Inside the Spirit Hall, there was a simple yet elegant room.
Bibi Dong, dressed in a purple gauze dress, lay lazily by the window. Her long, light purple hair cascaded down to her waist, and she rested her cheek on one hand as she gazed out at the twilight.
"That blind fool, it's been so long without any news."
"Did he really turn into a dead blind fool?"
"No, no, the Heaven Dou bishop clearly said he left Heaven Dou City safely."
"Maybe he's been so caught up living in the village with Lan Yin that he forgot about time. Should I go check on him?"
"Ah, forget it. What if he's not there again?"
Although she was looking out at the twilight, Bibi Dong's mind was elsewhere, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts.
At that moment, a woman in a dark purple bodysuit approached the window. She had short, dark red hair that reached her neck.
Compared to Bibi Dong, this woman wore light makeup and eyeliner, making her appear to be in her late twenties.
"Holy Maiden, what are you thinking about? I've been standing here for a while, and you didn't even notice," the woman said, breaking the silence.
"Ah! Sister Ling Yuan, when did you get here?" Bibi Dong immediately sat up straight, her cheeks slightly flushed.
"I came to see you for a reason," Ling Yuan replied, giving Bibi Dong a curious look.
"Oh, did the Supreme Pontiff summon me?" Bibi Dong asked, trying to hide her embarrassment.
"No. Do you remember the task you asked me to handle? The guards at the East Gate just informed me that the blind boy, Lin Yongming, has entered Spirit City."
"You've been so concerned about him. Were you just thinking about him? Is he your sweetheart?" Ling Yuan asked with a teasing smile.
"What? No! I'm just following the Supreme Pontiff's orders to keep an eye on him. He's not my sweetheart," Bibi Dong replied, trying to sound serious.
"Has he come to the Spirit Hall yet?" Bibi Dong quickly changed the subject.
"No, he and his companion disappeared after entering the city."
"You know, I've been through this before. Girls your age love to daydream and have high hopes for the future. It's easy to get swept away by sweet words and lose yourself," Ling Yuan said, giving Bibi Dong a knowing look.
"Sister Ling Yuan, that's not the case. I've dedicated my life to the Spirit Hall," Bibi Dong retorted.
"Alright, even though you call me sister, you're still the Holy Maiden. If nothing unexpected happens, you'll be the next Supreme Pontiff. I won't say more. I've told you what you asked me to keep an eye on," Ling Yuan said, shaking her head before leaving.
Within the Spirit Hall, the hierarchy was strict. Even though Bibi Dong called Ling Yuan "sister," Ling Yuan still addressed her as "Holy Maiden."
After Ling Yuan left, Bibi Dong was left in a daze, questioning herself. "Am I really like that?"
Bibi Dong didn't know the answer. All she knew was that hearing news about Lin Yongming made her heart feel lighter.
"If that blind fool has come to Spirit City, why didn't he come to the Spirit Hall right away? Maybe the journey was too tiring, and he decided to rest in the city for a couple of days."
"It's been over two years since I last saw him. He must have grown taller. I wonder how much he's changed."
"Ah, I want to go find him, but the eastern district is so big. Who knows which inn he's staying at? Is he staying with Lan Yin?"
After a moment of doubt, Bibi Dong lay back by the window, her thoughts running wild again.
…
On the second day in Spirit City, Lin Yongming and Lan Yinhuang woke up early, dressed in their best clothes, and left their room.
Around 8 a.m., after breakfast, the two headed toward the tallest building in Spirit City.
"Xiao Ming, do you think that Holy Maiden who cares about you will be waiting at the Spirit Hall entrance?" Lan Yinhuang suddenly asked as they walked.
"Ah Yin, why would she? She's the Holy Maiden. Why would she wait at the entrance for us? Besides, how would she know we've arrived in Spirit City? It's been so long; she's probably forgotten about us," Lin Yongming replied immediately.
"That's not necessarily true. This is Spirit City, after all. And don't forget, when Elder Ju came to see us, he brought a letter from her. What if she's really waiting for us at the entrance? What would you do?" Lan Yinhuang pressed.
"Uh… You still remember that? The Holy Maiden only sent that letter to remind me about the Continental Elite Spirit Master Tournament," Lin Yongming said helplessly.
"Hmph! Girls have long memories, especially beautiful ones," Lan Yinhuang said seriously, as if speaking from experience.
"Alright, Ah Yin, you're the only one in my heart. If the Holy Maiden is really waiting for us at the entrance, I won't even look at her, okay?" Lin Yongming quickly assured her.
