Chapter 59: Return to Pallet Town, Mewtwo's Growth
A few days later, Ron took an Aether Foundation private jet back to Pallet Town. His breeding ranch had gained some fame, and the League had thoughtfully built an airport and a dock to welcome people from other regions.
After getting off the plane, a ten-minute walk brought him back to his estate, where he was greeted by his main Pokémon team. Nidoking and Nidoqueen were the first to charge up to him, proudly presenting two Pokémon eggs like trophies. Seeing Nidoking's excited face and Nidoqueen's blushing expression, Ron felt a massive emotional blow: I'm still just a kid! Why do I have to deal with this?!
These two eggs were definitely not something he could give away casually—only to someone close to him. Offspring of two top-tier Pokémon—no doubt they'd also be top-tier themselves. Charizard burst out of its Poké Ball, curiously examining the two eggs in Ron's arms, clearly a bit envious.
(Ron: ...I'm definitely getting Charizard a new Poké Ball—one it can't burst out of!)
Ron rolled his eyes at Charizard. That guy had been fast too—he hadn't been with Salazzle for long and already had an egg. Ron had given the egg directly to Lillie to raise.
After the Quartz League tournament, Lillie had decided her path. She told Ron that she didn't think she was suited to be a trainer, but she loved Pokémon and wanted to become a breeder instead. After all, despite the size of Ron's ranch, most of it relied on him catching Pokémon and letting them roam free—it wasn't scientifically managed.
So, Lillie planned to become a breeder and help Ron in the future. To give her some practice, Ron had no hesitation in handing over the egg from Charizard and Salazzle.
He entrusted the Pokémon eggs to two Blissey to care for and then checked on the other Pokémon. They were all healthy and well-built, clearly training on their own even without Ron's supervision. Only Bellossom wasn't interested in fighting—it had become something like Ash's Bulbasaur, managing the ranch instead. With its strength, there was no Pokémon in the ranch that could beat it. It lived each day cheerfully and comfortably.
Ron respected Bellossom's wishes and didn't force it to battle, allowing it to live freely.
But he noticed that Mewtwo wasn't around. After asking Aerodactyl, he learned that Mewtwo had rarely returned recently. But every time it came back, its strength had leapt by a large margin—it could now overpower all of Ron's other Pokémon. None could last even a single move against it.
"Dad." A wave of telepathy reached him.
While Ron was still thinking about Mewtwo, it suddenly appeared before him with a flash. It gave him a strong hug, and Ron could sense an aura from it—one that resembled the presence of the old legendary Pokémon. Combined with Aerodactyl's words, Ron already had an answer in his heart.
He brought the Pokémon back to his second-floor villa, pulled Mewtwo into a room, and said to the slightly uneasy Mewtwo, "You've been training with another Mewtwo, haven't you?"
"Yes, Dad," Mewtwo responded telepathically. "That elder Mewtwo carries a lot of darkness in its heart. I want to help it slowly find peace, so it doesn't make a terrible mistake."
Listening to Mewtwo's words, Ron felt like a father watching his child grow up. He patted Mewtwo's head as it sat cross-legged on the floor. "You've grown up. You have your own thoughts now. I won't blame you for anything. Even if you want to leave, I won't stop you. Just remember—even though you're a legendary Pokémon, compared to the older ones, you're still a rookie. Be careful."
"I understand, Dad," Mewtwo said. "The elder Mewtwo hasn't done anything extreme. On the contrary, it's been training me—teaching me how to sense the power of origin."
"The power of origin?!" Ron was shocked. "Can you tell me more about it?"
Mewtwo nodded and began explaining in detail, much to Ron's excitement. After listening for a while, Ron fell deep into thought. According to Mewtwo, understanding the power of origin was like those concepts in xianxia novels—sensing the laws within one's own attribute.
For example, Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire is a flame of rebirth within the Fire element. Even if other Pokémon used Sacred Fire, without that hint of rebirth, they wouldn't be able to create the Three Legendary Beasts. Similarly, Cresselia's sweet dreams, Darkrai's nightmares, and Celebi's time travel—all were types of origin laws.
As for Mewtwo, its law was Destruction—the immense destructive power of Psychic-types. That's why, in the anime, newly created Mewtwo had strength rivaling Tier 1 legendaries.
But comprehending one's origin law was extremely elusive. Only Pokémon of the same species could pass it on through word of mouth. Other Pokémon had an even harder time learning it.
Ding. Origin Power System activated. Super Special Side Quest: Cultivate one Legendary Pokémon and defeat and capture another within three years.
Rewards: 100 million diamonds, 100 million popularity points, 100 million gold, 5 Master Balls, 5 Mega Evolution sets (customizable), Origin Beast Breeder unlocked.
Failure Penalty: Deduct 100 million diamonds, 100 million popularity points, 100 million gold. Mall and lottery systems will be sealed.
"Whoa… There's actually a penalty. This one's mandatory," Ron gasped. "But the reward is insane. I have to complete it!"
Sure, that was easier said than done. But judging from how the system worked, it never issued impossible tasks. Back when he had no diamonds, it often gave out welfare tasks—it was a pretty generous system. The three-year deadline indicated that even the system didn't expect Ron to complete it quickly.
"Rules, huh…" Ron muttered to himself. When it came to teaching origin laws, he really had no way—his Pokémon would have to understand them on their own.
After heading outside, he explained everything to his Pokémon and told them to try sensing it themselves. Charizard immediately grabbed Mewtwo to challenge it. The rest looked confused, except Aerodactyl, who seemed to understand something. Being ancient, it may have had a better connection to origin power.
Cosmog, meanwhile, wandered around aimlessly, completely carefree, curious about its new surroundings.
After sending the Pokémon off, Ron got a call from Lorelei. He picked up and said, "Sis Lorelei, what's up?"
"Relax, it's not about making you an Elite Four anymore," Lorelei replied irritably. "The ones you recommended—Sabrina and Lt. Surge—have already been recruited. The Elite Four slots are full for now, so you're off the hook."
"Oh, that's good. So what's the call about?" Ron asked.
"I heard you're planning to challenge the Johto Silver Conference?" Lorelei asked seriously. "We need a favor—can you help investigate that dark organization the League took down? Their boss is still missing, but sources say he's somewhere in Johto. Keep an eye out during your journey."
"Got it," Ron replied.
After hanging up, Ron took a deep breath and thought: Pryce, huh… I hope I can get through to him. Otherwise, with his obsession, he might really hurt Celebi.
