Chapter Five(5) The Meeting

The following morning, Yvonne arrived early at the office, her heart racing with a mix of nervous energy and excitement. Today was crucial; she was determined to prove herself during the client meeting. Clutching a stack of meticulously prepared materials, she set about organizing the conference room, ensuring everything was in perfect order.

The sun streamed through the large windows, illuminating the sleek space. Yvonne took a deep breath, trying to calm the flutter of anxiety in her stomach. She knew this was her moment to shine, to show Jordan that she could be more than just his secretary.

When Jordan entered the room, he cut a striking figure in his tailored suit. There was a confidence about him that sent a thrill through Yvonne, though she fought to suppress it. His eyes scanned the room before landing on her, and a flash of something—approving or perhaps amused—crossed his face.

Jordan: "You came prepared."

Yvonne: [forcing a smile] "I hope I can impress you today."

Jordan raised an eyebrow, a sly smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.

Jordan: "Let's see what you've got."

As the clients arrived, Yvonne's focus shifted to the presentation. She felt the confidence swell within her as she spoke clearly and passionately about their offerings. With every successful point she made, she could feel Jordan's gaze on her, almost evaluating her performance, and it both thrilled and unnerved her.

When the meeting concluded with applause, Yvonne couldn't help but feel a rush of pride.

Client 1: "This seems promising. Thank you for your presentation."

As the clients left, Yvonne turned to Jordan, eager for validation.

Yvonne: "Did I do okay?"

Jordan: "You were fantastic. I knew you had it in you."

His compliment sent warmth through her chest, making her momentarily forget the way he often played with her emotions.

Yvonne: "Thanks. That really means a lot."

Jordan: "You've shown growth. Now just remember, I expect you to keep this up."

Yvonne nodded, wanting nothing more than to impress him, to earn his respect. But as she watched him assess her with that familiar, detached gaze, a small voice in her head cautioned her that his approval may never come as she hoped.

Jordan: "If you're serious about taking the lead, then you need to push yourself even harder. I won't always be here to guide you."

Her heart sank a little, the familiar wave of insecurity rolling in.

Yvonne: "I will. I can handle whatever comes my way."

With that, he merely nodded and turned to leave, leaving Yvonne standing there with a mixture of resolve and disappointment. She was beginning to realize that her feelings for him were growing deeper, complicated by his seemingly casual approach to their dynamic.

As the days went by, Yvonne poured her energy into work, fueled by both ambition and her feelings for Jordan. She often caught herself daydreaming about him, imagining moments beyond the office walls, moments where he would see her not just as an employee(intern) but as someone worthy of his affection.

Later in the week, while working late, she found herself deep in thought, preparing for the next project. The office was quiet, and she felt a sense of pride in her hard work. Suddenly, the door opened, and Jordan walked in, casually leaning against the doorframe.

Jordan: "Still here? You know I told you to take care of yourself, right?"

Yvonne looked up, her heart fluttering at his presence despite the familiar pang of frustration.

Yvonne: "I wanted to make sure everything is in place for the upcoming review."

Jordan stepped closer, his expression teasing.

Jordan: "Obsessed with impressing me again? I could get used to this."

Yvonne fought the blush rising in her cheeks, trying to maintain her composure.

Yvonne: "I believe in our projects. I want to see us succeed."

Jordan's expression shifted slightly, amusement dancing in his eyes as he leaned closer, an intensity in his gaze that sent her heart racing.

Jordan: "You've really become quite the ambitious one. Just remember, I won't always be around to swoop in when you need saving."

As he moved back to his casual stance, Yvonne looked down, feeling a mix of flattery and frustration.

Yvonne: "I'm not looking for anyone to save me, Jordan."

Jordan smirked, unfazed, as if the tension swirling between them was just another game to him.

Jordan: "We'll see about that. Confidence is important, but don't let it blind you."

His words hung in the air, sending a shiver down Yvonne's spine. She knew he was right about one thing—her feelings for him were blinding. She was falling, and it scared her. It wasn't just about career advancement anymore; every interaction felt laden with an unspoken tension that left her questioning her own heart.

Yvonne took a deep breath, willing her emotions to settle.

Yvonne: "I'm fully aware of my strengths. I'm not just a pretty face on your team."

Jordan chuckled softly, a hint of mockery in his tone that struck a nerve.

Jordan: "I never said you were. But in this industry, looks can get you far. Just don't rely solely on them."

She bristled at his comment, feeling the sting of his words. Was he playing with her, or was there some truth behind his bravado? The line between flattery and condescension blurred, and her frustration bubbled to the surface.

Yvonne: "I'm capable and smart. I want you to see that."

Jordan's expression shifted, the teasing fading slightly.

Jordan: "I see it, but remember—actions speak louder than words. Keep proving it."

As she stood there, caught between anger and admiration, she couldn't help but wonder if he truly understood how hard she was trying to gain his interest. Or was she merely another pawn in his game, someone to entertain him in moments of boredom?

As he walked past her desk to leave, she felt a rush of determination.

Yvonne: "I will prove myself, Jordan. Just wait."

He paused, glancing back over his shoulder, his smirk back in place.

Jordan: "I look forward to it."

As he exited, Yvonne felt a mix of determination and longing well up inside her. She worked diligently that evening, pushing her feelings aside to channel her focus onto her projects. She needed to show Jordan that she was more than just a game to him; she was someone who could stand alongside him.

But late that night, she found herself staring out of the office window, the faint city lights twinkling below. The mixture of ambition and unrequited feelings weighed heavily on her. She considered the path she was on, all the while wondering if it would lead to a more visceral connection with Jordan or simply leave her heart in tatters.

With her heart racing at the thought of what lay ahead, she whispered into the quiet room, her voice barely a breath.

Yvonne: "I won't let you treat me like a game, Jordan."

It was both a challenge and a promise—a glimpse into the fight within her that she was ready to unleash. She was falling for him, but she wouldn't lose herself in the process. Determined, she turned back to her work, ready to carve out her place, hoping that one day, Jordan might truly notice her for who she was beyond the game.

"Ummm guys I wish Yvonne knows that Jordan isn't in love with her or likes her that way but she is confused herself so find out in the next chapter ☺️.....
