New Life

After placing Damien in the cradle, Jasmine leaned down and kissed his forehead. She smiled warmly before gently picking up his sister in her embrace.

"Take some rest, little boy!"

Damien truly appreciated her words since he wanted some time alone. As he watched his mother leave the room, he exhaled a sigh of relief.

It had already been a year since his reincarnation. Aside from the first day, when he could think clearly, his mind had been in turmoil. For the entire year, it felt as though his teenage soul was being assimilated into his new body. Time seemed to pass rapidly, like watching his own upbringing unfold in fast motion.

Today, the assimilation was finally complete. He was back to normal, able to think clearly. But this clarity only heightened his worries.

'What should I do?'

He was destined to be killed in an attack when he turned ten. It was a canon event and one of the most significant ones in the game's lore. Now, he wondered how he could prevent it.

Closing his eyes, Damien tried to remember every detail to assess his situation properly.

He had reincarnated into World of Miracles, an open-world RPG he used to play, because of that man. It was a single-player story mode game where the protagonist was a figure who fell from space. Not much was revealed about their backstory, as he hadn't completed the game.

There were a total of eight Plays, according to the developers, and he had only completed the first three. He was reincarnated sixteen years before the start of Play First.

In Play First, Elise Wayne played an important role and was a key figure throughout the story. She had a tragic backstory that made players root for her.

At the age of ten, her parents left her to deal with a powerful Rift. Taking advantage of the situation, the Obsidian Council kidnapped her and killed her twin brother, Damien Wayne.

The same fate awaited Damien if he didn't act. But he was just a kid.

Damien had come to terms with his new situation, even if it felt awkward. Children's actions could be embarrassing, but over the past year, his body and mind had adapted.

As he lay in his cradle, he thought, 'Now that I know what's going to happen, I can change it. But it will definitely create butterfly effects, so I'll have to manage that too.'

He was worried about his future but also excited. Damien looked forward to exploring the world and completing all eight Plays. He wanted to meet all the NPCs he loved. In this new world, they were real people, and he could interact with them directly. He raised his little hands in the air, thinking, 'I will meet them all and become friends with them.'

While Damien was excited and hopeful, he hadn't forgotten his past and how he had died. He still remembered every detail of his death and the man's ominous words.

'Mission... please his master... Did he throw me here just for his enjoyment?'

He clenched his tiny hands, feeling anger boil inside him. He wasn't someone's puppet for entertainment, and he would prove them wrong. They wanted to entertain themselves at his expense, but he would show them what he could truly accomplish.

He was the Ruler of World of Miracles, and he intended to retain that title in this world.

'What was that about Asty?'

The man had mentioned that he could meet his best friend, Astraea. Normally, Damien would have scoffed at the idea since she had died years ago. But bizarre events like reincarnation had already occurred, so maybe there was a chance to see her again.

Still, Damien tried his best not to get too hopeful. Hope could be a poison, and he didn't want that. He had learned that lesson long ago.

'Alright. No point in dwelling on the past. I need to do everything I can to survive. There's still a chance things might not go my way.'

He began to formulate a plan, and one thing became clear. he needed to grow stronger quickly and gather allies. Fighting against the Obsidian Council would be futile early on, as they were too powerful. But they wouldn't stop after just one attack.

Damien needed to be prepared for anything.

'Did I get some cheats or not?'

He wondered, trying to think of anything that could give him an edge. Finally, after many futile attempts, he thought, 'Status!'

Damien tried his best not to show his shock, but his heart raced as he saw his character profile. It was a smaller version of the in-game character profile, missing many stats. But that wasn't what shocked him—it was his talent.

Mythical.

In the game, talents were assigned to everyone, including NPCs. There were nine grades in total: Common, Uncommon, Unusual, Unique, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythical, and Divine.

Divine Talent was exclusive to the protagonist due to their unique background. As for Mythical Talent, he had met fewer than four people with it in the first three Plays.

That alone spoke to its rarity. After all, Mythical Talent could potentially allow someone to contend against the Gods. It was confusing why developers included Divine Talent alongside Mythical, but he didn't know.

One of the people he knew with Mythical Talent was his sister, who was a key figure in the main story.

Damien drew a cold breath, thinking, 'No wonder the Obsidian Council killed Damien. There was no way they would let a Mythical Talent continue to get stronger.'

But this realization made things even more difficult. He wouldn't be able to use his talent properly until he awakened his Essence Core and ascended to higher stages, which was supposed to happen at the age of twelve. He didn't know much about this part since the protagonist never went through it.

'Or maybe I can try now? But it's risky.'

As far as he knew, awakening took place at twelve due to the pressure of the Essence Core. It was connected to both the soul and the body, existing as a metaphysical construct, so a powerful soul and body were required to host it.

'Thankfully, I didn't skip the lore and minor details.'

He had a teenage soul, so he should be okay with an early awakening. But the problem was his body. He would need to work on strengthening it and awaken early. Was it even possible? He didn't know because no one had awakened their Essence Core before the age of twelve years old.

'Wait! Then those bastards would target me sooner... aghh! Why is this body so weak?'

Damien was already getting sleepy, so he forgot about everything and dozed off. He only woke up when his mother's happy voice reached his ears.

"Sweetie, your dad is finally here. Let's go."

'Oh yeah, I have a father.'
