"Don't push; everyone will get a seat," Jia Fuhai reminded the crowd gathering around him.
Jia Fuhai and Zhen Linna placed the cakes on the table and allowed everyone to come forward and take one.
Children were given priority, and no one objected—after all, Boss Jia was keeping an eye on things.
"Grandpa, this is so delicious," a little girl said, trembling as she ate. To her, it was the best thing she had ever tasted.
"Weiwei, take it slow. Don't choke," her grandfather said quickly, handing her some water. If he hadn't been there for her birth, he might have called the police!
"It's our turn," said Chen Xiaofeng, feeling a bit full after being stuffed by Four-Star. Seeing how happy the children were and catching a whiff of the delicious aroma, his stomach betrayed him—his tongue was now the boss.
Though he knew the five-star cake would be even better, he just couldn't resist the four-star one.
"The packaging has finally improved," Chen Xiaofeng nodded approvingly, observing the more elegant five-star presentation. The previous packaging for the one- to four-star cakes had only been differentiated by the number of stars.
But the five-star packaging was different—it felt luxurious at first glance. The stars weren't just for show; they gleamed brightly, making sure you knew this was top-tier.
This glittery effect had been suggested by Zhen Linna. "If it's this expensive, it should look different," she said. "Otherwise, how can it stand out?"
Jia Fuhai thought that made sense, and now, here was the flashy five-star packaging, costing as much as the cake inside.
Chen Xiaofeng opened the package, inhaled the fragrant scent, swallowed hard, and took a bite.
In that moment, he felt as if he'd eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms—he was utterly mesmerized.
"This is incredible!" he exclaimed.
Soon, others pounced on the five-star cake like starving tigers.
"Hey, why is Uncle Zhou here too?" Jia Fuhai hadn't noticed him earlier, but now he saw Uncle Zhou's hands moving faster than the young ones. "When did he get here?"
"He's been here for a while," said Gao Qichao with a grin, eating cake. In his heart, he rejoiced—being able to eat this every day was one of the perks of working at the factory. Even if they didn't pay him, he would still stay for the cake.
"Let him enjoy it," Jia Fuhai said, watching Uncle Zhou eat happily. There was no need to disturb him.
It was like watching people on a psychedelic trip—everyone seemed to be in a daze.
Mr. Huang, the security guard at Tianfeng Factory, was happily eating when he noticed Xiao Zhao delivering a series of rapid punches to his phone.
"Hmph!" Huang ignored him and switched off his phone. Nothing could disturb him during his meal.
At the entrance of Tianfeng Factory:
"Where is Mr. Huang?" a leader asked.
Xiao Zhao hesitated for a moment, his phone behind his back, and quickly dialed Mr. Huang, hoping he'd pick up.
"Hmm?" The leader pressed.
"He went to Area 3 to help maintain order," Xiao Zhao suddenly recalled and quickly offered the excuse.
"With so many people here, it's good that he's there. I'll go check it out too," the leader said quietly. He wasn't happy about Huang enjoying the food alone. He was going to have words with him.
"Okay," Xiao Zhao said, rolling his eyes. Even though he wasn't very smart, he could tell from the tone that something wasn't right.
Young security guards had no rights, apparently. While others ate in secret, he had to stand guard. And when the boss showed up, he had to cover for the leader. But even the leader was sneaking food, leaving him all alone at the gate.
As the leader left, smiling, Xiao Zhao felt miserable. Hopefully, Boss Jia would take pity on him.
Xiao Zhao opened his phone and began writing a novel titled, "I'm in the Security Booth, and I Want to Steal Food Too."
"Hmph! If I can't have fun in real life, I'll at least enjoy myself in my novel," he muttered and started typing furiously on his phone.
Meanwhile, the security leader entered the No. 3 Jia Ji Food Factory and was amazed at the size of the crowd. He scanned the room and quickly spotted Mr. Huang in his uniform, but decided to greet Boss Jia first.
"Boss Jia, looks lively today," the leader said, eyes locked on the cakes, though his words were clearly insincere.
"Manager Liu, welcome to our factory. Care to try some food?" Jia Fuhai replied politely.
"Well, if you insist..." Manager Liu responded, but his hands moved with the speed of a professional gamer, grabbing several cakes in no time and digging in.
Grandpa Huang kept eating, indifferent to the leader's arrival. He had tried the cakes Grandpa Huang brought him earlier and was already a fan.
"…" Jia Fuhai was speechless watching Manager Liu's lack of manners.
It was kind of funny, though—Liu was unknowingly eating the three-star cake, the one no one else was interested in!
Manager Liu, unaware of the different ratings, thought the three-star cake was delicious.
As he ate, something caught his eye—the packaging on the opposite table looked different.
Quickly, he grabbed one from Uncle Huang to taste.
As soon as he bit into it...
"Hey, Xiao Liu, why are your eyes rolling back?" Uncle Huang wasn't worried when he saw Manager Liu because he was his second uncle! But why did he roll his eyes after tasting the cake?
"Second Uncle, why didn't you call me when there was something this good? I could've helped maintain order," Manager Liu choked out, eyes watering.
"You're the supervisor. Let me handle the small stuff," Uncle Huang replied shamelessly. He couldn't let his nephew mooch off free food!
"That's not fair! You're my uncle—let the junior handle this for you," Manager Liu said, standing tall as he devoured another cake.
"Then why didn't you help when I asked you to go to the kelp factory?" Grandpa Huang teased.
"That's different! I'm just showing respect for you as my uncle," Manager Liu replied, as if he were doing a great favor.
"Bah, a lousy security guard trying to show off? What's the use of that?" Grandpa Huang scoffed, stuffing more cake into his mouth. "If you just want to eat, just say so."
"Fine, I want to eat," Manager Liu admitted, unbothered since Uncle Huang was family.
"You'll have to wait until Jia Ji officially opens. Today's just a taste test," Grandpa Huang replied, pretending to be official.
"Second Uncle, are you here to taste food or to maintain order?" Manager Liu asked, glancing at his uncle's uniform and behavior.
"Hehe! If the people flow is well managed, why interfere?" Grandpa Huang shamelessly justified himself.
"Uncle, you…" Manager Liu sighed, realizing just how shameless his uncle could be. But he had to admit—the cake was worth it.
