"What?" I struggled to understand what he had just said.
Lost?
That word didn't seem to exist in our Southern Wolves Pack's dictionary.
Not after all the crazy things our pack had endured from the Western Wolves.
The West and the South could barely coexist. The West was a group of barbarians, a pack resembling rogues. They killed, tortured, raped, and committed arson like no other in the world.
Moreover, there was a time when both packs decided to unite as one. Luca's aunt, Sophia, was wed to one of the princes in the Western Pack, and what that bastard did to her was beyond belief, and it has sent Luca really furious, so much that he had personally washed their castle gate with blood of the prince's head.
Since then, both packs hated each other to the very core.
The Western Wolves wouldn't back down and continued their recklessness. Not only that, but they even extended their claws to humans, breaking the contract signed between the largest pack on the whole continent, the Northern Pack, and the humans—a peace treaty agreement.
The humans would ensure that no werewolves were captured for experiments and that they would get to experience the same human rights enjoyed by others when they were in the city. In turn, the werewolves promised never to harm any humans.
What the Western Wolves were doing was a direct violation of that treaty. In other words, it was like challenging the greatest and most powerful pack of all time.
Luca had always admired the two lycans ruling the Northern Pack. Their ferocity was every Alpha's dream. They were huge and powerful.
I had seen it with my own eyes. I always thought Luca and the Silent Beast were the biggest werewolf I had ever met, but when one of the twins transformed before me, I vividly remembered how my jaw dropped. One of them was twice the size of my husband. The other, whom I've never met, was said to be of a similar size.
It was my husband who had proposed to the Council that he be given the honor of putting the Western Wolves back in their place. And he was granted the responsibility.
There had been failures, sieges, and victories. But this particular war was of utmost importance because its failure would place the Western Wolves on equal footing with us.
3:3.
Three losses and three victories!
This definitely meant a lot.
I clenched my teeth, unable to wrap my head around the idea. I placed my teacup down and looked at Luss.
"We have helicopters, hundreds of trained wolves, weapons—we have everything. Moreover, we've been leading recently. May I ask… what happened on the field?" I was genuinely curious and concerned.
To me, this battle seemed to have a predictable outcome. Our pack would win. Luca's management had always been unquestionable. Even with limited resources, I was confident everything would go our way. My faith in him was unshakable. Yet, no matter how deeply I thought about it, I couldn't pinpoint what could have gone wrong.
There was a hint of sternness in Gamma Luss's eyes. He seemed agitated.
"He has been bewitched!"
"What?" My stomach dropped into a pit, a wave of nausea hitting me, and the tea lost it's taste.
"Luca has been bewitched by that bloody Western girl. We were almost winning when he charged to the midst of the enemies abruptly, leaving us uncoordinated and confused. We had to devise a last-minute plan just to avoid being slaughtered, only for him to return with that b*tch!" Luss reported, gritting his teeth, showing the deep anger he felt.
No matter how badly he took this, it wasn't nearly as bad as I did.
My husband… lost a war… for a woman? A Western woman? That woman?
Is he crazy?!
Now, I'm afraid my worst fear is coming true.
I took a deep breath to calm the influx of information and emotions threatening to overwhelm me. I looked at the Gamma and nodded.
"My lord, can you give me more details about her so I can determine exactly what to do?"
This was something I needed to know for both personal and pack-related reasons.
Gamma Luss's expression hardened even more, his eyes gleaming with fury.
"She is one of the whores belonging to Willow Belt…" He stared into my eyes, confirming my worst suspicion. "I fear your husband wants to make her his whore too."
