"Adam!"

In the rest facilities of a military base, a man with brown hair could be seen comfortably lying on a bed, his eyes focused on the screen of his cellphone, which was glowing with something that had completely captured his attention.

"Adam!"

A female voice came from the phone, completely overshadowing the call the man could hear but unconsciously ignored as he continued watching whatever was holding his focus.

"Adam!"

Bam!

That was until, after a few seconds, something hit the top of his head, snapping him out of his focus as he looked down to see a book on the floor.

"Ouch, that hurt." He rubbed his head, his eyes moving to his feet to see a man standing in front of his bed. "What was that for, Robert?"

"I've been calling you several times, you idiot." Robert huffed in frustration at the man's indignation. He was the one who should be upset! "What the hell are you watching that has you so focused?!"

Adam, still rubbing his head in irritation, sighed in discontent as he sat up on the bed. "It's an anime from a few years ago, that idiot Isaac recommended it since I have to stay in bed for several weeks...

By the way, how do you manage to attack a man who's injured?!"

"Stop with the drama, you've dealt with much worse." Robert rolled his eyes at his companion's act. "Isaac may be an idiot, but he gives good recommendations, like when he recommended that giant titans anime."

"To a layman, even Naruto can seem good." Adam shook his head.

But Robert didn't understand his words, his face filled with confusion. "What do you mean? But Naruto is good!"

"Alright, alright. Whatever you say, man."

Adam just shrugged, preferring not to get too deep into this discussion. The last time he did, things didn't end well... for the other side.

Picking up his phone, he tossed it to the end of the bed, with Robert raising an eyebrow curiously as he picked it up.

"Huh?"

He was quite surprised when a pair of fully exposed breasts popped into his face, the frame of the scene pulling back to reveal a beautiful blonde girl with an innocent face crucified on a cross, her gaze losing its shine as a greenish orb seemed to leave her body.

"It's called DXD, and it takes place in a world where demons, angels, and that kind of thing exist." Adam stood up while talking, his teeth clenching as he pressed his abdomen. "And like other stories that deal with this stuff, they follow the cliché where demons are apparently the good guys.

But I'm giving it a chance, since Isaac said something like it's 'the greatest mid-character development at the peak of world-building.'…"

Robert nodded, his eyes following the scene for a few more seconds before putting the phone aside. "Like that animated series we watched a few months ago? Has- Hazba- Hazbi-."

"Damn, don't even try to remember the name. The only thing worth remembering about that is the Adam." He quickly stopped Robert from continuing, a bit of disgust on his face.

"Right, right." Robert shrugged. He knew the only thing Adam liked about the show was the angel Adam, but Robert suspected it was mostly because they had the same name…

And also because the angel wanted to kill the main characters, something even Robert had wanted to do.

"Anyway, why are you here? I don't believe it's just to disturb me during my rest."

Adam walked past his companion and stopped in front of a large mirror.

His body was well-sculpted, and he stood a respectable 180 cm tall. His face was handsome, a small scar on his cheek only enhancing his charm.

But he hadn't moved to the mirror to admire his own beauty; instead, he lifted his shirt to see his body completely covered in bandages, with a few small bloodstains in the injured areas.

'I must have supernatural luck...' He thought with a nervous smile.

After a dangerous mission to eliminate a target, he had been shot 4 times with a high-precision rifle, all the bullets hitting his body, completely avoiding vital areas—something unprecedented, last seen only in reports from the Afghanistan war.

'I must have used up all the remaining luck in my life for that.' He sighed but immediately regretted it when a shock of pain hit him. 'Shit, it still hurts like hell.'

He had been resting for about a week and a half. His situation was so miraculous that the bullets passed through his body, and he didn't need much more than to close the wounds and spend a few days under observation.

Since his condition was stable, he had been cleared to spend the rest of his days resting wherever he wanted, as long as he took his medication.

And since he had nowhere better to go, he decided to stay in the barracks.

"Ah, right!" Robert, noticing his lack of focus, quickly shifted his relaxed tone. "The commander wants your opinion for a future mission. He thought since you're not doing anything, you could be of use and share your thoughts."

"..."

That old decrepit man… I should have put laxatives in his water when I had the chance. Adam pinched the bridge of his nose, rethinking his life choices that led him to become a soldier.

"Alright, let's go." He sighed in defeat, and grabbing his jacket, he put it on before heading out of the dorm.

Robert nodded and quickly followed him.

"You should speak more politely, I'm still a lieutenant, you know." As the two walked side by side, Adam flashed a confident smile.

But Robert just shrugged. "I'm also a lieutenant, idiot."

"But I've been promoted for over a year! The younger respects the older!"

"Keep dreaming."

Adam didn't take offense. "Well, what are the details of the mission?"

"The usual, terrorist groups planning an attack, but this time, there's a real danger it could be something on a large scale."

"Nuclear power?" Adam immediately furrowed his brow.

"I don't think it's anything that dangerous, probably just missiles."

"Right, the usual then." He nodded, a sigh escaping his lips. "Fortunately, I'll be out of the field for a while."

