and I squirmed in disgust. He pulled me even closer, his nose less than an inch away from mine. I turned my face away to avoid the proximity.
"Listen, you. Don't try to be smart with me. Don't forget our deal or I'll make the Andersons vanish from the face of the earth."
"I am not going anywhere. But that doesn't mean I'll ever be yours, you monster," I spat.
His expression shifted and his lips sneered in anger. His eyes were red, and his chest heaved, scaring me a little.
In a blink, he leaned forward and I flinched, jerking my head away, my heart leapt out of my throat. His face landed on my shoulder and he bit hard on the exposed skin of my neck. It stung and I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from screaming.
"Leave me, you bastard." I raised my leg and my knee connected with his balls, earning a painful grunt, followed by a string of curses.
"Ow..urghh..motherfucking bitch…"
I tuned him out as he left me with a shove before grabbing his balls and turning his back to me.
"Boss." One of his soldiers walked towards us, and Rosario stood straight in an instant, his face red from pain but he still kept his expression stoic.
Serves you right.
I turned to look at the sleek aircraft looming over us, ready to take me away from everything and everyone I had come to love in this country. A sense of loss settled over me and my heart kept drowning and drowning.
I made sure he let everyone go home safely and made a blood oath with him for their safety in exchange for me.
Blood oath was sacred in the mafia world, which they couldn't break at any cost unless one party died. I heard about it from Dominic but I never thought it could come in handy.
Suddenly, I was hurled forward and turned around to see Rosario behind me.
"What?" I spat.
"Let's go. I'll teach you a lesson later. Just wait until we reach home." He grabbed my arm once again and hurled me forward.
I jerked my arm away and pointed a finger at his face.
"Don't you touch me. I can walk."
"You are lucky, I still want you. Or that finger would have been lying on the ground right now," he spoke in a low growl.
"Yeah. That's why I call you a monster. MONSTER," I shouted on his face before turning around and walking ahead, towards the aircraft.
He could kill me for all I care. I wasn't afraid of death anymore. Why would I, when I had already lost everyone? But unfortunately, I knew he'd not kill me. He'd rather torture me mentally and emotionally.
We left the Blue Diamond hotel in a chopper and I had no idea where it landed us and which airport we were at right now. He met some people at some shady place before coming here, but I was so lost that I ignored everything.
Entering the private jet, I ignored the two immaculately dressed air hostesses welcoming me inside and took a seat by the window. The luxurious interior and the warm air inside did nothing to ease my heart.
Rosario and his men followed soon after, looking like vultures circling their prey, their auras making me feel claustrophobic. I turned my head to look outside to avoid their gazes.
"Get up. You are sitting with me."
I shut my eyes and took a deep breath, but didn't turn to him.
"You wish."
"Don't test my patience, Jane. You are with me now, for life and you'll listen to me."
"I won't. Do whatever you want."
"Do you want me to kill your beloved Dominic?"
My heart skipped a beat and I turned my head with a snap.
"Don't you dare." I glared at him. Dominic wasn't just anyone. He had way more power and reach than Rosario, but that didn't stop my heart from worrying about his safety.
"I will," he said with conviction.
My patience with him was running thin, and it was taking all my willpower to stop myself from choking him to death.
No matter how mad I was with Dom, I'd never let anyone harm him. Not that he needed any protection, let alone from me. But still.
"You know what? If you were capable of killing him, you'd have done it by now. So, don't try to fool me. I am not that naive girl you knew once."
A muscle in his jaw twitched as he looked like he was staring into my soul.
"Oh! How I loved that naive Jane. But don't worry, I'll bring my naive and obedient Jane back, sooner or later." His lips curled into an evil smirk.
"Dream on." I rolled my eyes before looking outside once again, completely ignoring his presence.
I could sense his presence as I looked outside at the dark sky, until he left, and I let out a relieved sigh. I had no idea how long I could keep myself safe from his advances but I would do anything to not let him touch me for as long as I could.
