The elementless Avenger

Haru Honda: The Elementless Boy

My name is Haru Honda, and I am 16 years old. I live in Tokyo, Japan, and I am elementless.

Now, you might wonder—what is an element?

An element is a power that everyone is born with. Most people have one of the four main elements: fire, water, wind, or ground. Some rare individuals are born with special elements like magma or ice. Among these, fire and water are the most powerful, while wind and ground are considered weaker.

But somehow, I don’t have any element.

Being elementless makes life harder. People look down on me, and I’ve become an easy target for bullies. One of them is my classmate, Goi Abhoraya.

Goi is one of the strongest students at our school. He comes from a wealthy family and has a fire element, which makes him almost untouchable. Every day, he bullies me—forcing me to do his work, run errands, and endure humiliation. But I endure it all because, as long as I can study, nothing else matters.

At Home

After another tiring day, I arrived home.

"Welcome home," Mom greeted with a warm smile.

"So, how was your day?" Dad asked, looking up from the couch.

My mom, Amira Honda, has the wind element, and my dad, Asahi Honda, has the ground element. They are known as some of the weakest users of their respective elements, but they’re kind and hardworking. I haven’t told them about the bullying at school—I don’t want them to worry.

"School was as usual. Nothing new," I replied, forcing a smile.

Dad’s face lit up. "Oh, I see. Well, do you want to hear some good news?"

"What good news?" I asked curiously.

"Your mom is pregnant," he said, grinning.

I froze, then burst out excitedly. "What?! I’m going to be a big brother? Yeah, baby!"

Mom laughed. "Yes, you’re going to be a big brother. Now, dinner is ready. Let’s eat."

That Night

After dinner, I went to my room to finish my homework. While working, I heard the TV in the living room.

"Dad, what are you watching?" I called out.

He turned to me. "It’s the news. Your favorite hero, Yume Kui, is on!"

Yume Kui—the No. 1 hero in Japan. My idol. My inspiration.

I rushed to the living room. "Wow, Kui-san is on the news! Let me see!"

Mom teased, "I think you love him more than you love us."

I laughed. "I can’t help it. He’s my hero!"

The Next Morning

"Wake up, Haru! It’s time for breakfast!" Mom yelled from outside my room.

"Just five more minutes," I mumbled.

Five minutes later, the door burst open, and Mom sprayed water on my face.

"Ugh! I’m awake, I’m awake!" I groaned.

"It’s already 9:10! You’re going to be late!"

I shot up. "Oh no! I’m going to be late!"

Rushing downstairs, I tripped and fell flat on the floor. "Ouch!"

Mom shook her head. "At least eat breakfast first!"

"I’ll eat at school!" I shouted, running back upstairs to put on my uniform.

At School

I arrived late to class, panting.

"Sorry, I’m late. I overslept," I said at the door.

Goi smirked. "Who cares if you come to school or not? It’s not like you matter."

The class erupted in laughter. I ignored them and silently took my seat.

After school, I decided to buy gifts for my parents’ 21st anniversary. I wandered through the market, carefully choosing something special for them. As the sun set, I headed home, my mind filled with excitement.

"I’m going to be a big brother," I thought, smiling.

The Tragedy

When I reached home, I froze.

My house was destroyed. The walls were shattered, smoke rising into the sky. My heart stopped when I saw the lifeless bodies of my parents lying on the ground.

And standing over them, blood dripping from his weapon, was the man I admired most—Yume Kui.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. My idol, my hero, had killed my parents.

Tears blurred my vision as I stumbled forward. My voice shook as I screamed, "You... you were my hero! I wanted to be just like you!"

Kui turned to me, his cold eyes piercing through me. He wiped the blood from his weapon and said, "Heroes don’t exist, kid. This is the real world."

Then he walked away, leaving me trembling.

Darkness swirled around me, and my body began to glow. I didn’t understand what was happening, but I didn’t care. All I could think about was revenge.

Before I could act, everything went black.

The Cage

When I opened my eyes, I was locked in a cold, dark cage. My hands were tied with glowing

handcuffs, suppressing any energy within me.

"Where am I?" I whispered, my voice echoing in the silence.