"Don't get used to it."

"You think I want to get shot again?"

"I don't think so... You're not a narcissist, are you...?"

Adam's face changed to one of disgust, and Robert laughed at it.

After walking for a few minutes, and Adam stopping a few times to greet some companions, they finally reached the planning room.

"The commander should be waiting, let's go."

"Alright, alright."

Adam waved his hand as Robert continued, but when he was about to follow him, his attention was drawn to the ground when a small gleam caught his eye.

A coin, a beautiful, strangely looking coin, very well preserved.

What is this? A foreign coin? His gaze lit up as he bent down slowly to avoid the pain in his body and picked up the coin, analyzing it. It looks Japanese...

He noticed the number 100 stamped on it, with small Japanese characters engraved in the metal.

Whistle.

I must really be on a lucky streak. He smiled as he continued examining the coin with a curious look. But what's this coin doing here? I don't remember anyone traveling to Japan recently.

Whistle.

He rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful, but when he couldn't understand why the coin was on the floor, he just shrugged and put it in his pocket. Well, if anyone asks for it, I'll return it.

Whistle.

Adam frowned when the annoying whistling sound only got louder, and carefully standing up, he turned around with an irritated look. Who's doing that?

He asked, but when he saw no one near him, his eyes narrowed suspiciously.

Whistle.

But when this inexplicable noise didn't stop, realization seemed to hit Adam, his face filling with dread, his focus slowly turning upward as the sound grew more apparent.

"..."

But as soon as he found the source of the sound, his previously excited smile vanished completely, and his expression turned dark.

Yeah, it looks like finding this coin was my last bit of luck... What the hell.

Boom!

When the explosion followed, Adam didn't even have time to reconsider his life, because in the next instant...

His body was gone.

.

Adam blinked as these memories flooded his mind, his eyes turning to the mirror to see those two unknown blue orbs, before he stumbled backward with unsteady steps.

What place is this? Who is this guy?

Sweat poured down his face, and just as he was about to turn to try to escape this place, a bolt of pain struck his head with such force that he couldn't stop himself from being pulled to the floor, his hands pressing against the sides of his skull.

What is this? Why does it hurt so much?!

He felt the urge to vomit as a multitude of images flooded his mind, overwhelming him so much that he could only grab his head in a desperate attempt to relieve the pain.

Eden, Eve, Abel, War, pain, fear, failure, achievement, victory, courage...

The images refused to cease, continuously filling his mind with memories spanning thousands of years, his brain struggling to handle them.

Memories of a beautiful garden, of a God who abandoned him, of betrayal from his first love, of the death of his son, of the hatred he felt, of the fear he had, of the hope... he had nurtured for so many years.

Only to have them crushed when nothing got better, even after ten thousand years.

But he also saw memories of a peaceful life, growing up in a good home, watching his mother succumb to cancer, joining the army to make his father proud, facing dangerous missions, rising through the ranks, and establishing himself as a good officer.

These two images, from completely different lives, despite the massive gap between them, Adam could see them simultaneously, both memories filling his mind.

It pushed him to the brink, and after several minutes of firmly resisting the indescribable pain, he could no longer endure it. His vision blurred as his face collided with the ground.

Who am I? Who should I be? Why is it so hard to answer this?!

His nails scraped the ground as he tried to regain his composure.

So frustrating! Who am I? Who am I? Who am I? Who am I?

His teeth clenched, and his hand formed a fist, pressed so tightly that it stained the ground beneath him with blood that dripped continuously.

These confusing and painful memories pushed further into his mind, and with his crisis only worsening his situation, he struggled to stay composed.

He might not understand, but he could feel clearly. There was a battle happening inside his mind.

Who was he?

Adam, the good soldier? The one who had lived his whole life in a peaceful city, eventually becoming a respected army officer.

Or Adam, the first man? The one destined to guide humanity, but who had spent millennia in an insatiable quest for revenge, losing himself along the way.

He couldn't say… His mind was fragmented, and the wave of information entering his brain didn't help at all.

He felt on the verge of breaking.

God, wife, war, love, promotion, loss, defeat, pain. He felt all of this, from both lives, in a way that kept him from discerning what belonged to each one.

It repeated endlessly, and his mind became increasingly fragmented.

!

But just as he felt his strength waning, a final memory came to his mind like a saving light, its gentle touch relieving his pain as it allowed him to slowly open his eyes and contemplate the feeling he had lost on both sides.

Hope.

The hope to see his mother again, the hope to one day see his son safe again, the hope that his wife would go to a better place, the hope that things would get better over time...

Moments so forgettable amidst the infinity of memories, but somehow, in this moment of despair, they found their way to bring him comfort and guide him as they once did.

Who am I?

He asked himself once more, the fragments of his mind piecing together again as he slowly rose from the floor, a soft glow enveloping his body as though it were protectively embracing him.

Adam, the first human?

Adam, the hopeful soldier?

No... He could no longer consider himself either of them. With the essence of these two beings now harmoniously residing in his body, he was something new.

He was...

I am Adam.

The hopeful father of humanity.
