Chapter 5

"Scarlett, it's rude not to drink when someone's apologizing to you."

Mother-in-law wanted to say something, but Dashiell interrupted her, "Mom, you don't need to think of her as so delicate."

"A daughter-in-law of the Stratton family should have some manners."

"Besides, Evelina is right, haven't we been trying to get pregnant for three years without success?"

"One drink won't hurt, what's there to be nervous about?"

I don't know where Dashiell got the nerve to bring this up.

He made me tremble with anger, I could only pinch my own thigh to keep from losing control.

Anyway, I was leaving today. If I could just get through this, it would all be worth it.

I forced down my emotions and squeezed out a smile at Evelina.

"I won't blame you, even if this child is Dashiell's, I won't blame you."

I raised my glass and drained it in one gulp.

Evelina's face turned somewhat awkward.

The dinner party was finally coming to an end, and Dashiell went to see Evelina off.
