The classroom was as silent as a graveyard, and everyone was stunned by Mr Greyfur's words. The class unconsciously leaned in—intrigued by his opinion and eager to hear what he had to say.
Koff! Koff!
Mr. Greyfur wasn't expecting this reaction—every other class he taught turned chaotic after this statement. He adjusted his tie before speaking again.
"If you say we won the war, then you must not be aware of the term 'martial dao?'" Mr Greyfur picked up a neat pile of A4 papers.
He walked around the class, sharing it with everyone—supernatural and human alike.
Leo picked it up, and a frown stretched across as he read the title;
The Mountain City of Shengwu
"Shengwu is a self-isolated city nestled high in the mountains, built by humans who discovered the power of martial arts and unlocked near-superhuman abilities through rigorous training and mystical techniques," Mr Greyfur explained while studying the stunned expressions on the faces of the students.
"After the Black Assembly of 1907, these unique humans appeared, threatening to get involved in the genocide against humanity continues… It is said one man from Shengwu is equivalent to ten supernaturals."
BULLSHIT!
No one was sure who screamed those words, but everyone was in support—including Leo. It annoyed him that he dedicated all that attention just to hear this crap.
"Currently, humans have been pushed out of all sports and stopped from competing with supernatural beings except martial arts. Don't you find that strange?"
Buzz!
The class fell quiet as Leo's eyes widened with shock. Thinking of it now, this was a hundred percent true. Supernatural beings dominated basketball, football, and other physical sports to the point where it was made a race thing.
Humans cannot compete because they are weak. But this has never been a rule in the martial arts club—in fact, that is the only human sport in the world.
Leo raised his hand, drawing everyone's attention, including Mr. Greyfur.
"Master Morningstar?"
Leo rose to his feet and asked directly without beating around the bush.
"Are you trying to say the country is trying to create something similar to the martial artists of Shengwu?"
"Yes," Mr. Greyfur responded confidently.
"Why do we know nothing about it?" Leo asked again.
"Two reasons, to be exact." Mr. Greyfur responded with a nod.
"The first is you are all fifteen-year-old kids who know nothing outside the civil war, and even at that, you know too little." Mr Greyfur scolded.
Leo frowned, but he didn't argue because it was true. Outside the major details of the war which was general information to everyone, he knew nothing else and never really tried to know more.
"The second reason is because there has been no success until recently. In major academies across Averoth, a few humans have shown a talent for martial arts."
Leo was dumbfounded and unsure of how to respond to this. He glanced around and noticed everyone was silent as well.
Mr Greyfur walked over to the blackboard while Leo sat down and wrote two words that threw everyone into confusion.
'Dark Continent'
"This," Mr. Greyfur knocked the board twice for emphasis. "This is the reason why humans and beasts live in harmony today!"
Without explaining, Mr. Greyfur walked to his desk and began packing up his things.
"That is your first assignment today. I want a five hundred-word essay on the dark continent turned in on Thursday." He said before walking out of the classroom.
Leo was left drowning in thought as he wondered if everything this man said was true. He glanced at Azakar, who was taking a nap on his desk, yet no one could see it.
Thinking about it, he was certain people would believe Shengwu over a bunch of texts which gave him an invisible lion, powers and gave him the title '1st prince of hell'.
Shuffling footsteps drew Leo's attention to Susan and Felix.
"It's lunch break. Aren't you heading out to the cafeteria?" Susan asked Leo before shooting a disdainful glance at Dami who was packing her things.
Before the duo reached Leo's desk, Dami had left—giving them some space to talk.
"Nope." Leo shook his head. "I think I'll head over to the library first and check on a few things."
Felix slipped into Dami's seat and leaned into Leo, who jerked back in reaction.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked, but Felix ignored his question.
"Don't tell me you are going to spend all day in the library. I know how you are when you find things that interest you." Felix accused.
He knew Leo more than anyone else. Leo was the type to drop everything else and focus his attention on anything that caught his eye. Felix noticed how invested he was in today's class, especially since it involved the human race.
"I just plan to read a couple of books at the library." Leo shrugged and rose to his feet.
He slapped his book close, shoved it into his backpack, and the duo followed him.
"Just make sure you are around for the next class." Felix reminded him.
"Sure," Leo shrugged before walking out of the class.
