After bidding farewell to Dugu Bo, Lin Yongming didn't immediately inspect the Heart of the Sea God. Instead, he picked up the Blue Silver Emperor, activated his external soul bone, and flew swiftly toward the Balak Kingdom.
"Xiao Ming, aren't you going to take a look at this Oceanic Heart Barrier first?" the Blue Silver Emperor asked, playing with the Heart of the Sea God in Lin Yongming's arms.
"Not yet. Let's get out of Tiandou City's territory first," Lin Yongming replied.
"Aren't you afraid Emperor Xue Ye gave you a fake? I've been looking at it, and aside from being pretty, it doesn't seem to have any special effects. It feels like trading the Snow-Colored Swan's Kiss for this was a bit of a loss," the Blue Silver Emperor said, unable to figure out anything special about it.
"No, I could sense Emperor Xue Ye's heartbeat at the time. He had no reason to lie," Lin Yongming said confidently.
"Alright, alright. But does this thing really repel water?" the Blue Silver Emperor asked again, somewhat skeptical.
"We'll find out soon enough. We should come across a lake on our way back."
"Okay!"
With Lin Yongming flying at full speed, they reached the desolate area by the afternoon—the same place where they had encountered Tang Hao and his brothers.
"Ayin, let's cross this desolate area first, then find a place to rest for the night. We should be able to reach Thunderstorm Village tomorrow. It's been over a year since we left. I wonder how my parents are doing," Lin Yongming said with a sigh.
"Yeah, I miss the meals your mother used to make. They were simple but had a unique flavor," the Blue Silver Emperor nodded vigorously.
With their plan set, Lin Yongming continued flying toward the Balak Kingdom, quickly traversing the vast, barren land.
By dusk, they had finally crossed the desolate area. Lin Yongming was feeling exhausted.
"Xiao Ming, there's a large river over there. Let's go down and rest. Look at you, rushing all day to get home. You didn't sleep last night, and now your energy is all over the place," the Blue Silver Emperor said, gently touching Lin Yongming's face with concern.
"Okay, let's go down then," Lin Yongming nodded, not pushing himself further.
They landed on the sandy bank of the river and then moved to a grassy area a bit further away.
"Let's set up the tent next to that big rock. It'll block the wind," the Blue Silver Emperor suggested, pointing to a large boulder.
"Sure, whatever you say."
After setting up the tent, the sky gradually darkened. They lit a fire beside the tent and started roasting some beef.
"Looking at this river reminds me of when we first met. It feels like so much time has passed," the Blue Silver Emperor said nostalgically.
"Yeah, from meeting and getting to know each other to now relying on each other, it feels like a dream," Lin Yongming sighed.
"Haha! You even drank my foot-washing water back then," the Blue Silver Emperor laughed, remembering the incident.
"...Wasn't it bathwater?" Lin Yongming said, exasperated.
"It was foot-washing water," the Blue Silver Emperor corrected.
"Fine, foot-washing water. If it was just foot-washing water, why did you call me a pervert and accuse me of peeking at you?" Lin Yongming pouted.
"What? You have a problem with that? How was I supposed to know a little kid would pop up out of nowhere?" the Blue Silver Emperor blushed.
"Right, right. I'm still just a little kid, huh, Ayin-jie?" Lin Yongming teased with a smile.
"Stop it! You're making me feel old. Look at you, you're already over 1.8 meters tall."
"By the way, when you go back, your parents are going to be so confused. How did you grow so tall in just a year? Haha!" the Blue Silver Emperor laughed.
"I can't help it. The Ice and Fire Body Tempering accelerated my growth. I just shot up," Lin Yongming said helplessly.
"That's not a bad thing," the Blue Silver Emperor nodded.
"Not bad? I didn't even get to enjoy my childhood properly before suddenly growing up," Lin Yongming said, pretending to cry.
"Well, that's what happens when you're born with innate full soul power," the Blue Silver Emperor teased.
"Alright, let's stop talking. You look exhausted. Let's get some rest in the tent," she said, noticing Lin Yongming's tired expression.
"Let's go together. It's a bit chilly, and this isn't a dangerous area. We don't need to keep watch," Lin Yongming suggested.
"Okay!"
They entered the tent and lay down. The fire outside slowly died down.
"Ayin-jie, can I hold you while we sleep?" Lin Yongming whispered.
"Sure, go ahead," the Blue Silver Emperor agreed without hesitation.
