The silence that followed Alexi's disappearance was heavy with tension. Hiroshi could feel his heart rate accelerate, the rumbling of the Data Dragon drawing closer like distant thunder. His mind was in turmoil, a whirlwind of thoughts and unanswered questions. What was this game really about? And most importantly, what did the choice he had just made mean?
Mai looked at him, her gaze as deep as ever, but there was something new, a shadow of concern he had never seen before. Perhaps for the first time, she too was facing uncertainty about a future she couldn't predict.
"I don't know if you made the right choice", Mai said, her voice low but sincere. "Alexi offered something we can't ignore, but we can't trust him completely. No one who enters this world with eyes so... cold, had good intention".
Hiroshi nodded slowly, aware of her words. In a sense, never before had the world around them seemed so alien. Every code, every fragment of data that made up their reality, felt like an enigma towering over them.
"Yeah, but... what else can we do?" Hiroshi replied, lowering his gaze to his hands, almost as if trying to understand if they had changd, if they had. "We can't stay still. Alexi gave us a way forward, but i don't know if it's the right one. What happens if we refuse?"
Mai looked at him, her eyes momentarily uncertain. "If we refuse, we can continue to fight, but the truth is this world doesn't forgive the weak. Evolution, Hiroshi, is a neccesity. But what changes of us, defines us. You have to be ready to lose yourself in the process."
Hiroshi looked up, his eyes fixed on the horizon where the Data Dragon was drawing nearer, more menacing than before, like a storm ready to engulf everything. The idea of 'losing himself' unsetted him, but what did 'staying human' really mean in a place where the concept of humanity seemed blurred, like an old memory?
A flash light cut across the sky, and with it, the sound of the dragon approaching. Hiroshi braced himself, clenching his fists. Mai was already in position, ready to leap into battle. Her calmness was unsettling in its clarity.
The Data Dragon roared, shaking the ground beneath them. Hiroshi jumped forward, dodging the attack and trying to orient himself in the flood of data flowing around hiim like sand. Every move he made seemed to be tracing by invisible lines, as if the world itself was a program that could be manipulated.
Mai struck the dragon with a series of quick attacks, but the dragon seemed unfazed. Its eyes, cold lights of pure energy, fixed on them as though searching for their weakness.
Hiroshi felt adrenaline coursing through his veins. Alexi said he needed to change, but he still didn't understand how. For now, all that mattered was winning this battle, surviving long enough to find an answer.
"Mai!" Hiroshi shouted as the dragon closed in. "Are we ready?"
She nodded, her face expressionless, but in her eyes, there was a determination Hiroshi envied. "We always are, Hiroshi. This is our reality now".
The dragon lunged at them, unleashing a devastating blow that shook the ground. Hiroshi barely had time to react, but he moved quickly, diving into the battle. His body was starting to respond in ways he couldn't explain. It was as if the rules of the game were starting to bend to his will.
"Hey, Mai!" Hiroshi yelled as he dodged another attack from the dragon. "What do you say we change the rules of the game?"
Mai smiled, a quick decisive smile. "That's what we need to do, Hiroshi. We decide the rules now".
Suddenly, Hiroshi felt something stir within him, a new power awakening that he couldn't fully comprehend. It was like the code of the world was beginning to respond to his will. The Data Dragon launched another attack, but Hiroshi intercepted it with a move that seemed almost programmed, using his body's speed and the new energy he had tapped into.
The dragon hesitated for a moment, unsure. Mai seized the opportunity, leaping forward with a final strike that shattered part of the dragon's form, causing it to collapse.
Hiroshi dropped to his knees, panting, but a smile spread across his face. 'We won... for now'
The Data Dragon dissolved into a cloud of scattered data, but Hiroshi knew this wasn't the end. It was just the beginning of something much bigger, and the decision he had made would lead him to discover far more than he had ever imagined.
As he rose to his feet, Hiroshi felt a surge of energy unlike anything he had experienced before. A notification flashed before his eyes, confirming what he already felt. His level had increased: Level 2, the metallic voice said. With it came a newfound sense of power and the realization that he had taken the first step toward embracing whatever lay ahead.
