Kaelith was already dressing for war when Seraphine stepped in front of him, her expression unyielding.
"I'm coming with you," she said.
Kaelith didn't look up. "No."
She clenched her fists. "I won't sit here and wait while the world burns around me."
He finally met her gaze, his expression dark. "It's not safe."
"It never is," she countered. "You can't shut me out of this."
Kaelith exhaled sharply. He knew she wouldn't back down. And a part of him—one he didn't want to acknowledge—didn't want her to.
"Stay close to me," he said at last.
Seraphine's lips curled into a smirk. "Wouldn't dream of doing otherwise."
