Freed was insane. Although he believed he was just someone who knew how to have fun, it was undeniable how disturbed his mind was. Even the fallen angels acted cautiously around him due to how chaotic he seemed.

His deranged personality distorted his actions, and most importantly, his way of thinking. Normally, a regular human would fear beings like fallen angels, but Freed was different. To him, fallen angels were nothing more than a means to satisfy his desires.

By working for them, he could indulge his urges without needing to hold back too much… He never feared them because he was confident he could escape whenever he wanted.

So, imagine his surprise—someone who couldn't even be intimidated by a fallen angel—when he was confronted by the intense gaze of this blond-haired man.

His body, accustomed to the thrill of battle, moved before his mind could react, as if trying to protect him at all costs from certain death.

The blue eyes of this man emitted something Freed had never witnessed before. It felt as if his soul was being directly scrutinized, his secrets unraveled, and his abilities dismantled like a puzzle. He couldn't explain it, and for the first time in a long while…

He genuinely felt compelled to retreat—not strategically, or because he knew his opponent's abilities, no, none of that… His body simply wanted to flee.

But…

Like an antelope crossing paths with a hungry lion, or a deer caught in the headlights of a car, he knew what he needed to do, yet… his body refused to respond.

Even with his sword and pistol in hand, his body, driven solely by instincts faster than his reasoning, remained frozen in place as this imposing blond man continued to stare at him with those blue eyes that seemed to study him like an open book.

This was…

"...Exciting!" Freed licked his lips.

This feeling, this… "fear." Freed, who had completely forgotten the sensation, grew increasingly excited at the idea of experiencing it even more.

As a maniac for slaughter and battles, how could he not? Just standing in front of this unknown man was stimulating, so what would happen if they fought? Freed trembled at the thought.

"That's it, I can't take it anymore!" Punching his legs, Freed finally managed to break free from his "frozen" state, his crazed eyes locking onto the intimidating blue ones. "Hey, pretty boy! You better not just be a pretty face, because I want to have some fun!"

Adam, who received Freed's words with little reaction, couldn't help but find the attitude strange. He already knew him from his memories of the show, but seeing the madness in his eyes… This guy was definitely beyond saving.

Eyes of someone who had been lost for a long time—Adam knew them well.

"Asia, step back." Ordering without turning to look at her, he listened carefully to the footsteps behind him until he was sure she had moved far enough away.

Adam didn't need to analyze Freed for long to realize that the priest wasn't just anyone. The way his body balanced, the firm grip on the weapons in his hands—he seemed like a madman, but he had a solid foundation.

Moreover, he had been able to hold his own against a trained devil like Kiba, so Adam knew Freed was a dangerous opponent.

And then, there was this…

Adam's face twisted. The more he looked at Freed, the more he felt like… something was wrong with him, physically.

As the father of humanity, identifying his descendants came naturally to Adam, but the more he looked at the priest, the more he felt that Freed's existence was abnormal, wrong…

Unnatural.

Just as it irritated him that humans were being turned into demons, something about Freed's existence irritated him.

Adam didn't know why, and frankly, he didn't care much. His descendant or not, Freed had already strayed too far… Besides, based on what he would have done to Asia in the future, Adam felt it wouldn't be unjust to eliminate him.

Although, if he did that, no one would deliver his message…

What a dilemma.

!

"Think fast!"

Taking a step to the side, Adam's eyes widened in surprise as Freed closed the distance between them in an instant, a bluish sword of light in hand.

"Take this!"

With a mad cry, Freed thrust toward Adam's stomach, who raised an eyebrow at the movement, unsurprised when he sidestepped the attack and firmly grabbed the priest's wrist.

"Huh?-"

Bam! Bam! Bam!

And Freed, confused by how easily Adam avoided the attack, closed his eyes as three blows landed on his face with terrifying force and speed, his consciousness leaving him for a moment before he quickly recomposed himself and desperately backed away.

But as soon as his eyes opened, Freed was surprised once again when he found himself staring into Adam's face, the pistol of light in his hand abruptly grabbed, a punch to his face forcing him to let go before he retreated again, this time with the sword of light raised in defense.

"You should have shot." Adam, who held the pistol with interest before tossing it aside, suggested in a disinterested tone, eliciting an angry grunt from Freed.

Even rusty, Adam's skills were far from ordinary. With thousands of years of experience in constant battles, his proficiency with most weapons couldn't get much higher, while his hand-to-hand skills, well…

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say Adam was the precursor to most martial arts.

He hadn't survived this long fighting for nothing. Without talent for magic, and without room to further enhance his body, he had to rely entirely on his combat skills.

