Chapter 27 - One Problem After Another

I blinked my eyes twice, my hands on the back of my head. "What?!" Don't tell me monsters have overtaken the airport. If Barry would meet another creature at the same level as the Amaru, he might be in serious trouble.

Michelle shook her head and said, "I'll call him." She waited for a few seconds when Barry answered.

Barry's head popped out of the screen, people of different nationalities expressing their anger for being unable to disembark the plane.

"Hey babe" Greeting his fiancee. He looks fatigued from the long trip, but seeing us able to arrive safely has boosted his spirits. "They didn't explain to us why we're here. But..." His eyes focused towards the front of the plane.

"I think the airport's been seized." Barry said, standing up, his neck watching the commotion in front of him.

"Your plane's been hijacked?!" Michelle almost shrieked in realization. She darted her eyes at a distance in worry. Tapping one of the police officer's to accompany her to the airport.

They stood up abruptly, knowing they'll be called again. The cleanup hasn't been finished and there is equipment needed to be transferred.

"Don't worry, Barry can handle it." I generated less steeper slopes for the transport of supplies. "But he would need us for him to get around. This is unfamiliar territory anyway."

We split into groups. This time Michelle and Raymond will be going to the airport. While me and the rest will remain to ensure that the hospital is alright on its own, while we visit the new tower.

The policemen accompanied us to the nearest tower which we can utilize in order to go home. I already contracted the police to stay with us so, I can have an allied contact in South America.

From a far, the tower is surrounded by barricades and sentries. Armed military men with an outpost and drones checking the surroundings with its beaming light.

The policeman called someone through his phone and a guy in uniform emerged from the bottom of the wooden outpost. The old guy looks gruff and serious looking wearing a woodland camo.

He took us in, but not until he stealthily received the item he got from the police. Not another word, he motioned us in, through a hut that covers an underground tunnel. There are other men in uniform whose eyes are fixated on us.

I spared a glance at one of them and the guy fixed the rifle slung on his shoulders like a warning. The outposts were several meters ahead and so is the helicopter hovering in the night sky.

When we arrived, I spotted the tower and a person I thought I wouldn't be able to see, Catarina...

The officer who got us in, paled upon seeing her. He immediately went on his knees, bowing his head profusely. This is a different Catarina I saw from the past. That girl was more carefree and like a tomboy wearing t-shirts and denim shorts with holes in them.

What is in front of me was a business woman, with a stern look on her face. She immediately slapped the old man for letting strangers in the restricted area.

She then, turned to face me. "Bring these people to detention and don't let anyone bring them food or water until I say so."

I smirked and stopped Fae before she spoke her mind. "The same way your brothers have confined you for your disease?" She froze on the spot. Her chin tightened, because until she was free from her family she hasn't confided with anyone about the abuse she has suffered from her family.

She narrowed her eyes at me, letting out the blade tucked from her skirt and pressed it on my neck. "Did you come for me? Did one of my brothers or relatives send you?"

Zild tapped her shoulder and she lost the strength on her arms that her blade fell. The officer pulled out his gun, his hand shaking, asking Zild what happened. I let out a shot of ice from my hand to disarm the panicked man and he fell on his butt.

The police that came with us, stood between me and the old military guy. He shook his head as if to warn him to stay put.

"I can help you Catarina, but you must do everything I say from here on onwards." I picked up the knife from the ground and held it towards her, but before she can get it back, I froze it and it shattered. "You can inherit the company with no problems."

She laughs, a bitter one at that "Yeah, well news flash buddy, there's no cure for G6PD. The heiress of a soy company with G6PD! How ironic!" Her eyes didn't reflect her forced jubilance on the matter.

I raised my hands in mock surrender, "Okay, we will walk away without a deal. You can also say goodbye to the magical bunny we were supposed to give you."

Fae and Zild turned their backs and I was about to follow suit. When she clung unto my arm and said, "What? Were you the one who's supposed to give me that bunny?" Her demaenor has completely changed, she became joyous all of a sudden.

••••••••••••••••

She brought us into her tent and said someone has asked her to go here. She wanted to make sure that there's no assasination attempt waiting for here here. So, it took a while for her to reply to Michele's messages.

I told her that we thought she has utterly refused, that's why we chose another route. She handed us a pitcher of cold tea and took a sip first, showing it's not poisoned nor tainted.

"You said, you'd help me, but why?" In her life, she knows nobody offers anything for free. If the trade is fair, I know she'll cave in.
