~CHAPTER 2~
Zombies. They're Zombies.
It has to be.
"Diana? What is happening?" Mel asked me, her voice trembling.
"I don't know. I don't...I don't know." I say at the brink tears.
"Just stay put. We'll get outta here once everywhere calms down. Okay?" I said to my sister and she nodded.
I was in utter confusion with What was happening right now.
I suddenly remembered my phone and quickly speed dailed our Mom but it went straight to voicemail.
Oh no. Her phone is not available.
I then brought out Nathan's number next and dailed him, thankfully it rang.
"Hello Nate?" I called out hopefully.
"Hey baby, where are you? I thought we were meeting up for Ice cream." He said to me unaware of the what was happening.
"Nate? Listen to me, listen to me, you have to get to safety, something crazy is happening, and now we're stuck on the road, there are zombies running around the whole place and they're killing people or turning them insane! I don't know what I'm going to do, I can't get my mom on the phone..." I was ranting to him endlessly till he cut in.
"Whoa babe, slow down, what do you mean by stuck on the road? And what zombies? Don't tell me you believe all that crappy theories online." He said to me and chuckled slightly.
"No no no no you don't understand. They're biting people! And chasing everyone down. Nate! I'm seeing it with my very own eyes. I'm with my little sister in the car and I'm so scared. I....I...I don't know what to do." I broke down in tears.
"Wait. Are you being for real right now?" He asked me this time with a serious tone.
"Yes!!!! Damnit Nate." I snapped at him.
"Okay okay. Wow, I don't know what to say. Have you called your Mom?" He asked me.
"I just told you I couldn't get her on the phone!" I snapped at him again.
"Okay right. Sorry. Ummm, have you tried calling the police?" He suggested.
"Ah yes! thank you. Hold up let me try them now." I put the call with Nate on hold and dailed 911.
"Hello 911, what's your emergency?" A female voice said to me from the line.
"Hello, umm, there's been a situation on Main bridge city street, there are crazy people attacking everyone on the street and we're stuck in our car. The cars parked up front is making it impossible to move our cars. Please send help." I said the lady.
"Okay ma'am. We've already received countless complaints about this issue and help is already on the way. Thank you for your patience." She said and cut off the line.
I put Nate back on the call.
"They said help is already on the way." I told him.
"Okay, That's good. So stop stressing too much. You guys will be back home before you know it." He said to me.
"I really hope so." I said to him clutching tightly the steering wheel of the car.
"Okay. Um listen babe, I gotta go. There's a commotion at school right now. Need to go check out what it's all about." He said to me.
"No. Don't go. Just go straight home please. It could be an attack." I said worriedly to him.
"Don't worry about me. If it's one of those crazy bastards, I'll knock them out myself." He said cockily.
"Just be careful. Please. This is serious." I said to him.
"Sure sure. Gotta go now babe. Call me when you get home." He said to me and ended the call.
"It's going to be okay Mel. Help is on the way." I said to my sister and patted her shoulder slightly.
"Okay. I just hope Mom's okay." She said to me.
"I'm sure she's fine. Probably struggling to charge her phone. You know how she is." I said to her trying to convince myself with my own words.
Mel simply nodded.
We both sat in silence as I checked what was happening online and it was bad.
The crazy people seemed to be increasing in numbers drastically.
I let out a heavy sigh and dropped my phone. Seeing all those videos online only made me more anxious than I already was.
~~~
I woke up from the sound of someone knocking countlessly on the car window.
Hm didn't even realize I had fallen asleep.
I looked around panicking a bit and suddenly felt a slight relief when I saw Mel rubbing her eyes. She must have fallen asleep too.
I looked outside the window and it dawned to me.
It was getting dark and late and everywhere was still how it was.
I looked at the Man knocking on the car's window closely, I was observing if he was one of them or a normal Man.
Thankfully he looked sane to me.
I rolled down the window to hear him out.
"Kid you need to come on out of your car. We don't think help is coming. It's been hours we called the police and it's getting pretty dark now. Everyone is leaving on foot." He said to me.
"Mel let's get down." I said to her and she nodded. We both got down from the car.
"Most people have already left their cars behind. It's just a few of us remaining." The Man said to me.
"Why didn't the police come?" I asked him.
"Honestly kid, I have no idea, but if I'm to take a guess, with all these viral disease spread going on, they don't wanna risk their own asses for us." He replied.
"What are we supposed to do now? How are we supposed to get home?" I asked him.
"Walk it out I guess. Luckily once we're out from this area, we'll see some moving bus or taxi around." He said to me and I nodded.
"Okay. We can walk. Right Mel?" I asked my sister and she nodded.
She looked so scared.
"Okay let's join the others that are walking down too. We don't want to leave anyone behind." He said to me and Mel.
We quickly took our bags that was inside the car, and my phone too.
My phone battery was getting low already so I didn't use it much.
I dailed our Mom again but it still went right straight to voicemail.
Mel and I followed the rest of the people that gathered.
~~~~
After walking a distance, we hardly saw anyone on the streets.
Where is everyone?
People don't usually sleep this early.
And then suddenly we started hearing some ramblings of people coming from a certain direction.
"Diana, what is that sound?" Mel asked me.
"I don't know but it doesn't sound good." I said to her and held her hand. "No matter what happens, don't let go of my hand, got it?" I said to her and she nodded.
Suddenly there they were, Crowds of people running towards our direction.
Everyone panicked and scattered while running for their lives.
"Come on!" The Man from earlier said to us and we followed him, so did a few other people.
We ran inside a bookstore that was nearby and thankfully not locked.
Everyone hid inside and waited for the deranged ones to pass by.
We need to get home where it's safe.
I hugged my sister tightly as we waited while hiding.
What is happening?