Lin Yongming gently held her, breathing in her scent as he gradually fell asleep.
Seeing that Lin Yongming was behaving himself, the Blue Silver Emperor also succumbed to her drowsiness and fell asleep.
Early the next morning, the chirping of birds woke the Blue Silver Emperor first. In the faint light, she looked at Lin Yongming, who was still sound asleep, and couldn't help but smile.
"Xiao Ming looks so cute when he's asleep!" She didn't rush to wake him.
She gently held Lin Yongming until the sun fully rose.
When she noticed Lin Yongming's eyelids fluttering, she knew he was about to wake up and stopped her movements.
A moment later, Lin Yongming softly said, "Good morning, Ayin."
"You're awake. You've been asleep for over ten hours," the Blue Silver Emperor reminded him.
"That long? What time is it?" Lin Yongming asked, still a bit groggy.
"Almost eight o'clock."
"Whew! It's still early. Ayin, let me hold you for a bit longer," Lin Yongming said with a grin.
"No way! You've been holding me all night, and my arm's gone numb. Come on, get up," the Blue Silver Emperor said, pulling his arm.
"Alright, alright. I'll get up and take a look at the Oceanic Heart Barrier," Lin Yongming reluctantly agreed.
"That's more like it. You study it while I make breakfast," the Blue Silver Emperor said, stepping out of the tent.
Lin Yongming took out the Heart of the Sea God. "Heart of the Sea God!"
He sat cross-legged, holding the Heart of the Sea God in both hands, and extended his spiritual power into it.
Lin Yongming knew that to fully gain the Heart of the Sea God's recognition, his spiritual power needed to be strong enough. Otherwise, he would only be able to use its basic function—repelling water.
However, as Lin Yongming's spiritual power probed the Heart of the Sea God, he encountered a layer of rippling water-like energy.
"This must be the Sea God's power, testing the strength of my spiritual power. If I can break through, I'll reach the core," Lin Yongming thought, gritting his teeth as he focused his spiritual power like a cone, piercing into the watery barrier.
The moment his spiritual power touched the barrier, Lin Yongming felt a sharp pain in his head, and his consciousness plunged into darkness as he fainted.
At that moment, the Heart of the Sea God began to glow brightly, filling the tent with a watery blue light.
"What's happening? Did Xiao Ming trigger some mechanism?" the Blue Silver Emperor, standing outside, noticed the anomaly.
When she opened the tent flap, she was met with a wave of blue energy that pushed her back.
"What's going on? Is Xiao Ming in danger?" she exclaimed, anxiously waiting outside.
Meanwhile, inside the Heart of the Sea God, a figure who seemed to have been sitting for a thousand years slowly opened his eyes.
"Oh? Someone has broken through the Sea God's power and reached the core. That means they can withstand the Sea God's power. Excellent! It's been so long since a qualified successor has come," the figure said, a smile forming on his lips as he looked at the unconscious Lin Yongming.
The figure stood up, towering and majestic, his entire body a deep blue, from his clothes to his hair.
Just as the Sea God's remnant was about to approach Lin Yongming, the space inside the Heart of the Sea God trembled, and a bolt of lightning shattered the Sea God's barrier, entering the inner space.
"Who's there!" the Sea God's remnant exclaimed, startled by the intrusion.
"I am the Thunder God!" The lightning transformed into a middle-aged man covered in crackling electricity—the same mysterious figure who had helped Lin Yongming before.
"Thunder God?" The Sea God's remnant frowned. "I've never heard of you."
"I am one of the oldest gods. It's not surprising that a newly ascended god like you hasn't heard of me," the Thunder God said with an air of authority.
At that moment, the Thunder Core, which Lin Yongming carried, appeared beside the Heart of the Sea God.
Sensing the presence of a god, the Thunder Core had broken through the spatial soul tool and entered the Heart of the Sea God's inner space.
"So, this boy is your successor," the Sea God's remnant said slowly.
"Of course. He has already gained the recognition of the Thunder Core. Otherwise, do you think his spiritual power would be strong enough to reach this place? Moreover, his physique is attuned to thunder. Only lightning can unleash his full potential. You're not thinking of stealing him from me, are you?"
"Ah, I remember now. You're the Sea God who ascended by gathering the faith of sea creatures. You must have seen my inheritance ground," the Thunder God's remnant said, suddenly recalling something.
"The Thunder God," the Sea God's remnant muttered. "Are you talking about the endless thunder domain deep in the ocean?"