"You can't look at her even if you wanted to," Lan Yinhuang rolled her eyes.
"You have a point, but she's the Holy Maiden. I'd have to greet her, right?" Lin Yongming said slowly.
"Fine, I won't make it difficult for you. You don't even know what she looks like, and you haven't spent much time with her. Why should I worry about this?" Lan Yinhuang suddenly brightened up.
Lin Yongming didn't know where Lan Yinhuang's sudden cheerfulness came from.
"Women are so unpredictable," Lin Yongming thought to himself, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, Bibi Dong was indeed waiting at the Spirit Hall entrance. She had gotten up earlier than the guards on duty.
After learning that Lin Yongming had arrived in Spirit City, Bibi Dong didn't know when he would come to the Spirit Hall, so she decided to wait at the entrance—a rather foolish plan.
"Good morning, Holy Maiden!" The guards on duty greeted Bibi Dong, though they found her pacing at the entrance a bit strange.
"Good morning," Bibi Dong nodded calmly.
"It's already shift change. Why hasn't he arrived yet? The Supreme Pontiff will be out by 9 a.m.," Bibi Dong thought anxiously.
However, after a night of reflection, Bibi Dong remembered Ling Yuan's words of caution and realized she might be overthinking things.
She knew that despite Lin Yongming's talent, there was still a significant gap between his status and hers as the Holy Maiden. If she showed too much interest, her teacher might see Lin Yongming as a threat.
As 9 a.m. approached, Bibi Dong spotted a handsome young man and a beautiful woman walking toward the Spirit Hall from the bustling square.
"Is that the blind fool? He's grown so tall!" If it weren't for Lin Yongming's signature eyepatch and Lan Yinhuang by his side, Bibi Dong might have mistaken him for someone else.
"He's even more handsome now!" Bibi Dong resisted the urge to run up to him, especially since Lan Yinhuang was holding his arm so intimately.
"Hmph! That blind fool has really fallen into a pit of tenderness."
"This is so infuriating!!!"
"I even said he was too young, but Lan Yin didn't spare him, a mere child!" Bibi Dong puffed out her cheeks, screaming internally.
"Xiao Ming, look! Isn't that Bibi Dong at the Spirit Hall entrance? Wow, she's even more beautiful now. So graceful. I'm a bit envious," Lan Yinhuang said, tightening her grip on Lin Yongming's arm.
"Uh… Really? Is she really waiting for us at the entrance?" Lin Yongming was speechless. He hadn't expected Lan Yinhuang's prediction to come true.
"Oh, now you're playing dumb? Don't tell me your mind's eye didn't notice her," Lan Yinhuang pinched Lin Yongming's waist fiercely.
"Ouch! That hurts! Be gentle!"
"Serves you right! When I was in pain, you weren't gentle either."
"Uh…"
Lin Yongming hadn't expected Lan Yinhuang's jealousy to flare up so quickly, even before he could react.
"Alright, let's not make a scene. We're almost at the Spirit Hall entrance," Lin Yongming whispered.
"Okay," Lan Yinhuang nodded, reluctantly letting go of Lin Yongming.
The two of them approached the steps leading to the Spirit Hall entrance and began climbing them.
Bibi Dong stood at the center of the entrance, hands on her hips.
"Well, well, look who's here. I thought someone had forgotten about the Continental Elite Spirit Master Tournament."
"Spirit Hall member, Lin Yongming, greets the Holy Maiden!" Lin Yongming stood straight, placed his right hand over his heart, and bowed slightly in the Spirit Hall's formal greeting.
"Someone clearly knew we were coming, so she's been waiting here since early morning. She must have waited a long time," Lan Yinhuang said, her tone laced with sarcasm.
"Nonsense! I'm the Holy Maiden of the Spirit Hall. Why would I wait here for someone? I was just taking a stroll because the weather is nice," Bibi Dong replied with a casual laugh.
"Oh? I've never seen anyone take a stroll at the entrance. How peculiar," Lan Yinhuang shrugged.
"That's because you lack imagination. I enjoy strolling at the entrance," Bibi Dong shot back without missing a beat.
"Impressive. The Holy Maiden's state of mind is truly profound," Lan Yinhuang said, clasping her hands in mock admiration.
"Hmph!"
The two women locked eyes, an invisible current of electricity sparking between them.
After a long moment, Lan Yinhuang proudly showed off the necklace around her neck. "This necklace is so beautiful. Xiao Ming, you have great taste. I love it."
