CHAPTER 8:THE ZENITH PROTOCOL

Chapter 8: The Zenith Protocol

The underground base was silent, the only sounds being the soft breaths of those finally resting after their battle. But amidst the stillness, Daiki's eyes fluttered open. A faint noise echoed through the corridors—something unnatural. Cautiously, he got up and followed the sound, his footsteps light against the cold metal floor.

As he stepped outside, his eyes widened at the sight before him. A grotesque scene of reptilian creatures feasting on the remains of humans. Rage ignited within him, his hands crackling with electricity. Without hesitation, he clenched his fist and struck the nearest reptilian, sending a powerful thunder-infused punch straight through its chest. The others froze, startled by his overwhelming strength.

One of them hissed, stepping forward. "How did you acquire such power?"

Daiki narrowed his eyes. "Who are you?"

The reptilian grinned, revealing rows of sharp teeth. "We are your masters."

"What do you mean by that?" Daiki asked, his body tense.

The reptilian's expression remained unreadable. "How did you gain these abilities?"

Daiki hesitated before responding. "I don't know... A sudden power from the sky struck me, and when I woke up, I had these abilities."

The reptilian chuckled. "Then it must be the Zenith Protocol."

"The what?" Daiki's brows furrowed.

"The beings you call 'aliens'—they are the Zeniths. They are not mere invaders but an advanced species from another dimension."

Daiki clenched his fists. "Then... what are you?"

"We are not Zeniths," the reptilian admitted. "We come from another planet, one that became uninhabitable. We made a deal with the Zeniths to coexist here. The 'worthy' humans belong to them, while the 'unworthy' ones are ours to devour."

Daiki's blood boiled. "What do the Zeniths want?"

The reptilian's grin widened. "Your genetics."

Daiki's eyes widened. "What?"

"Though the Zeniths are blessed with superior intelligence and abilities, they lack one thing—your evolutionary potential. Humans, despite their weaknesses, possess an ever-adapting nature, something even the Zeniths cannot replicate. The chips they implant will slowly extract and refine your genetic material, creating their version of a 'perfect being.'"

Daiki took a step back, his mind racing. "So that's their true goal..."

Before he could react, the reptilian raised a clawed hand. The air around them distorted, and suddenly, Daiki's vision blurred. A wave of dizziness washed over him, and before he knew it, darkness consumed him. The last thing he saw was the reptilian's eerie grin before everything faded.

The Next Morning—7 AM

Hiroshi stretched, taking a deep breath as he stepped out of the underground base. The morning air was crisp, the sun casting long shadows over the ruined streets. He strolled through the silent roads, his mind at ease for the first time in days. But his peace was short-lived.

His gaze fell upon a cluster of reptilian corpses sprawled across the ground, their grotesque forms frozen in death. His heart pounded. He turned on his heel and sprinted back to the base.

"Everyone! Get up!"

Within moments, the others gathered around him, their eyes widening at the sight.

"These... aren't the Zeniths," Hikaru muttered, crouching beside one of the bodies.

Akito's expression darkened. "They look... familiar. Wait, I remember now! They resemble something I've seen before."

Kuroshin glanced at him. "What do you mean?"

Akito exhaled sharply. "You've heard of those conspiracy theories, right? The ones about powerful figures being disguised as reptilian creatures?"

Emi's eyes widened. "Yeah... I've read about that before. But I never thought—"

Before she could finish, Ryo suddenly spoke up, his voice laced with concern.

"Wait... Where's Daiki?"
