August arrived at the coordinates given by the system in four days. He left the car in the middle of the hills and covered it with vegetation so that it wouldn't bother anyone's eyes or attract attention.
The man guessed that the coordinates given to him were near the base of a large group of terrorists. The noise of the engine could attract their attention, so the car was left two kilometres away, and August took his backpack and came to the right place on foot.
After scouting the area, the mercenary found the same camp from the canon, where Tony Stark was held. There were still five hours until rescue time and the camp looked peaceful.
August looked at the mercenary camp through binoculars and sighed sadly as he looked at the huge crates of weapons. That's how much money could be made from the sale. The man even had thoughts of attacking the camp and robbing it. But he restrained himself. If he attacked, the terrorists could kill Stark and his mission would fail, and with it one of the key heroes of the Marvel universe. August was not eager to step into Tony Stark's shoes and carry the future of humanity on his shoulders. He was a simple man, and if someone could do the heavy lifting, he would do it.
Comfortably perched on a hill near the terrorist camp, August pulled out a large packet of crisps and a lemonade. He prepared himself for the show Stark was scheduled to put on in a couple of hours.
It was half an hour before the allotted time, and the bandits in the camp were already scrambling. Apparently Stark had escaped from her cell in the iron suit by this time and was now making her way to the surface. August opened a second packet of crisps and began shovelling them into his mouth, concentrating on the commotion in the camp.
After twenty minutes of terrorists running around, an iron giant appeared on the surface, emerging from the cave. Armed with two flamethrowers, the giant incinerated all opponents in front of him. A couple of particularly clever terrorists decided to stay out of the way and used a large calibre machine gun.
(Mark 1, Stark's first suit, a tribute by the writers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the old Iron Man comics.)
The machine gun proved effective against the giant. It lost its offensive power and gave the terrorists time to respawn and regroup. The flamethrowers could only hit the target at a distance of ten metres, beyond that the flame from the flamethrowers lost its destructive effect. The terrorists quickly found out about it, and while the machine gun was working on the giant, they ran away from him ten or twenty metres away, taking up advantageous positions.
The Iron Man began to be shelled from all sides. Some of the bullets damaged parts of the suit and burst inside, breaking the mechanics. Augustus, watching this beating of the future hero, even put aside his chips and took his rifle in his hand, going to help the heroine in trouble.
Anita assessed the situation around her and decided to take a risky step. Stopping to take cover from the machine gun, she used her flamethrowers to set fire to the arsenal of weapons around her. The rockets and ammunition stacked throughout the camp reacted instantly to the fire and detonated. To avoid being hit by the wave created by the explosions, Stark in her huge suit, using the jet packs on her boots, took off into the sky.
Her takeoff looked clumsy, the suit was too heavy and the jet engines on her feet were not of the best quality. It looked more like a rocket taking off than the flight of an advanced suit designed by a genius.
As Stark flew in the air, escaping the explosions she had caused, the terrorist base was also taking off, but only tentatively. Rockets exploded and bullets exploded all over the camp, stray shrapnel hitting the gaping women and tearing them to shreds. August wept loudly as he watched tens of thousands of dollars worth of rockets being destroyed before his eyes. How much money could be made if all this good stuff he could sell?
- Okay, the bird's going down, we need to catch it," August threw away his half-eaten packet of crisps and watched Anita Stark's landing.
At first the suit descended normally, but about halfway down, the jet engines began to misfire. With characteristic firing, the last moments of the engines' life, Stark descended to ten metres above the ground, and then the jets finally shut down and the suit went down like a stone.
August for a second flashed a desire to try to catch the flying girl, but then he turned his head and calculated how much the suit on Stark could weigh and did not want to die.
Exactly where the system indicated, the suit fell. A pile of dust from the landing rose up in the neighbourhood, and a huge crater formed in the sand with an iron giant in the middle.
- An ambulance rushing to the rescue! That sounds funny..." August muttered to himself as he went down into the crater and examined the victim.
The iron suit had opened from the fall, and the man could see the target of his task. A pretty girl with red hair, neat facial features and plump cherry lips. Stark had a fine figure, standing out even among the girls in this world. It was the first time August had seen such a petite cutie in his memory, the future heroine was not distinguished by her height and build.
- When was the last time she even bathed? - The mercenary, pulling the girl out of her costume, wrinkled his nose. Stark was covered in soot and dirt, her hair was crumpled, and her clothes reeked of sweat. - Fucking hell, she's got broken limbs, we've got to be careful with her.
Taking the unconscious girl in his arms, Augustus laid her down on a sheet. The man had prepared a cloth to carry the injured woman, so that he would not have to carry her in his arms. It would be easier to drag a wounded man across the sands than to carry him.
While the terrorists were recovering from the explosion after the incident at the base, August dragged Stark to his car.
After dragging the body to the car, the man opened the boot of the pickup and loaded the wounded woman into it, securing her. Then he himself got behind the wheel and drove to a prearranged place, a small cave.
Upon arrival, August quickly dragged the girl's body into the cave and hid the car. In the cave, the first thing the man did was to check the victim's pulse and after making sure that it was normal, he began to administer first aid along with repositioning the limbs. Thanks to the experience of the legendary mercenary, the multi-billionaire's limbs were repaired without any problems.
Not only her arms were broken, but also her legs. In order to better assist, the man had to undress the girl. He did not remove her underwear, but even without it there was something to admire during the treatment.
- Phew, maybe I should become a doctor. - After an hour, the man peeled off Stark, shaking off imaginary sweat. - All we have to do now is wait and see what the system comes up with. With a bulletproof Defstroke suit, my life would be a new colour.
While the system's assignment hung in the balance and the bandaged woman was still awake, August decided to set up a temporary campsite. He gathered some branches on the surface and built a fire in the centre of the cave, dragged a large boulder to the fire and sat down on it. Watching the fire thoughtfully, the man was filled with suspicion.
- Why hasn't the mission been completed yet? I saved Stark and gave her first aid. Really... - the mercenary ran up to the motionless woman and checked her pulse, it was much weaker than before. - She's bleeding internally! I should have guessed at once, without proper medical care she will not live long, what went wrong with the canon of this world?! I couldn't have influenced him like that, could I?
Looking at the pale face of the future superheroine, the man struggled with himself, making an important decision in his head. In the internal struggle, common sense won out in the end. August ran back to the campfire and pulled out an injector with a green liquid from his backpack.
- This is a rare item, received as a reward from a system mission, I was keeping it for myself. You will definitely pay for it, I will squeeze the juices out of you like a tick! - the man said threateningly to the unconscious girl as he injected a turbid liquid of unknown origin into her. The system upon receiving this thing gave a brief description, regeneration injector. After injecting the liquid from the injector into the body, it temporarily stimulated the natural regeneration of the person and could safely heal internal injuries to organs, and help with fractures.
- Because of women only losses, my father told me rightly, live alone and you won't know any grief in life, - August felt her pulse and made sure that the girl's condition started to normalise. - Now we have to wait until Stark wakes up and get more money out of her.
