The Ugly Truth

At 5 am, Berlin went to the Wayne's Company in haste. And she shouted at the top of her voice, "I want to see him"

"I'm sorry Ma'am but Mr. Wayne said that we shouldn't allow Berlin Morgan and monkeys inside and anywhere near the Wayne properties.

Feeling hurt within her heart, Berlin felt as if something was dying inside her. She cried out at the top of her lungs, "Callous, come out and let's talk! The death of your mom has nothing to do with me. I stepped out for a minute, and your mom was gone when I came back!"

The guards stared at her rugged clothes and disgusting bruises on her skin and face, coldly without a word.

"He is not coming," a soft voice said. A woman about twenty-eight years of age, was standing behind the guards. She was tall and beautiful. "He doesn't want to see you again. His mom just passed away. He wants to be alone."

It was her, the public girlfriend and secretary of Callous, whom Berlin thought to be her best friend, Tasha Bane.

For six years, Tasha had been the woman holding Callous arm everywhere they went. Berlin had no idea that her best friend had dated her ex-husband back in college. And in the eyes of the media and outsiders, Tasha was seen as the real wife of Callous. On the other hand, Berlin was seen as a piece of furniture and worthless.

Tasha walked slowly step by step. The guards respectfully paved the way for her, upon her arrival. The treatment and respect given to the two women were so different that Berlin hated Tasha the more.

"The two of you should get back to work. I want to speak to her alone."

The two guards looked at each other, bowed their heads in respect, and left.

"I did not kill his Mom!" Berlin said angrily and with pain in her heart.

I know. It's obvious you didn't kill her," Tasha said with a devilish smile as she walked into a secluded spot in the garage. She pulled a sharp knife from her purse and hid it behind her back.

Cars hardly parked there, because of the poor lighting and camera system. It was difficult to tell or see the knife hidden behind her.

Hearing her words, Berlin felt confused and something was not right. She followed Tasha into the secluded area hurriedly without much thinking. "What do you mean, Tasha?" Berlin asked, confusion written all over her face.

"Of course, you did not kill his Mom. You stepped out to buy groceries when I arrived to see her. So, how could you possibly have done that? "

Berlin stared, her eyes wide in shock, at Tasha, "So,... It... Were you... who killed her? "

"Hush... " Tasha put her finger to her lips, smiling devilishly.

"It was you! You crazy bitch. Callous Mom was a good woman and she was always helpful to you...? "

"Helpful? " Tasha intruppted, chuckling. "If it were not for that old woman, the wife of Callous would have been me instead of you. That old lady has known me since I was a child. Yet, She never liked me. Besides, she should have died a long time ago! "

"You're insane and evil. I will go tell them! "

Tasha didn't make a fuss at all as Berlin was about to turn away. She smiled saying, " You think they will believe you? "

Berlin paused and stayed where she was.

"It was the same when you tried to explain that you did not push the head maid down the stairs. No one believed you."

Berlin turned around in shock, looking at Tasha unbelievingly.

Tasha utterly enjoyed the look on her face and continued, "And it was the same when you said you did not steal the documents from the study room. No one believed you."

"What do you mean, Tasha!" Realization suddenly flashed in Berlin's mind. "It was all you! "

"That's right. It was me," Tasha snorted, her voice dripping with mockery. "But so what? Do you remember when you left my home after a visit, and I almost died of that allergic reaction? You said you did not do anything, but who believed you? Later, Callous got into a car accident and almost died at the hospital. Everyone saw and believed that I saved him. But you were the one who found him and dragged him out of that wreckage. Who believed you then?"

Hearing Tasha recount the past, Berlin unconsciously reached for her left hand.

She got Callous out of the car just in time, with every ounce of strength she had. But she didn't run out fast enough herself. The accident left a deep scar on her left arm

Tasha smirked, watching Berlin's reaction. "You sacrificed everything, Berlin, but I took the credit. And you know what? I enjoyed watching you suffer while the world turned its back on you. You're nothing but dumb.

She was the unacknowledged daughter of the Morgan family, all of whom hated her.

When she was taken into the Morgan family at 11 years old, She came to know at eighteen years old that the man she would marry was named Callous Wayne. However, she had no idea that Callous had a childhood lover, who is now his secretary, Tasha.

Following the loss of her father, she married him at nineteen. She was constantly compared to Tasha by her sister-in-law, Callous's aunt, and neighbors.

If Tasha was respectful then Berlin was rude and uncultured.

If Tasha was hardworking and decent then Berlin was lazy and vulgar.

Tasha studied in a prestigious school and went abroad to further her studies. Berlin did not even attend college before she was married to callous.

She also blindly treated Tasha as a good friend, from the time she was betrothed to Callous. However, she had no clue at the time, that everything she held dear was either being stolen or destroyed by Tasha.

Everyone believed that Berlin slept with Callous even though he was drunk at the time, to make Tasha jealous. They also believed she stole and destroyed the documents that could have made millions of money for the Wayne company. When she got pregnant, they said it belonged to someone else.

Her image and background made everyone ignorant of what she had done to be a match for Callous.

When she stayed up late to read by candlelight and improve her skills, they said she was a pretender, trying too hard to impress others.

When she tried to assist her husband on how to manage his finances and learn how to budget wisely, they said she was manipulative, a schemer who only wanted control over him.

When she opened a fashion boutique and started going for classes on how to sew, they said she was desperate for attention, chasing a dream she'd never achieve.

After her father passed away, they said she was a curse, the reason for their misfortune, a bitch who only brought ruin.

After she had a miscarriage, they said that she must have angered fate or the gods, and she was unworthy of getting pregnant. Even an innocent child died because of her, they whispered cruelly.

Later she came to understand that, in everything, Tasha was better than her and right all the time and she was the one in the wrong.

That was until yesterday when Berlin found her mother-in-law dead on the floor. When they ran an autopsy, they said it was food poisoning and they blamed her since she had prepared food for her mother-in-law before stepping out and now, the police are after her.

"You bitch, bitch! Why did you set me up like this? " Berlin threw herself at Tasha and began to hit her crazily.

Tasha had learned Martial arts. She dodged all the hits Berlin threw at her and held Berlin down, stabbing her, and pushing her towards the ground.

"Someone help...me!" She was bleeding and she felt her life slipping away.

Tasha looked at Berlin who lay lifeless on the ground with an evil smile on her face"Rest in peace, Bell. I will take your place and become Mrs. Tasha Wayne".
