Bobby Dodd Stadium
Just five minutes from the Georgia Institute of Technology, there was a lot of activity in the area, as Shane had been working for some time on plans that only the two of them had studied.
After Jason left this shelter, he entrusted Shane with a very special task that very few people truly understood in terms of its significance. It involved capturing walkers—yes, capturing them just like Hershel once did—and storing them in containers.
Right now, containers full of walkers were being placed in the large stadium. This wasn't for saving them or for research purposes. These classified containers were called "White Candy," and they were one of the special weapons of the S.C.T. community.
Jason had the crazy idea of selecting intelligent walkers and locking them up in containers to be used in the future as weapons. Can you imagine hundreds of walkers pouring out of a container that drops from the sky directly into an enemy base?
Just a few containers would be enough to wipe out an entire base. Jason even considered, along with Shane, a quick method to destroy the central base where Rick is currently leading. Because of this, anti-air defenses would have to be considered later on.
At times, Shane thought these measures were unnecessary, but he no longer believed that. Ever since a community attacked them with more than seventy armed individuals, what guarantees were there that there weren't other communities like theirs elsewhere?
Nowadays, food was starting to run low. Fortunately, there were many areas where crops could be planted to sustain the population, and the farming methods were solid. But that wasn't the case for other bases. For example, the Governor's community didn't have its own food production, and that was one of the reasons why they resorted to stealing.
It was understood that the prison was expanding its second protective wall, four times larger than the previous one, which would allow them to increase vegetable cultivation. Not only that, but it would also raise the population capacity, and it's estimated that the central base could eventually accommodate up to fifty thousand people.
These figures vary, but ever since Shane began expanding in this part of Georgia, the number of people had grown exponentially. There were now over three thousand refugees being sent to the base in Atlanta for training.
Many were sent back to the central base to increase the labor force for building walls, structures, watchtowers, and crops. The central base was one of the largest food producers and was considered the future of the entire community, so it needed far more people and security.
All of this ensured that, in the future, everyone in the community would have a useful and necessary job, so no one was wasting time nowadays. Even the elderly were helping—some had knowledge to share, while others looked after the children so adults could work.
These expansion plans were carefully prepared by numerous architects. Jason had only one request: that the central base be strong enough to withstand hundreds of thousands of walker attacks without issue, and that every attempted attack be met with containment operations.
Electricity was also a crucial pillar being maintained. With the unlimited resources coming from the city, the central base was taking on a very sophisticated appearance.
Of course, Shane was aware of everything happening within the community. Personally leading these operations, everything was progressing smoothly.
"Leader Shane! Report from the general commander: Squad A-1 made it to the hospital safely and is now returning to base."
Upon hearing this, Shane narrowed his eyes and motioned for the soldier to approach. He was watching how the walker containers were being positioned in the center of the stadium. He had been uneasy about something going wrong, but fortunately, that hadn't happened.
"What's the situation?"
"Sir, under the commander's orders, we'll be establishing a support base at the hospital where that group of survivors was! We analyzed the place, and it's not too far, so it's ideal to use it as our medical center."
Facing the vast green field, Shane nodded when he heard this. For some time, he had been concerned about what to do if large numbers of people fell ill due to infections or other contagious diseases.
The hospital Jason had contacted wasn't far—just eight minutes from the university—so it was only a matter of time before they took over the place. Now that the walls around the university were nearly complete, moving into that area was no longer a problem.
The university grounds were now on par with the central base, with the same strength and watchtowers as the prison. They had been working for a long time and had completed construction.
The streets around the university had been cleared of walkers and sealed off with wire fences. This way, very few walkers could enter the safe zone. For now, buildings and factories, along with other schools and universities, were also being cleared, while another group focused on crops, weapon manufacturing, ammunition, and combat suits.
"All right, then organize an advance group to clear out and fence off the area around the building!" Shane left the place with enthusiasm. After all, the task here had been completed.
Although the ideas of expansion and securing one of Georgia's largest hospitals were promising, many things still needed to be confirmed before the operation could move forward.