"You…!" Bibi Dong's face darkened, stuttering in frustration.
Lan Yinhuang had delivered a decisive blow.
Lin Yongming, meanwhile, was sweating profusely. "What on earth is happening…"
He quickly stepped in to diffuse the tension. "Holy Maiden, where is the Supreme Pontiff? Lin Yongming has come as instructed to pay his respects."
"The Supreme Pontiff will be in the main hall at 9 a.m. You're a bit early," Bibi Dong took a deep breath and explained.
"Ah, that's perfect. We can wait in the main hall to show our sincerity," Lin Yongming said quickly.
"True. Follow me, then," Bibi Dong nodded and turned to lead them inside.
As they walked, Lan Yinhuang whispered to Lin Yongming, "See? I told you she'd be waiting for us."
"How did you know?" Lin Yongming was baffled. Who would have thought Bibi Dong would actually wait at the entrance?
"Hmph, a woman's intuition!" Lan Yinhuang said smugly.
"But how did she know we were in Spirit City?" Lin Yongming asked.
"I bet she asked the city guards to keep an eye out for someone with your description," Lan Yinhuang speculated.
"No way! How did you guess that?" Lin Yongming was stunned.
"So, how does it feel to have a stunning beauty care about you? Touched?" Lan Yinhuang teased.
"Not at all!" Lin Yongming would never admit that he felt a little touched.
"Hmph! Liar."
"Okay, maybe a little touched."
Hearing the two of them whispering and laughing behind her, Bibi Dong's face darkened as she walked ahead.
"Hmph, shameless!" Bibi Dong muttered under her breath.
However, they soon passed through the front hall and arrived at a circular plaza, where Lin Yongming and Lan Yinhuang stopped their banter and walked side by side behind Bibi Dong.
Lin Yongming noticed that there were patrols of ten guards stationed at intervals along the corridors, making the security here even tighter than at the Heaven Dou Spirit Hall.
If it weren't for Bibi Dong leading the way, they probably wouldn't have been able to get past the first gate without being stopped and questioned.
"Lin Yongming, since it's your first time at the Spirit Hall headquarters, let me give you a brief tour. The building we just passed is the front hall, which serves as the command center and living quarters for the Hall's knights," Bibi Dong stopped in the center of the plaza and pointed to the building behind them.
"Understood, Holy Maiden," Lin Yongming nodded.
"The building ahead is the secondary hall, where mid-level personnel reside. It also serves as the second line of defense."
"Beyond that is the most magnificent structure—the Supreme Pontiff's Palace. To its left and right are the Elder Hall and the Worship Hall, with the Douluo Hall located at the very back," Bibi Dong explained in detail.
"Thank you for the explanation, Holy Maiden," Lin Yongming said gratefully.
"No problem. You won't have access to the Elder, Worship, or Douluo Halls for now. As for the Supreme Pontiff's Palace, you can only enter if summoned by the Supreme Pontiff. Otherwise, you're not allowed in," Bibi Dong added seriously.
"I understand," Lin Yongming nodded, sensing the gravity in her tone.
Of course, he had no intention of visiting the Elder or Worship Halls. If it weren't for his first-time reporting, he wouldn't have wanted to come here at all.
As they spoke, they passed through the secondary hall and arrived at another small circular plaza with platforms on either side.
Ahead of them stood the famous Supreme Pontiff's Palace, its grand entrance adorned with a towering statue of a six-winged angel.
The heavy doors of the palace were still closed, with guards stationed on either side.
"This is the Supreme Pontiff's Palace. It's almost time for the Supreme Pontiff to summon us. We'll wait here," Bibi Dong said, stopping at the entrance.
"Of course. It's an honor to wait for the Supreme Pontiff," Lin Yongming replied formally.
Throughout the journey, Lan Yinhuang had been observing their surroundings, so she didn't interrupt Bibi Dong's explanations.
"Oh! Miss Lan Yin, long time no see," a melodious voice came from the side.
Lin Yongming didn't need to look to know it was Elder Ju.
"It's an honor to see you again!" Elder Ju bowed slightly to Lan Yinhuang.
"Elder Ju, what's the meaning of this?" Bibi Dong was shocked. Elder Ju hadn't greeted her but had instead bowed to Lan Yinhuang.
"Holy Maiden, don't misunderstand. This is a personal gesture," Elder Ju explained with a smile.
"Elder Ju, you're too kind!" Lan Yinhuang was also taken aback.
