The entire afternoon, Bibi Dong issued various orders in the grand hall while also announcing the crimes of Torres and his group to the other members of the Spirit Hall in Suotuo City.
"For now, all of you are to remain at your posts and refrain from receiving any visitors. I will write a letter immediately. Once His Holiness the Pope sends a new bishop, we will officially resume our duties," Bibi Dong declared.
"Captain Hei Shang, how is everything on your end?" Bibi Dong inquired.
"Your Highness, the Saintess, I have already imprisoned Torres and his men. Their cultivation has been completely crippled, and they will be transported away first thing tomorrow morning," Captain Hei Shang promptly reported.
"Good. Then, immediately send a letter detailing the situation here. Request that His Holiness the Pope dispatch a few bishops. Also, take some men and seal off Torres's secret chamber," Bibi Dong ordered without hesitation.
"Yes, Your Highness!"
Lin Yongming observed Bibi Dong's commanding presence throughout the afternoon. Her thoughts were clear, her arrangements meticulous, and she executed everything without the slightest hesitation.
"She truly is the future Pope of the Spirit Hall. Even at such a young age, she possesses the potential of a leader. She's a natural-born ruler," Lin Yongming silently marveled.
By the time everything was settled, night had fallen. After dinner, since Bibi Dong and her entourage had traveled a great distance from Spirit City, they retired early to the available rooms to rest.
Lin Yongming was also preparing to rest when he suddenly heard a commotion coming from the direction of the storage room where Wang Ming was staying.
There was also the sound of a terrified girl's voice. Lin Yongming realized that the young girl they had rescued had woken up.
"Ghost! Don't come near me… stay away!" The girl, who had just woken up in the dimly lit room, was clearly frightened by Wang Ming's disfigured appearance.
"Miss, don't be afraid. My name is Wang Ming. You're safe now. Everything's alright," Wang Ming explained in a gentle tone.
However, the girl remained petrified, huddling in the corner and trembling as she glanced sideways at Wang Ming.
"Wang Ming, she's awake," Lin Yongming said as he approached.
"Yeah, but she's too scared to speak. I don't know what Torres did to her to make her this terrified," Wang Ming replied helplessly.
"Wang Ming, get her something to eat," Lin Yongming suggested.
"Got it. Wait here," Wang Ming said before rushing out.
Lin Yongming sat down on a chair by the bed and spoke softly to the girl with a reassuring smile. "Miss, don't be afraid. You've been saved. The people who captured you have been dealt with. Can you tell me your name and where you're from? We'll take you home first thing tomorrow morning."
"R-really?" the girl stammered, her voice barely audible.
Lin Yongming breathed a sigh of relief. The fact that she responded meant there was still hope.
"Of course. Look around. Does this place look like the dark room where they kept you?" Lin Yongming nodded gently.
"The person who just left is named Wang Ming. Don't let his appearance scare you. He's actually very kind. He was the one who found you and brought you here after you fainted from hunger," Lin Yongming continued, seeing that the girl remained silent.
The girl still didn't speak, but her trembling gradually subsided.
Before long, Wang Ming returned with a bowl of porridge and a few steamed buns.
"You must be hungry. I didn't know how long you've been without food, so I brought some porridge and vegetable buns," Wang Ming said as he handed the food to the girl.
The girl glanced at Lin Yongming and Wang Ming, both of whom were around her age. Slowly, she reached out for the food, clearly starving.
She immediately grabbed a bun and began devouring it, nearly choking in the process.
"Take it slow. Your stomach is empty. Have some porridge first to warm it up," Wang Ming advised.
As the girl began to eat more calmly, Lin Yongming stood up and said to Wang Ming, "Let her eat in peace."
Lin Yongming then walked out of the storage room, with Wang Ming following closely behind.
"Wang Ming, thank you for what you did earlier. If there's ever anything you need, don't hesitate to ask," Lin Yongming expressed his gratitude.
"Asura, it's actually me who should be thanking you. During your time at the Suotuo Great Spirit Arena, I've been watching you closely. Your talent and the way you carried yourself in the arena gave me the courage to finally tell you about this matter."
"To be honest, I was taking a gamble. If you had turned around and told Torres about this, I would've been a dead man. That's why I only decided to tell you after I saw Kuang Hu coming to meet Torres. I never expected that your letter would catch the attention of the Spirit Hall, prompting them to send the Saintess and a high-ranking elder."
"If it weren't for your bravery in delivering that letter, I wouldn't have been able to avenge my family today. Thank you, Asura," Wang Ming spoke solemnly.
"Regardless, you helped me too. After hearing your story, it was only right that I reported Torres's actions to the Spirit Hall headquarters," Lin Yongming replied with a faint smile.
"But now that you've endured so much and finally achieved your revenge, what are your plans? Will you stay here, or do you have somewhere else to go?" Lin Yongming asked curiously.
