Chapter 67 Celebi's Arrival
Not long after leaving Charizard Valley, Ron's phone rang. The deep voice spoke, "You win. The Celebi clan decided to entrust you with one Celebi. In return, you must solve the problem of that Mewtwo. Additionally, that Mewtwo must unconditionally assist the Pokémon League ten times."
"Two times at most," Ron replied without hesitation.
"Nine times."
"Two times."
"Eight times!"
"Two times."
"Seven times!!"
"Two times."
"Who bargains like you?!!" The voice roared angrily, "At least five times. Take it or leave it."
"Deal," Ron agreed. He merely wanted to test the League's bottom line. After all, convincing that stubborn Mewtwo was impossible for Ron himself, so he could only leave it to his own Mewtwo.
"When can you send Celebi to me?" Ron asked.
"When you reach the next city, call this number and go to the Pokémon Center. The Pokémon will be delivered through their transmission device," the deep voice said. "Also, go to the Ilex Forest afterward. Someone from the Celebi clan will meet you there. If you don't meet their requirements, they will take Celebi back."
Ron's face darkened, and he gritted his teeth, "Two times at most!"
"Beep beep..." The call disconnected, leaving Ron almost grinding his teeth in frustration. Older ginger was indeed spicier; older foxes were craftier. He thought he'd gained something, but in the end, he was still doing free labor for the other side.
They said it was a gift of a Legendary Pokémon, but it seemed they could just reclaim it at will. Ron learned his lesson; next time he dealt with the League, he wouldn't be so easily persuaded.
Glancing at the electronic map, the next city, if he remembered correctly, was famous for producing Sunflora. Shaking his head, Ron put away the map. Without Charizard now, and with Dragonite sent back, he'd have to walk slowly on his own.
Two days later, Ron arrived at the city famous for its Sunflora. He immediately rushed to the Pokémon Center and dialed the given number.
The phone rang twice before being abruptly disconnected. Then the Pokémon transmission device spat out a very ordinary Pokéball, which Nurse Joy picked up. Soon, the Pokémon Center's broadcast announced: "Ron from Pallet Town, Ron from Pallet Town. Please come to the front desk upon hearing this announcement; you have a Pokéball awaiting pickup. Ron from Pallet Town, please come to the front desk upon hearing this announcement; you have a Pokéball awaiting pickup."
Ron gripped his phone tightly, feeling the urge to hit someone. He'd initially thought of negotiating gently with the League, but now he decided he'd push them to tears next time.
He went to the front desk, received the Pokéball from Nurse Joy, placed it into his backpack, and asked Nurse Joy for a room. He'd stay at the Pokémon Center today.
After returning to his room and locking the door, Ron hadn't even touched the Pokéball when it suddenly shattered, revealing Celebi in front of him.
Celebi was a green, fairy-like creature. It had round, toeless feet and hands with three fingers each. Its head was round, curving upward to a point. Celebi had pale blue eyes surrounded by thick black rings, with green antennae ending in blue tips.
Celebi circled playfully in the air, humming a tune, then landed gently on Ron's right shoulder. Ron checked Celebi's data.
Pokémon: Celebi (Legendary Pokémon)
Level: 8
Gender: None
Height: 20cm
Weight: 2.0kg
Ability: Natural Cure
Moves: Leech Seed, Confusion, Recover, Heal Bell…
It truly was from a Legendary clan. Even at only level 8, it had already learned most of its moves. Clearly, this little one had just recently been born, similar to Mewtwo back then.
Unlike Mewtwo, however, Celebi was recognized by the system as a true Legendary Pokémon, having comprehended the real power of origin, while Mewtwo was still learning alongside another Mewtwo.
"Hello, little one." Ron reached out his finger and gently tapped Celebi's small head. He had to admit, Celebi's body was incredibly soft, and he could clearly sense an endless natural vitality from its tiny body.
Celebi disdainfully pushed away Ron's finger and chirped softly. Ron nodded and said, "I'll be your trainer from now on. Also, I can understand Pokémon language, so there will be no communication barriers between us."
Celebi nodded and suddenly noticed something. It flew over to Ron's backpack, waved its small hand, opened the zipper, and Cosmog popped out. The two little fellows instantly started playing together happily.
This was Ron's ambition! One who could traverse time and another who could traverse space; with both of them, he'd have complete control over time and space. However, this was just an ambition for now. The two little fellows hadn't grown yet, so any talk of controlling space and time was for the future.
"Come here, little one, into the ball. Let me enhance you a bit," Ron took out an Ultra Ball. "Please don't break this one; it's very expensive."
Curious, Celebi touched the Ultra Ball's button and was captured inside.
Then, Ron maxed out Celebi's effort values and spent some Diamonds to reset the points. When Celebi reappeared, it immediately felt noticeably stronger. This increase in strength wasn't an illusion but a comprehensive boost from within. Celebi chirped happily at Ron, expressing its gratitude.
"No need to thank me. This is standard for all my Pokémon. In the future, you'll see more benefits as my Pokémon," Ron waved dismissively.
Inwardly, Ron thought: No matter what, I'll spare no expense to ensure Celebi stays willingly.
Cosmog watched Celebi and Ron, suddenly interested in the Ultra Ball Ron was holding. However, since the Ultra Ball was in Ron's hand, Cosmog couldn't reach it. It suddenly remembered there was an even prettier Pokéball in the backpack. Laughing happily, it dove into the backpack, found that Pokéball, and pressed the button.
A flash of red light appeared, and Cosmog was captured inside the ball. Ron saw a red flash from his backpack and suddenly felt anxious.
He quickly opened his backpack, just in time to see the Master Ball shake slightly before coming to a stop. Ron didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He had tried so hard to prevent this. Originally, he'd intended to slowly build up his bond with Cosmog and then capture it with an Ultra Ball.
This way, he'd have saved the Master Ball. Perhaps, someday in the future, he might encounter another Legendary Pokémon he could catch. Now, it was too late. He certainly couldn't release Cosmog either. The system had warned him that a Master Ball could capture only one Legendary Pokémon; after releasing it, the Master Ball would lose its special power and function like a regular Pokéball.
What could he do now? He had no choice but to forgive it.
But Ron's headache only grew worse: Celebi saw the Master Ball and thought it looked much prettier than its own Pokéball, insisting on trading.
Ron patiently tried reasoning with Celebi, but Celebi simply replied: "Not listening, not listening, not listening!"
Finally, Ron had no choice but to promise Celebi that he'd switch it to a Master Ball right after the Silver Conference, finally calming the upset Celebi.
Ron wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, wondering to himself: Wasn't Celebi genderless? How come it behaved exactly like a feisty little girl?!
