Chapter 4

I sat on the table with my parents across the table, my mother prepared hot chocolate for me to calm me down. Jonathan had already gone to his friends house for a sleepover

I sniffed and I sighed heavily "the ...… the thread connected me ,to a married man and I instantly fell in love with him on first sight. But it's just one sided love " I bit my lower lip as it trembled

"Oh honey " my mom said as she took my hand a rubbed it "it's OK, just cry hmm " she looked at dad and he sighed

"I just don't understand?, why would the thread choose a married man? " my father questioned

"Just because they're married doesn't mean they are connected by the Thread of faith " my mom said as she continued to rub my hand

My father just slowly shook his head , "I seriously can't stand seeing my baby girl hurt " he stood up as he went to me , he pulled me up "but doesn't mean I'll sit and watch seeing my baby girl getting hurt " he kissed me on my forehead . I closed my eyes as I savoured this moment, despite him being busy , he will always make time for his own daughter. That was one thing I liked about him .

He looked at me and wiped my tears "let me tell you a secret on how I met your mother"

"Hey don't you dare "my mom said flustered

"It started back in school "my dad continued as he ignored my mother , "your mother was a bit of a delinquent kid if I must say , " he winked as I chuckled "I was a bit of a quiet kid , we were like 2 worlds apart , then our threads formed, I made sure to avoid her at all times since I was embarrassed ,"

"Then one day ,your mother approached me and slammed the desk I was on ,demanding why I'm ignoring her and if I see the thread, oh boy if only you seen how much I got attracted to fiery women, since that day we talked, and we found our similarities, then we dated " he picked me up and placed me on the table

I know that my mother was a fiery woman, and my dad had a soft heart , he was the one controlling my mom went things get messy , I guess I have my mom fiery attitude and also my dad soft heart , and made me , a messed up girl

"Oh come on, I only thought you were ignoring me because you thought you were too good for me " my mom said as she pinched her bridge of the nose , she climbed the table "but hey the only way to find out is by asking your soulmate sweetheart " she took my hand and rubbed my pinky "it's best to know the truth than being left in the dark " she kissed my cheek

I smiled as my heart finally cleared up , maybe they are right, I hugged them both "thanks guys " I sighed "Monday I'm going to ask him"

"Oh now that we are talking about him ,what's his name? " my dad asked

I looked at them, I smiled anxiously as I coughed "the guy?" I rubbed my neck "hey dad ,do you that Jonathan is not home ?" I dodged the question

"Oh yeah where's that little chipmunk " he said as he went to my brothers room

I sighed and I nearly jumped as I saw my mothers stare

"you're hiding something? "

"What?-no, what could I possibly hide.... I'm innocent " I smiled nervously

My mom sighed as she figured I won't say anything, "just, don't get yourself in trouble ok " she got off the table "anyways where is Jonathan? "

"Sleepover "

"Uhh that boy is going to be the death of me"

My mom said as she followed my dad to explain. I stood there alone , I looked at my parents wedding photo , mom was right ,it's best if I know the truth than being left in the dark. I made my way to my room. I switched on my lights and nearly screamed

"I'm batman " Jonathan said proudly, I hit him with my shoe "hey that hurts " he whined

"What are you doing here ?"

"Oh me ?, I came to deliver someone ,and now I'm gone " he winked as he jumped off the window

"delivery who"

"Probably me"

I flinched as I looked around and saw Anna standing

"Anna?!"

"On the flesh"

"How did you get -....don't tell me "

She smiled as I sighed in defeat, not only was my brother a pain in the neck, but somehow he managed to make my friend do stupid things. Anna looked at my bandages

"Oh my God Ruby what happened ? " she said concerned as she walked towards me ,already with today's activity ,I almost that I was injured

"It's fine "I reassured her ,I know how hard it is to lie to Anna, especially when so much happened in just one weekend , but my heart clenched even more that I didn't tell her who my soulmate was , we settled down as she slowly adjusted to my bandages

The silence grew heavy, I looked at her and I could tell that she was trying to process her words ,I nibbled my lower lip as I waited for her

".....are you happy? " I stood silent as her question caught me by surprise

"I...quite don't understand that Anna"

She stood silent for a while as she stared at me

"Are you happy? " she asked the question one more time "...the thread of faith, you used to be the biggest fan of it,you were the only person who was more excited to get it . So what happened now?, the you on Friday "

She holded my hand to comfort me "it wasn't the Ruby I expected to react to a thread "she continued, I looked down sadly, she was right, they wasn't one thing I was more excited about than getting my thread, but how could I possibly explain to her ?

She tilted my head and she smiled "don't you trust me Ruby?"

"...I do trust you Anna " I said in a low voice "but I'm not ready yet to open up my feelings yet " my expression saddened, I never wanted to come to the point where our friendship had to be tested . I clenched her hands tightly in hope of proving myself

"....it's OK, but atleast tell me about your soulmate?, did you meet ?,how old is he?"

"...I did meet him and...he's married "

"What?!" Anna exclaimed in shock, she stood up and paced around "this doesn't make any sense , why would it connect you to a married man, but then again not like they were connected by the Thread of faith but then again urghhh this is so frustrating " she mumbled to herself as she continued to pace around. She stopped and looked at me "did you guys talk about the thread? "

"Well more like the guy is trying to be oblivious about the thread "I answered

"Bullshit, this won't do it , tomorrow you have to confront your soulmate and talk about the thread "

She knelt down "even if it means breaking the thread, you have too "

I smiled and nodded ,I guess they are right, tomorrow I have to confront Mr Axton and ask about the thread

She smiled in relief and stood up "anyways I have to go since it's getting dark.....where did Jonathan go"

"For a sleepover "

".....does your parents know?"

"Not even in the slightest "

"he's in trouble isn't he? "

"Double trouble for teaching you to climb windows "

She chuckled "fine fine , but don't go to harsh on that cute kid ", we said our final goodbyes as she left, my heart soaring with a little glimpse of hope

I sat comfortably on my chair with my legs crossed, I rubbed mimie, our ginger car that was resting on my lap and purred in response of my rubs . I took a sip of the ginger tea as I looked at Jonathan with a grin plastered on my face

"So my little bro" I said as I teased him

This sucker was kneeling down on the floor with his hands levitating in the air . probably been an hour since he was like that , I almost felt sorry for him ,almost. He was punished by my parents for going out the night without saying anything. Nit like it's his first punishment anyway

"You're enjoying this ain't you" he mumbled angrily

"And why would I not enjoy it huh?"

He pouted as he looked away and I chuckled
