"I hope I am not too late." He said, the air felt thick with tension. Behind him, Selene and Vess struggled to keep up, their shouts lost in the rush of his focus.

'Was he always that fast?' Vess thought. 

He couldn't let Luna ruin everything. If she told the elder that he was a hero summoned by Ariadne—one who had rejected her divine blessing—it could unravel his plans to stay off the goddesses' radar. 

With the promotional exam driving competition among the deities, that information was a spark that could ignite a firestorm. Alecia, the goddess of love worshipped by the elder, might see him as a tool, a threat, or a prize. 

He wanted none of it. 

He skidded to a halt outside the large hut, its wooden frame adorned with carvings of flowers and vines—symbols of Alecia's domain. The door was ajar, and voices drifted out. Luna's sharp tone cut through the murmur, followed by the calm, measured response of an older woman. His stomach tightened.
