Vynessa's POV
My heart races as I watch the wolf that is now Klaus, release a rumbling howl as his opponent drops to the floor, a large gap in the space that once held its heart.
My stomach lurches as I gag, dry vomiting. “Don't!! Don't come any closer.” I scream at the monster in front of me. Like he'd heard me, his wolf head drops, blood on his snout.
Then Klaus takes a step away from me, his bloodshot eyes fixed on something in the distance, and this time the tension in his body is visible. His tail is at alert, his body stiff and waiting, his eyes unwavering.
He takes another step towards whatever beast is bound to emerge, and another, his movements becoming more fluid and deliberate. My fingers dig into the grass as panic takes over. Surprisingly, my mind screams for him to come back. He might be a beast like them but at least for now he's protecting me.