"Exactly. My inheritance ground is at the center of that domain," the Thunder God said confidently.
"When I was at the peak of level 99, I tried to reach that place to ascend to godhood but failed to pass through the endless thunder. That's why I had to find another way. How can this boy, who's still so weak, possibly pass through it?" the Sea God's remnant said, exasperated.
"That's why I said his physique is attuned to thunder. Once he accumulates enough thunder energy, he'll naturally pass through. Don't forget, he's already gained the recognition of the Thunder Core," the Thunder God replied calmly.
"Fine. I just hope he can help me find a successor who can withstand the Sea God's power," the Sea God's remnant said, reluctantly accepting the situation.
"Let's go," the Sea God's remnant waved his hand, sending Lin Yongming's consciousness out of the Heart of the Sea God's inner space.
"Until next time," the Thunder God nodded and followed Lin Yongming out of the Sea God's space.
"Thunder God," the Sea God's remnant murmured. "Wait, that's not right. When my true self was in the divine realm, he had a general understanding of the gods. I'm sure I've never heard of the Thunder God."
"I see. There was a great war in the divine realm that spanned eras, and many gods fell. The Thunder God must be one of them."
"In that case, there's nothing to fear. With the right opportunity, it's not impossible for me to take the lead. Hmph!"
"Unfortunately, I can only contact my true self once I reach the inheritance ground. But to get to that thunder domain, he'll likely pass by my inheritance ground. Hehe."
"This kid, how does he keep running into artifacts and remnants of first-grade gods? His luck is truly something," the Thunder God's remnant thought, feeling a sense of unease.
But there was nothing the Thunder God's remnant could do. He could only issue a warning. The Sea God's remnant was right—the Thunder God had indeed fallen, leaving behind an inheritance ground before his death.
After thousands of years of erosion, the Thunder God's remnant was barely able to maintain its existence to find a suitable successor. It had no extra power to spare.
Lin Yongming, of course, had no idea what had happened. When he woke up, he found the Thunder Core in his left hand and the Heart of the Sea God in his right.
"Did I fail?" Lin Yongming frowned.
"Was it because of the Thunder Core that the Heart of the Sea God rejected me?" Lin Yongming thought, seeing that the Thunder Core had emerged on its own and the Heart of the Sea God was now unresponsive.
Lin Yongming had no choice but to accept that he had failed to gain the Heart of the Sea God's recognition.
"Fine. I only needed the Heart of the Sea God for its water-repelling ability anyway. If I failed, so be it," Lin Yongming thought resignedly.
"Xiao Ming! Xiao Ming!" The Blue Silver Emperor, seeing that the strange phenomenon had subsided, rushed into the tent.
"You scared me! What happened just now? Did you trigger some mechanism?" she asked anxiously.
"Uh... I don't know. I just remember using my spiritual power to probe the Oceanic Heart Barrier, and then I felt a sharp pain in my head and passed out. Ayin, did you notice anything?" Lin Yongming said, looking confused.
"Just now, the entire tent was enveloped by a mysterious force, and it turned a watery blue. I tried to come in but was pushed back," the Blue Silver Emperor explained.
"Really? I didn't notice anything. I must have been unconscious. The Oceanic Heart Barrier definitely holds a great secret, but I can't figure it out," Lin Yongming replied.
"If you can't figure it out, don't force it. What if your spiritual power collapses, and you end up blind and brain-dead?" the Blue Silver Emperor said, her voice trembling with worry.
"Alright, alright. Ayin, I'm sorry. I won't study it anymore," Lin Yongming said, quickly reassuring her.
"Good. We're doing fine as we are. There's no need to take such risks," the Blue Silver Emperor said earnestly.
"Understood. So, when's breakfast? I'm hungry," Lin Yongming said, shaking her arm.
"Breakfast? It's almost noon. Time for lunch," the Blue Silver Emperor said, exasperated.
"Ah!"
Lin Yongming was stunned. He hadn't realized he'd been out for several hours.
After lunch, they packed up the tent, and Lin Yongming picked up the Blue Silver Emperor to continue their journey.
With a whoosh, their figures sped off into the distance.
By the time they reached the Balak Kingdom, it was nearly dusk.
However, since they were now in the Balak Kingdom, Thunderstorm Village wasn't far away. Lin Yongming and the Blue Silver Emperor decided not to stop for the night and continued flying toward the village.