"The Spirit Hall is too vast, and its members are too diverse. Now that I've finally found closure and avenged my family, I can't stay here any longer. I plan to return to my hometown and live a simple, ordinary life," Wang Ming said with a sigh.
"That's a good decision. Sometimes, simplicity is its own form of happiness. I support your choice," Lin Yongming said, understanding Wang Ming's reasoning.
Wang Ming's innate spirit power was only at the first rank, and at nearly twenty years old, he had only reached the 13th level. Combined with the fact that he had exposed his colleagues' misdeeds, Wang Ming would undoubtedly face ostracism within the Suotuo City Spirit Hall. Staying here would not be a wise decision.
"Thank you… I know someone like you, a genius, is destined for greatness. Being part of the Spirit Hall, you'll inevitably face situations where you have no choice."
"Before I leave, I want to give you something as a token of my gratitude. I have a peculiar plant here. I don't know its name, but if someone touches it, it can sever their connection to their spirit, rendering them powerless for about an hour before the effects wear off," Wang Ming explained as he pulled out a glass vial containing a dark green plant.
"There's such a thing?!" Lin Yongming exclaimed in surprise.
"I found it in a cave deep in the mountains. When I touched it, a mysterious energy entered my body, and I lost all connection to my spirit and spirit power. It wasn't until an hour later that everything returned to normal."
"So, I named it the Soul-Severing Grass. It symbolizes the severing of one's spirit and spirit power. Since you're part of the Spirit Hall, I hope this can help you in times of danger," Wang Ming said as he handed the vial to Lin Yongming.
"Take it. It's of no use to me anymore," Wang Ming urged.
"Then I'll accept it. Thank you for the Soul-Severing Grass," Lin Yongming said, sensing Wang Ming's sincerity.
"Remember, don't touch it with your hands. Even if you need to take it out, use your spirit power to remove it from the vial," Wang Ming cautioned.
"I understand. Thank you," Lin Yongming nodded, noting how Wang Ming had preserved the plant in a water-filled glass vial to keep it from withering.
"I originally planned to use the Soul-Severing Grass against Torres, but without any allies, even if I managed to make him lose his spirit power, his assistants would've stopped me. I never had a chance," Wang Ming said with a helpless shake of his head.
"I understand. Taking on a Spirit Saint alone was an impossible task. But look on the bright side—you've achieved your revenge."
"And I hope that when you return to your hometown, you'll live for yourself. As long as you're alive, there's always hope. Take me, for example. I was born blind, living in perpetual darkness, but the light within me has never been extinguished by the darkness."
"Where there is light, there is darkness, and where there is darkness, there is light. The two coexist. Without one, the world would be in chaos," Lin Yongming said, thinking that Wang Ming might be considering ending his life after returning home.
"Asura, I understand what you're saying, but you're overthinking it. I'm just tired of the scheming and deceit. Now that I've avenged my family, I want to return to my hometown and contribute to my community," Wang Ming replied with a smile.
"That's good to hear. As for the girl inside, take care of her tonight," Lin Yongming said with a nod.
"Don't worry. You should rest early. You were injured this afternoon," Wang Ming said, glancing back at the room.
Lin Yongming nodded and returned to his own room.
The next morning, everyone was up early. Captain Hei Shang and his team were already preparing to transport the prisoners out of the city.
Bibi Dong, accompanied by four members of the Judgment Squad and Ghost Douluo, watched as Captain Hei Shang departed.
Once the captain was gone, Lin Yongming and the others returned to the grand hall.
"Your Highness, the Saintess, now that Torres's fate has been decided, I humbly request permission to return to my hometown and live out the rest of my days in peace," Wang Ming stepped forward and reported.
He repeated everything he had discussed with Lin Yongming the previous night.
"Wang Ming, the Spirit Hall has wronged you. I grant your request. However, you have rendered great service to the Spirit Hall yesterday."
"Here is a reward of ten thousand gold spirit coins from the Spirit Hall. Please accept it before you leave," Bibi Dong said, presenting the sum.
"This…"
"Wang Ming, take it. You'll probably need to rebuild your old home when you return," Lin Yongming interjected.
"That's right. Accept it," Bibi Dong nodded, personally handing the coins to Wang Ming.
"Very well. Thank you, Your Highness," Wang Ming said, accepting the coins.
"By the way, has the girl told you where she's from? We'll take her home," Bibi Dong asked.
"Yes, Your Highness. She mentioned that her home is in a village just north of the city. She came to Suotuo City with her parents to sell goods but was captured by Torres on the way."
"However, Your Highness, allow me to escort her back to her village. My hometown is also to the north, so it's on the way. Consider it my final act of service to the Spirit Hall," Wang Ming requested.
"Very well. Make sure she gets home safely. Here is an additional one hundred gold spirit coins as compensation from the Spirit Hall," Bibi Dong said, handing over the coins.
"Understood. I'll make sure she receives it," Wang Ming nodded before kneeling once more. "Then, I shall take my leave. Farewell, Your Highness."
"Take care…"