When it came to pure combat, few could match the father of humanity.

"What the hell." Freed, licking the blood dripping from his broken nose, smirked disdainfully. "Looks like I'm making a fool of myself here! This really wasn't part of the plan!"

His shoulders slumped melancholically, but his crazed eyes betrayed his attempt to act.

"But hey! I guess I just need to try harder! That's it! I just didn't try hard enough!"

Reaching into his coat, he pulled out another sword of light, igniting it without hesitation.

"Well, well! How about now?!" With two swords of light glowing in both hands, Freed smiled madly, the blood running down his nose and staining his face only making his appearance even more chaotic. "I'm twice as deadly now! So, don't die too quickly! HA!"

!

With a burst of speed, Freed charged again, so fast that he seemed to disappear from Asia's sight, who watched everything with her nerves on edge.

But the movement, no matter how fast, was nothing special to Adam's experienced eyes, so when the priest reached him, the father of humanity skillfully dodged a double slash aimed at his torso with a leap.

"Damn it-"

And with his foot landing on Freed's face, Adam kicked him with enough force to send him crashing to the ground, the dazed priest unable to react as he was abruptly face-planted.

"This is strange." Adam, sitting calmly on Freed's back, said monotonously. "My body is getting stronger too fast… 2000 years ago, this guy would've given me a hard time."

"Ugh! You…" Angrily, Freed twisted and tried to slash at Adam, but the man was quick to retreat. "Damn it! This is pissing me off!"

Furiously, he lunged at Adam and swung, only to receive a kick to the face as soon as he landed.

"Fuck!"

Bam!

"Shit!"

Bam!

"Son of a-"

Bam!

"Wait-"

Bam!

"Enough!"

Bam!

"I surrender!"

Bam!

"DAMN IT!"

Bam!

Staggering back after receiving another punch, a bloodied and bruised Freed struggled to see with one eye, the other swollen shut.

"Damn it, damn it…" He cursed between gasps. At this point, he didn't need to keep fighting to know he stood no chance of winning. "This has stopped being fun!"

Throughout the entire confrontation, he hadn't come close to hitting Adam. Freed might be crazy, but he wasn't an idiot.

The only reason he had kept fighting was that Adam seemed uninterested in wielding a weapon, and that gave him hope he could win. Freed felt that if it weren't for that, he'd definitely be dead.

"Already giving up?" Adam, who seemed quite bored with the fight at this point, asked with a yawn. "If that's the case, then I guess we're done here."

Freed's one functional eye widened, his grip on his swords tightening as he took a step back.

"..."

Until now, Adam hadn't wanted to eliminate Freed for one reason: punishment.

He wanted to punish the priest for a while, but seeing that he seemed to have lost the will to fight, Adam felt he had done a good job.

So, having caused enough pain, he would finish what he started. After thinking for a bit while continuing to beat Freed, he concluded that not sending a message to the fallen angels was the best course of action, as it would keep them completely unaware if Adam decided to attack them stealthily.

With no need to keep Freed alive, Adam then decided he would eliminate him once and for all. Having a trained lunatic from the church killing innocent people out there didn't sound pleasant… Besides, Freed's existence continued to irritate him.

"As for the earlier message…" With his blue eyes landing on Freed, the priest felt as if those blue orbs weighed heavily on his body, sweat accumulating on his forehead as the accumulated injuries caused his hands to tremble. "Let me deliver it myself."

Taking a step toward the mad priest, Adam raised an eyebrow when he saw him retreat 10 meters in an instant.

"What? And give up my job as a messenger? I'm good! You can have the girl!" Freed said quickly, the light from the swords in his hands disappearing as he stashed them in his coat. "Oh, and one last thing!"

Pulling something from his coat, he gave Adam one last irritated look. "Screw you!"

Flash!

And with a burst of light as Freed threw something to the ground, Adam instinctively shielded his eyes, blinking for a moment before realizing the priest had disappeared.

"Oh…" Adam seemed surprised. He felt he should've expected that. "Well, the dilemma's resolved."

With a disappointed sigh escaping, he turned to see Asia, noticing the girl staring at him with fascinated eyes.

"Asia!"

Calling her seemed to snap her out of her stupor, Adam smiling brightly.

"Let's go home."

This lit up the girl's face, the tears gathered at the corners of her eyes finally streaming down her cheeks as she clasped her hands in gratitude.

Adam even thought he saw a halo of light forming behind her head…

Well, anyway, just seeing her grateful smile made him realize his actions were worth it.

He just hoped he could keep her safe.
