“Stressed out?”
“Are you joking with me, Xu Yiran?”
“You impulsively resigned suddenly, moved out of your house, and returned to that small village! You worked so hard to come up to this position, and your life was just sliding onto the right track. And there you are, saying you feel sick of this life now? Are you even in your senses? Do you know what you’re saying or doing?”
“What about your brother? Does he know you left him alone there? Or don’t tell me you’re going to push him toward me? Don’t even think about it. My life is already messy enough; I don’t have any extra patience to look after another person.”
“Why aren’t you talking anymore? Creating a mess and then staying silent? Even if you stay silent or beg me, I won’t change my mind.”
Listening to the sarcastic voice of the woman on the other end of the phone, Xu Yiran simply put the call on speaker, threw the phone sideways, lay on the sofa, and replied lazily:
“Well, you don’t have to worry about him. Even if I push him toward you, he’d rather be homeless than go to you. So don’t burn out those leftover brain cells of yours with such trivial matters.”
“You... what did you say?” The other party couldn’t believe it. Even though they, mother and daughter, had always been at odds, she had never been so mean toward her.
The shock was so great that Miss Xu Qingyu was at a loss for words for a moment.
Xu Yiran rubbed her aching temples repeatedly and said in a somewhat tired voice, “I handled Ah Yuan’s matter before coming, so stop disturbing him. And also me.”
On the other hand, Miss Xu Qingyu’s outwardly pretty face almost wrinkled into a pinched bun in anger, her veins almost popping out.
“Is this how you talk to your mother? Xu Yiran, has your courage grown now? You dare to taunt your mother?”
“Just wait until my work ends! See how I beat you into a meat dumpling after I return to the country!” Miss Xu—the Timeless Diva, Movie Queen—Qingyu screamed at the top of her lungs.
Xu Yiran silently poked her ear. Her headache was getting worse from her mother’s nagging, but there wasn’t the slightest bit of annoyance on her face. She seemed to even be enjoying it.
“Okay. Okay. Since you know how to conduct your life without taking anyone’s advice seriously, then don’t come to me when you run out of your little money. Don’t even think I will look after your brother and sister in the future.”
Xu Yiran raised her eyebrows in amusement. It seemed like Miss Xu was really angered by her this time. “Then Miss Xu must be disappointed to know that we, brother and sister, have the same goal: we’d rather die from hunger than take a single penny from Miss Xu. So rest assured, we will never try to latch onto your money,” she replied with even more outrageous words, her nonchalant tone angering the fuming person on the other line even more.
But she hung up the call even before the other person could mull over the words, blocked her for one hour, and threw the phone away—all in one go.
Xu Yiran finally felt the world had returned to silence again. She sank her entire body into the sofa behind her, curling up comfortably.
Miss Xu had always liked to shout like a stupid person when talking with her and her brother. She was so noisy that Xu Yiran felt her sight turning black from the headache.
Less than ten minutes after she came back from the trapped space dimension, she received this call from Miss Xu. Her head was already dizzy and aching, and she had to pressure her brain to remember her current situation in real time before talking with her.
Now she felt pain all over her body!
In her previous life, she had listened to the doctors’ advice, resigned from her job, and returned to her village for recuperation. However, her depression got worse day by day. Gradually, the idea of committing suicide crept into her mind.
But she didn’t know how or why she was suddenly pulled into a whirlwind of a ball of light when she was trying to find another cure. After that, she was trapped in a strange space without any sign of life.
Xu Yiran didn’t know how many years she was trapped there. She only remembered there were many miscellaneous things scattered everywhere, and she could see many strange people through a blurry glass-like wall. Since she couldn’t find any way to leave that place, she started spending her time tidying it, fiddling with any miscellaneous thing that looked interesting to her, or observing those blurry figures for hours.
Then one day, she was once again pulled into another whirlpool of a ball of light and bound to a stupid thing called the King of Rolls System. She was asked to complete tasks in different worlds before she could return to her original world.
In the first world, she became a poor student who had to become a top student and venture into the financial world, reaching the pinnacle of the business industry, making everyone tremble in fear.
The second world was about riding the waves in the entertainment industry for thirty years, honing her acting skills, and becoming a movie queen with a good reputation.
In the third world, like her own profession, she needed to become a top-notch professor at the world’s best university. The cycle went on and on.
When she thought this circle of missions would never end, that she would never be able to return home, and became numb, she was suddenly thrown into that familiar whirlpool out of nowhere. When she opened her eyes again, there she was, lying on her once-favorite sofa.
