Chapter 31: Mission Complete, The Power of Cheats

Chapter 31: Mission Complete, The Power of Cheats

"Go, Poké Ball!"

Ron threw out his first Pokémon, and a Dewgong appeared on the battlefield.

The examiner, upon seeing the matchup, sucked in a deep breath.

"Did I just pull the worst possible match?"

The examiner's Pokémon was Dragonite.

Without hesitation, Ron scanned Dragonite with his Pokédex, registering its data.

At the same time, the system's voice echoed in his mind:

Ding!

Congratulations, Host, for completing the side mission: "Pokémon Collection."

Reward: 10,000 Diamonds, a Mega Evolution Stone set for Tyranitar, and two cheat functions unlocked. Please check your inventory.

---

Ron grinned ear to ear.

He didn't expect to run into a Dragonite at this certification exam.

Talk about luck!

One simple battle, and he earned 10,000 diamonds.

Adding his previous balance, his total diamonds exceeded 20,000.

Though he didn't own a Tyranitar yet, he could catch one in Johto.

But the real prizes were the two cheat function unlocks.

After careful thought, he activated:

1. EXP Gain ×4

2. Max HP EVs

Then, considering the upcoming battle, he spent 10,000 Reputation Points to unlock Enhanced Vision Mode.

---

EXP Gain ×4 was worth 30,000 Reputation Points, while Max HP EVs cost 50,000.

Both were crucial upgrades.

Why?

Because most of his Pokémon were glass cannons—high attack but low durability.

By maxing out HP EVs, he covered this weakness, allowing his Pokémon to tank more hits.

If he eventually maxed out all EV categories and reset effort values with diamonds, his Pokémon would rival Legendaries in raw stats.

The only obstacle?

The astronomical cost of Reputation Points.

Ron sighed. "I need to grind harder."

---

As for Enhanced Vision Mode, it would truly shine in battle.

A Dewgong vs. Dragonite matchup?

Ron had the advantage.

"Dewgong, Hail!"

Dewgong summoned hail, sending icy flakes mixed with sleet pelting Dragonite.

It took constant chip damage.

---

But Ron also noticed something interesting:

These Pokémon lacked true battle instincts.

They only acted on commands—completely dependent on their trainers.

"Dragonite, Thunderbolt!"

The examiner held nothing back, launching a powerful Electric-type move.

---

At this moment, Ron felt time slow down.

With Enhanced Vision Mode, he could analyze the battlefield in 360 degrees.

He smirked.

"Damn, this is insane. Totally worth 10,000 Reputation Points."

"Dewgong, step back two paces! Then use Surf!"

---

Ron could now predict Thunderbolt's attack trajectory.

Dewgong dodged smoothly, then summoned a giant wave crashing over Dragonite.

---

Dragonite tanked the hit, but Water-type attacks weren't very effective.

"Covering the battlefield with water? That's a mistake. Points will be deducted."

The examiner smirked.

"Dragonite, Thunder!"

---

Ron grinned.

"Not a mistake—checkmate. Dewgong, tank Thunder, then Absolute Zero!"

---

"WHAT?!"

The examiner's face changed instantly.

---

Dragonite's Thunder struck the water—electricity spread across the field, electrocuting Dewgong.

But Dewgong had been trained for endurance—it survived with bulk to spare.

Then, a bone-chilling frost filled the air.

Water droplets, snowflakes, and residual hail formed an inescapable web.

Absolute Zero—One-Hit KO!

---

Dragonite froze solid.

The examiner sighed, returning his Dragonite.

---

"That was… brilliant."

He nodded approvingly.

"Using water and snowflakes to trap Dragonite, then guaranteeing a hit with Absolute Zero—impressive strategy."

"Let's move on to Round Two."

---

Ron smiled and returned Dewgong, sending out his next Pokémon.

A Lapras appeared.

The examiner sent out Hitmonlee.

---

Fighting vs. Ice?

Lapras was at a disadvantage.

However, just like Dewgong, Lapras was a tank—it could take a beating.

---

"Hitmonlee, Jump Kick!"

The examiner went on the offensive.

Ron shook his head.

"The battlefield is still covered in ice. Don't underestimate Lapras's speed boost on ice.

Lapras, dodge right! Then use Body Slam!"

---

Hitmonlee leaped into the air, aiming a powerful kick at Lapras.

But on the icy field, Lapras glided effortlessly, dodging at the last moment.

Then, it launched forward, slamming into Hitmonlee and dragging it across the ice.

---

"Close Combat! Send it flying!"

Hitmonlee broke free, unleashing a rapid barrage of powerful kicks and punches.

Lapras took massive damage.

---

"Lapras, Ice Beam!"

"Mind Reader! Then High Jump Kick!"

---

Lapras's Ice Beam struck directly, but Hitmonlee endured.

It then locked on with Mind Reader, ensuring its next move would land.

---

Ron frowned.

With Hitmonlee's High Jump Kick, Lapras wouldn't survive another hit.

It was a gamble, but—

"Lapras, Protect! If it fails, use Absolute Zero!"

---

As Lapras charged cold energy, Hitmonlee landed a direct hit, sending Lapras flying.

Lapras fainted.

---

Ron sighed but smiled.

"You did great, Lapras."

Returning it, he sent out his third Pokémon—Chansey.

---

The examiner sent out Hitmonchan.

Ron grinned.

"Time to annoy the hell out of him."

---

Chansey was a nightmare in battles.

"Hitmonchan, Mach Punch!"

Ron smirked.

"Chansey, Minimize."

---

Chansey shrunk to half its size, dodging Mach Punch.

"Keep shrinking! Then use Egg Bomb!"

---

The tiny Chansey hurled energy-infused eggs, but Hitmonchan dodged.

"Bullet Punch!"

Hitmonchan rushed in, fists flying.

Ron yawned.

"Soft-Boiled. Then Egg Bomb again."

---

Chansey healed itself back to full HP, then kept spamming Egg Bombs.

The examiner's expression twisted.

---

"If you can't KO Chansey immediately, it heals to full HP and outlasts you."

With massive HP and Special Defense, Chansey was practically unkillable.

---

In the end, after a long, frustrating battle, Chansey outlasted Hitmonchan.

The examiner sighed in exhaustion.

"Next time, I'm banning Chansey."

---

Ron and Lillie both passed the exam, receiving their badges.

Though they could now enter the Indigo League, Ron decided to collect all eight badges first.

Lillie agreed—after all, she didn't want their journey to end so soon.
